NEW ORLEANS - A Jefferson Parish teacher is still missing after her mother reported not being able to get in touch with her over the weekend.

She was last seen at Parlay's bar on Harrison Avenue in Lakeview.

26-year-old Terrilynn Monette moved here a year and a half ago to be a teacher. Now, a fun night out with a friend from college has ended with a desperate search to find her.

The search continues Tuesday in Lakeview for a missing teacher

NEW ORLEANS —The search for a missing Westbank elementary teacher continues. Terrilynn Monette, 26, hasn't been seen or heard from since early Saturday morning.

On Tuesday night, thanks to staff and teachers at Woodland West Elementary School in Harvey where Monette is a second-grade teacher, Monette's mother, sister and other family members flew into Armstrong Airport to join the expanded search efforts to find their loved one.

"We are here and we are not going anywhere until we find her," said Monette's older sister, Kandice Enclade.

Family members were up early Wednesday searching Monette's Robert E. Lee Boulevard apartment, City Park and the Lakeview area where the 26-year-old was last seen leaving Parlay's Dream Lounge, a neighborhood bar. But she nor her 2012 black two-door Honda Accord have been seen since then.

NEW ORLEANS —A large scale ground search for a missing elementary school teacher kicked off Thursday morning.

Friends, family and strangers of Terrilynn Monette, 26, met outside of Parlay's Bar around 7:30 a.m. -- the last known location of the second-grade teacher at Woodland West in Harvey.

Monette hasn't been seen or heard from since she reportedly left Parlay's early Saturday morning.

Search crews spanned out across Lakeview, City Park and the area around Monette's apartment complex on Robert E. Lee Boulevard searching for anything that might help with the investigation.

As the disappearance of teacher Terrilyn Monette nears its one-week mark, New Orleans police on Friday released a few updates on their investigation. Detectives have been deploying various search resources around the clock since the 26-year-old California native was reported missing, said officer Hilal Williams, a spokeswoman for the New Orleans Police Department.

NOPD detectives have identified and interviewed the man who was the last person seen with Monette around 4 a.m. last Saturday at Monette's car in the parking lot of Parlay's bar in the 800 block of Harrison Avenue in Lakeview, Williams said. Monette reportedly told acquaintances whom she had been drinking with at Parlay's that she planned to sleep in her car before driving home, because she had had a few drinks.

Monette's cell phone stopped working four hours before she disappeared, while she was at Parlay's, Williams said. The phone has not been turned on since, making it difficult for detectives to track her possible location.

LONG BEACH, Calif. — Family and friends held a prayer vigil in Long Beach on Sunday for a teacher who went missing in New Orleans.

Terrilynn Monette, 26, grew up in Long Beach and received her teaching degree from California State University, San Bernardino, and went on to participate in the "Teach NOLA" program, which sends teachers to New Orleans to teach children in impoverished areas.

Monette went missing on March 2 after visiting a bar with friends, according to reports from New Orleans. She was last seen sleeping in her car rather than driving home after drinking, authorities said.

The vigil was held at Wilson High School.

Meanwhile, officials with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office searched Bayou St. Johns for four hours in hopes of locating Monette's vehicle. Nothing was found.

NOPD: Still no suspects in teacher's disappearance as search continues

The search for missing school teacher Terrilyn Monette continued Monday, even as aerial and marine searches were halted due to inclement weather. More than a week after the 26-year-old California native disappeared after leaving a Lakeview bar police say they still have no suspects in the case.

A small group of concerned residents and members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, of which Monette is a member, began a search in eastern New Orleans on Monday morning in the hopes that traveling through some more remote areas might turn up clues that the ongoing investigation has not.

"We know the NOPD has been working around the clock looking for her, but we figure if we continue to help out the search it will only better our chances of finding her," said 62-year-old Terry Brown, who was part of the group that met outside of a Winn-Dixie in the 9700 block of Chef Menteur Highway on Monday at 11 a.m.

The New Orleans Police Department has announced that it will be joined by the search and recovery team Equusearch as early as Tuesday evening (March 12) to assist with the ongoing efforts to find missing schoolteacher Terrilyn Monette. Ten days into the disappearance of the 26-year-old California native, the Houston-based nonprofit is set to arrive no later than Wednesday morning, the organization's director, Tim Miller, told police.

Equusearch will help the NOPD in searching through the lagoons of City Park for Monette and her car. Police have been combing through the park and the vast green space between Parlay's bar, where Monette was last seen March 2, and her apartment, covering the most likely route for her to get home.

New Orleans, LA -- As the search enters day seven, the mother of Terrilynn Monnette starts to fear the worst.

"If anyone was in Parlay's at the time my daughter went missing, I beg of you, I plead of you please come forth and tell everything that you know," says Toni Enclade, Monnette's Mother.

It's been seven days, no phone calls, no signs, not a trace of the 26-year-old Monnette.

"This week has felt like an eternity it feels like it's been a lot longer than seven days," says Monnette's Principal, Amy Hoyle.

Police in New Orleans are searching for a young teacher who disappeared more than a week ago after a night of drinking to celebrate being nominated for an award.

Terrilynn Monnette, 26, was last seen in the wee hours of March 2, after spending the previous evening with friends at a bar in the city’s Lakeview section. Witnesses said she left with a male acquaintance around 4 a.m. on Saturday. She has not been seen since.

New Orleans, LA (NBC33) — Ten days have passed since a school teacher was last seen out for a night on the town with a friend from college. Now, her family, friends and students have turned to social media as a way to keep the search active.

Terrilynn Monette, 26, is classified as an endangered missing person. She was last seen at Parlay’s Bar in the 800 block of Harrison Avenue at roughly 3:30 a.m. Witnesses told police that she planned to sleep in her car because she had too much to drink and didn’t want to risk driving home. They also say they saw her talking to a man in the parking lot.

No one has seen her since.

Worry turned to fear when Monette did not show up to work on Monday morning. She teaches second-grade in Jefferson Parish, and was recently nominated as “teacher of the year.”

New Orleans police announced Friday on Facebook that they were going to search on horseback for a missing second-grade schoolteacher who vanished over the weekend.

Terrilynn Monette, 26, a 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year nominee, joined friends for drinks at a popular bar on Saturday, and hasn't been heard from since -- which is "uncharacteristic for her," according to police.

Students at Woodlawn West Elementary School have been expressing their grief by writing letters hoping for her return, according to HLN affiliate WDSU.

Much searching but no answers in disappearance of New Orleans teacher

(CNN) -- As hundreds of volunteers and police scoured parks and waterways in an area of New Orleans Tuesday, there were many questions but few answers about the disappearance 11 days ago of a 26-year-old teacher.

Terrilynn Monette had been out celebrating a recent nomination for a "Teacher of the Year" award in her district the night she vanished, her friends told CNN affiliate WWL

New Orleans police said Monette was last seen on March 2 at Parlay's, a bar in the Lakeview area of New Orleans.

One of the bartenders working that night had to "cut off" Monette, indicating the bartender felt she had too much to drink and that she should no longer be served, the nightclub's general manager, Anna Boudousque, said.

According to police, Monette told her acquaintances she was going to sleep in her car before driving home "due to having consumed alcoholic beverages."

She was seen talking to an unidentified man in the parking lot around 4 a.m. police said, adding that the man has been interviewed and is not now considered a suspect in the disappearance.

Since then, both Monette and her 2012 black Honda Accord have vanished.

Family and friends held a prayer vigil on Sunday for a former "Teacher of the Year" who grew up in the area and has been reported missing in New Orleans.

Terrilyn Monette was last seen March 2 at a bar in a neighborhood in New Orleans, where she recently moved to participate in a teaching program.

She was last seen sleeping in her late model Honda.

The vehicle also has been reported missing.

"We're all very heartbroken," said her brother, Brandon, during the vigil held at Long Beach Wilson High School.

Maree Reed, a friend was in shock.

"I can't believe it's happening," she said.

Equusearch has found 8 cars in Bayou St. John, but not Terrilyn Monette'

Equusearch, the Texas crew that New Orleans police have brought in to help search for missing teacher Terrilyn Monette, has found at least eight cars in Bayou St. John. But none of them is the teacher's 2012 black Acura, last seen on March 2, Equusearch founder and director Tim Miller said Thursday.

"Waterways are good dumping grounds when somebody wants to get rid of a car for insurance reasons," Miller said in trying to explain the fact that eight cars were found in the bayou.

The Equusearch crew, using 24-foot sonar boats that analyze sound waves to determine an underwater object's size and shape, plans to send divers to check out a ninth car. That car has relatively few barnacles on it, indicating it may have landed in the bayou fairly recently, Miller said.

CBS) NEW ORLEANS - Police say surveillance video shows Terrilynn Monette, a 26-year-old elementary school from Long Beach, Calif. who disappeared in New Orleans on March 2, was driving alone in her car when she left a bar around 5:15a.m. on the day she was last seen, CBS affiliate WWLTV reports.

The New Orleans Police Department has reviewed three red light cameras which reportedly show Monette leaving Parlay's Lounge, a bar in the Lakeview neighborhood of New Orleans, and heading towards City Park in her black 2012 Honda Accord. Officer Hilal Williams, a spokesperson for the NOPD, confirmed Monette was alone in her car.

It is unclear where Monette was headed after a certain point and her car has not been found, according to the station.

NEW ORLEANS -- Equipped with not one but two sonar units, Texas EquuSearch spent much of the day searching Bayou St. John hoping to take a closer look at some of the vehicles lying beneath the water’s surface.

“We know there are some cars out there, so we’re going to determine which ones are possibilities,” said Tim Miller of Texas EquuSearch. “And we also want to determine if they’re even worth trying to pull up.”

With the help of a crane, their boat and a special sonar brought in from Illinois were both lowered into the bayou.

The founder, Tim Miller, told WDSU after talking with the NOPD they decided the search for Terrilynn Monette would be suspended after areas covered by the Texas group yielded no results.

New Orleans police said Tuesday the case is still an active investigation and they continue to follow up leads pertaining to Monette's disappearance.

Monette went missing on March 2, after police say she left Parlay's Bar where she met an old college friend. According to the NOPD, there are no suspects or persons of interest in the case.

Terrilynn Monette Missing: La. teacher did not drink excessively on night of disappearance, cops say

CBS/WWLT) NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans Police Department said Friday that missing teacher Terrilynn Monette did not drink an excessive amount of alcohol and cameras did not show her being followed as she drove home the night of her disappearance.

According to CBS affiliate WWL, Monette and a friend went to two restaurants on March 1, before heading to Parlay's Dream Lounge in Lakeview around midnight where they met three other people. Police say they interviewed bar employees and patrons, all of whom said the missing teacher did not consume an excessive number of drinks.

Monette's phone reportedly stopped working just before 1 a.m., and police believe it may have run out of battery.

Around 3:30 a.m., Monette left the lounge and went to her car for 45 minutes with a man, WWL reports. "He said, at the time, that she was passed out in the driver's seat and appeared intoxicated. He thought it was best for her to 'sleep it off,'" police said.

NOPD: Terrilyn Monette Last Seen by Jogger

Though Equusearch suspended its aquatic search for Terrilynn Monette, the NOPD is continuing their "tireless" effort to track down the missing second grade teacher. Today, Officer Christopher Kalka offered new information about what Monette’s whereabouts on March 1-2 prior to her disappearance. He also confirmed that Monette was last seen leaving the parking lot of a bank near Parlay’s (870 Harrison Ave.) at 5:13am.

The last image of Monette was captured by a camera, which shows her alone in her car, turning left onto Marconi Dr. from Harrison Ave.

NOPD suspects that the last person to see Monette was a jogger who was on the street at the same time that she was driving away.

“If anyone knows who that jogger was, or you were jogging in City Park that morning, come forward,” Kalka said.

Kalka announced, for the first time, that in the early evening on March 1 Monette went to a bar on Frenchman St. with the same man who was seen later in her car outside of Parley’s.

SAN BERNARDINO -- Toni Enclade doesn't sleep much anymore.

"I try but I just can't sleep," said Enclade, a Long Beach resident whose daughter, Cal State San Bernardino graduate Terrilynn Monette, went missing March 2 in New Orleans.

"I need my daughter back - I need her back with me. Whoever has her, let her go," Enclade's tearful plea went out to the crowd that gathered Saturday in front of the university's Pfau Library.

"We have faith that she will be found and be all right," said Candice Enclade, Monette's 28-year-old sister, who also lives in Long Beach.

"We have to have faith. "

Monette's family members were among Cal State San Bernardino students, alumni, faculty, staff and local clergy attending a Saturday afternoon prayer vigil at the university, where Monette earned her bachelor of arts degree in liberal studies in 2010.

NOPD talks to jogger seen before Terrilyn Monette's disappearance

NOPD detectives have spoken with the jogger who they were seeking to interview Friday after learning the jogger had been near the last place missing teacher Terrilyn Monette was seen, at about the same time. On Friday, police appealed to citizens to help them find a person who was running along Marconi Drive around the time Monette is believed to have driven her car near City Park. The jogger is not a suspect in the case, police said.

Within hours of releasing the information, police received 17 tips about the jogger, said officer Hilal Williams, a Police Department spokesperson. Detectives spoke to thart jogger, as well as several other people who were running in City Park at the time, Williams said.

NEW ORLEANS-- The high-profile disappearance of Jefferson Parish school teacher Terrilynn Monette sent shock waves across the community.

Yet, despite hundreds of people searching across City Park and multiple searches through its lagoons by Texas Equusearch, there is still no trace of her nor her 2012 black Honda Accord, one month after they vanished.

"You hate to think of the possibilities. You just keep the spirit and keep working on the positive," said Terry Brown, who is helping to organize a charity golf tournament and auction, set for this weekend at the Belle Terre Country Club in LaPlace.

The fundraiser is trying to help increase the reward in the case, which now stands at $5,500, thanks in part to fellow teachers who have donated to the fund.

NEW ORLEANS —The search for Terrilynn Monette entered its second month this week. Her family is hoping to spark new life in the continued search for the missing second-grade teacher from Woodland West Elementary School in Harvey.

We are not going away. We are determined to figure out what happened to my daughter," said Toni Enclade, Monette's mother.

Enclade arrived in New Orleans early Friday morning from California, where the family lives.

"We want answers. Five weeks have gone by now and still no answers," Enclade said.

NEW ORLEANS -- State Rep. Austin Badon is now reaching out to the FBI to help in the search for missing Jefferson Parish teacher Terrilynn Monette.

Monette has been missing since Mar. 2 after leaving the Lakeview bar, Parlay's Dream Lounge.

Badon also says St. Charles and St. Bernard sheriff's offices are helping in the search for Monette.

New Orleans, La -On Monday morning, the search for missing Harvey teacher Terrilynn Monnette continues. But this time, new crews are coming in and using much more powerful, high-tech equipment to search local waterways.

For seven weeks, volunteers and local law enforcement agencies have been searching for 26-year-old Terrilynn Monnette. The school teacher left Parlay's bar in Lakeview in the early morning hours of March 2nd, and was never seen again.

State Representative Austin Badon has coordinated previous searches in Lake Pontchartrain with Wildlife and Fisheries agents. But on Monday, the Harbor Police will come in, at Badon's request, for a more in-depth look at the lake. They'll search from the Industrial Canal at the Seabrook Bridge all the way to the West End. Badon explains, "Wildlife and Fisheries went out about 30 feet, they're going to go out about 100 feet and scan the bottom. They have some really high tech equipment that could give some great images."

NEW ORLEANS -- State Representative Austin Badon said Monday a private salvage company will begin removing submerged vehicles from Bayou St. John in hopes of finding clues about Terrilynn Monette, a missing Jefferson Parish school teacher.

There are reportedly more than 20 submerged cars and trucks in the waterway along City Park.

(CBS/NOLA.com) NEW ORLEANS-- The search for missing Harvey school teacher Terrilyn Monette continued on Sunday after authorities were forced off Bayou St. John on Friday and Saturday due to thunderstorms, reported Nola.com.

While the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has drudged up 17 cars from the waterway, none of them are the black Honda Accord that belonged to Monette, said the website.

Also according to the site, Louisiana state representative Austin Badon, who has been leading the search, called for a nationwide effort to commence, stating that he thought the chance of Monette remaining in New Orleans was slim.

NEW ORLEANS (CNN) – The mother of a missing teacher from Long Beach, CA has returned to the New Orleans area to search for her. Terrilynn Monette has been missing since the morning of March 2nd.

But as Monica Hernandez reports, her family isn’t giving up hope of finding her.

Monette was last seen in the Lakeview area outside New Orleans. She had left a parking lot near a bar named Parlay’s.

NEW ORLEANS —The family of a missing teacher said they want to expand the search for Terrilynn Monette nationwide.

"I would like to see my baby's face flash on every TV screen across the United States," mother Toni Enclade said.

Enclade called for the expanded search Sunday outside the City of Love Church in the Carrollton area.

"It needs to be brought to everyone's attention not just here in Louisiana but all the other states," Enclade said.

NEW ORLEANS — Searchers have not given up hope that they will find missing Jefferson Parish school teacher Terrilynn Monette, who has been missing for nearly three months.

Crews spent another day on Bayou St. John pulling out submerged vehicles, none of which have matched Monette’s car. And Tuesday was another long day on the water and along the banks for the volunteer crew doing the work.

The crew pulling cars out of the bayou describe it as an underwater parking lot for cars that went missing over the years. One-by-one tow trucks removed vehicles while searching for Monette’s black two-door Honda Accord.

NEW ORLEANS -- The parents and other relatives of missing teacher Terrilynn Monette were back Friday night in New Orleans holding another prayer vigil and blasting the NOPD.

Three months after Monette vanished, her family flew in from California and gathered with friends and supporters at the spot where she was last seen -- at the intersection of Harrison and Marconi in City Park.

Just a couple days after an NOPD officer said superiors delayed his forensic investigation of Monette's computer, her family questioned why. Plus, Monette's mother called for a federal investigation of her daughter's disappearance.

“I beg the FBI to take over this case,” said Toni Enclade, Terrilynn’s mother. “I don’t know if my daughter's in New Orleans, Canada, Mexico.”

NEW ORLEANS – The car of missing Jefferson Parish schoolteacher Terrilynn Monette was pulled from a bayou near Harrison and Wisner Avenues Saturday around noon.

A body was found inside of the car in the driver's seat and Representative Austin Badon, who has been championing the search for Monette, said they are "100 percent sure" that the body inside is Monette, but that an autopsy by the coroner would be needed to confirm the fact.

"We're very upset right now," said Monette's father Terry.

"Unbelievable," said Demetria Isidore, a family friend. "We were out here and they searched these waters the first week. The guys from Texas searched the waters. We never thought it would end this way."

On Friday (June 7), 97 days after the disappearance of Terrilynn Monette, Slidell police officer Mark Michaud and state Rep. Austin Badon met at the lawmaker's home in eastern New Orleans, fired up a computer and tried to identify the various routes the West Bank elementary school teacher might have taken to get home the morning she vanished in the vicinity of City Park.

On the morning of Day 98, Michaud, the leader of the Slidell Police Department's dive team, went to Bayou St. John on his 17-foot boat during his free time. Scanning the waters with a portable sonar device, he found a submerged car close to a bridge at the corner of Harrison Avenue and Wisner Boulevard.

The black Honda Accord registered to missing teacher Terrilynn Monette was recovered from Bayou St. John Saturday afternoon.

Family members and State Rep. Austin Badon tell WGNO News Monette’s remains were found inside the vehicle.

“It was not the outcome that we had looked for, but we did find her,” Badon said.

It was news that drew hundreds of concerned citizens out from their respective homes.

“Everyone wants to know what happened,” supporter Denise Strauss said.

“This area had been searched,” Badon explained. “We searched it extensively, but her car was missed.”

“The family needs to know what happened to her the evening she disappeared,” Strauss said.

Even in the face of uncertainty, with many unanswered questions, the family says this weekend’s discovery is the beginning of closure.
