This is something! Good.

Looks like he has a fresh hair cut, maybe a hair weave? and some hair coloring added! Nothing, however, detracts from the ugliness of his face with all those boil like things. Yuck!

You crack me up Freckles. The Judge told him how fine he was looking today...eewwwww. I really wonder why she talks to him like that, its kinda creepy if ya ask me.

Actually, my nose is upturned over the judge's most liberal appearance.Ok. I got over the hair color she is sporting and frowned over the necklace but it is disrespectful how she is wearing the judicial robes as a "shawl" over her flimsy evening-wear sleeves....wow. I feel so old and jaded....

Jury selection continues today - no opening statements until Tuesday but a hearing is scheduled for 2:30 Friday regarding whether or not the defense can call Joseph Gentz as a witness - remember he had a plea deal where he was supposed to testify against Bob Bashara - but prosecution did not list him in their witness list they read on Wednesday. Defense team DID list Gentz as THEIR witness! Judge says they will hash that out Friday at 2:30...

A jury has been seated in the trial of Bob Bashara.

The 16-member jury is made up of 11 men and five women. Of those seated, 12 ultimately will deliberate and six will become alternates.

Apparently, there is a hearing at 2:30 p.m. Eastern time, this afternoon, to discuss if Joe Gentz is going to testify.  It sounds like he doesn't want to, especially if it's testifying for the defense.

wxyz.com and clickondetroit.com are both saying they will broadcast the hearing live, even though they don't yet have live-streaming links posted yet.

I will post them as soon as I see them.

Joe Gentz is refusing to testify at Bob Bashara's trial.  WOW!

Prosecution says they don't need his testimony.

Here is vid of Joe Gentz in court refusing to testify.
He stated he had understood his testimony would shorten his (prior pleading of guilty of murder) to maybe 9 years in prison. He has found out different and feels he has been lied to.

Why is he or was he to testify for the defense?
Was this just a prelim defense questioning of him like a deposition in live court????

That would be odd as a jury has been sworn in and depos are usually taken BEFORE a jury is sworn.

" ..... Joseph Gentz was in court Friday afternoon and it was determined he will not testify in the trial of Bob Bashara.

Transcripts released today - of a September 26 hearing not originally revealed to the media - show Joseph Gentz wanted to withdraw his guilty plea in the death of Jane Bashara.

According to the transcript, Gentz believed he was promised, not on the record, that his sentence would be lowered to no more than five years if he were to testify against Bashara. He is currently serving time for pleading guilty to second degree murder in the death of Jane Bashara in exchange for his testimony against Bashara. He was sentenced to 17 to 28 years.

It was revealed during testimony that day that Gentz incriminated himself in the death of Jane Bashara during an interrogation with Grosse Pointe Park Police but was not immediately given a lawyer despite asking for one during the interrogation. Gentz's attorney says he went to the police department with two friends in the early morning hours of January 31, 2012, to seek safety from threats from Bob Bashara.

Gentz maintains Mr. Bashara held a gun to his head.

Judge Vonda Evans denied Gentz's motion to withdraw his guilty plea.

Gentz then asks, "I don't have to testify either, right?"

The issue that was taken up in court 2:30 Friday.

The prosecution has not listed Gentz as a witness for them in the Bashara trial but the defense has called him the number one witness for the defense......"

Gentz's decision means prosecutors could withdraw the plea and reinstate the charge of first-degree murder.

...Earlier this week, while reading the names of defense witnesses to prospective jurors in Bashara's trial, the defense listed Gentz.

Now, the defense plans to file a motion asking the court for a finding that Gentz is not available to testify, said Michael McCarthy, one of the attorneys representing Bashara.

"If that finding is made, then under the rules of evidence certain things that he said in the past can be admitted into evidence," McCarthy said.

At a hearing following Gentz's hearing, Evans told attorneys that, during opening statements in Bashara's trial on Tuesday, they can't say Gentz will testify.

Gentz refuses to testify in Bashara murder trial
October 13, 2014

In order for both legal teams to use previous statements made by Gentz during the trial — such as statements to police — Evans said they would need to receive an order from the court stating that Gentz was unavailable to testify. McCarthy said he would file an emergency motion for that purpose. At press time, Evans had scheduled a hearing on that motion for 9 a.m. Oct. 14 — the day Bashara’s murder trial was scheduled to start.

“We’re going to go forward (with the trial) on Tuesday,” said Evans, adding that they might start trial proceedings a little later in the day, possibly at noon.

I read a tweet saying that the lawyers haven't shown up yet.  Supposedly, there's a hearing first about Gentz.

Judge is done rambling on in a scolding voice to the jury/court re initial jury instructions. I don't like her liberal and relaxed attitude in court while she snaps out her words. Makes it sound rather bossy. Oh well. I just get to watch....State has 145 m to present; 10 m break; then def has 145 m.

DETROIT, MI -- A photo of Jane Bashara's lifeless body appeared on an overhead screen in the courtroom of Wayne County Circuit Judge Vonda Evans Tuesday.

"Oh my God," a woman said in the muffled voice from the back row of the courtroom filled with mostly media and some apparent friends or relatives.

The Detroit police photo showed 56-year-old Jane Bashara in the back seat of her Mercedes SUV found by Detroit police Jan. 25, 2012 parked in an abandoned alley surrounded by litter.

Lindsey presented Bashara -- on the surface a family man, landlord, church usher and philanthropist -- as a fraud who in reality wanted his wife dead so he could pursue his secret BDSM lifestyle with his mistress and a second "slave" they intended to include.

Jane Bashara had no interest in the alternative lifestyle, something that caused friction in their relationship, Robert Godard, a nearly-20-year friend of the couple later testified.

"He told police, you know, I don't want to narc on my poor wife, but my wife smoked marijuana," Lindsey said, "and maybe she went out to get some marijuana and the rest was history."

Lindsey says that in December of 2011 Bashara "told two separate people that this is going to be the last Christmas I spend with my wife at that house ... "

Today, Rachel Gillett, Bashara's former mistress, took the stand and testified about their relationship and plans to make a life together.

...He participated in BDSM — bondage, discipline, sadomasochism — with Gillett for years before Jane Bashara's death, according to today's testimony.
