Bashara testimony Tuesday includes friend of Jane, medical examiner

Other testimony was heard Tuesday that Bashara was trying to cover his tracks elsewhere, making sure his tenant and her friends saw him sweeping the alley the night of Jane's death - January 24 2012.

"What did the defendant say to you about his wife," a lawyer asked tenant Missy Keller.

"That he did not kill his wife and that he hoped he didn't go down for something somebody else did," Keller said.

Medical examiner: Jane Bashara was overpowered, died of asphyxia

Monday in court, video from the night of 7:47 p.m., Jan. 24, 2012  was shown of Gentz at a McDonald's on Gratiot - three miles from where he has just dumped Jane Bashara's body.

You can see him holding his gloves - touching the left side of his face. He would later be photographed with a scratch there, one believed to have been inflicted by Jane Bashara.

As she tried to fight for her life, she was found with a broken fingernail but no other defensive injuries.

Wayne County Medical Examiner Francisco Diaz back on the stand.

"The lack of defensive-type injuries indicates that she not have the ability to fight back," he said. "Obviously she was overpowered."

...But back to the night of Jan. 24, prosecutors say Bob Bashara was in and out of the Hard Luck Lounge that evening, ordering Captain and Coke instead of the beer he always ordered  and made sure the bartender saw that he was there.

..."We're going to do closing arguments on Monday, December 8th," said Judge Vonda Evans.

Prosecution has no more witnesses in Bashara trial

Prosecutors called their last witness to the stand in Bob Bashara's murder trial Monday, nearly two months after jury selection started.

..."We anticipate that we will call probably four, perhaps five, witnesses," said Michael McCarthy, one of Bashara's attorneys.

...A bartender who saw Bob Bashara hours before he reported his wife missing on Jan. 24, 2012, described things he did that evening that she hadn't seen him do before.

Bashara went to the Hard Luck Lounge at about 5:15 p.m. and ordered a Captain Morgan and Coke, not his usual Pabst Blue Ribbon, Kristy Sample testified.

He left about 30 minutes later and told Sample he planned to return to the bar.

"Had he ever told you about his comings and goings before that day?" Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Robert Moran asked.

"No," Sample replied, saying it was unusual for him to do so.

Bashara returned to the bar around 6:45 p.m., later met with a friend and left around 8:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., she said. She wasn't watching a clock, so the times are approximate, Sample said.

Judge drops one charge against Bashara

Detroit — Robert Bashara faced six felony charges when his trial began in October. Now, he faces five.

Wayne Circuit Judge Vonda Evans on Tuesday granted a request by Bashara's attorney to drop the charge of subornation of perjury. Prosecutors said Bashara had asked one of his handymen to lie under oath about his relationship with his longtime girlfriend, Rachel Gillett.

But Evans ruled that while earlier testimony showed Bashara had asked his handyman Robert Fick to refrain from telling police about his relationship with Gillett, he hadn't asked him to lie under oath.

Bob Bashara trial continues Wednesday after power outage

...With that taken care of, the defense and prosecution both went after a Grosse Pointe Park Detective.

Michael Nardozi took the stand with the defense accusing the detective and other officer of failing to pick up Jane's clothes from the morgue. The defense argued that Nardozi failed to meet deadlines and ask for help in the investigation. She also accused him of refusing to listen to her because she was a woman.

The other officer in charge of the case will testify Thursday. After that testimony, it is expected the defense will rest.

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) – A tension-filled day at the Bob Bashara trial with arguments and even a juror being chastised. The case is starting to wind down with the defense ready to call their next-to-last witness.

It was nearly an hour of questioning for Grosse Pointe Park Police Detective Michael Narduzzi, reports WWJ’s Marie Osborne, much of which centered around the clothes that Jane Bashara was wearing the night she was murdered.

The clothes she was wearing were never processed for evidence.

Bashara trial's tale of sex, lies enters final chapter

A sex dungeon in an affluent Detroit suburb, discussion of Hollywood-style murder-for-hire plots, mistresses and cocaine use at a private golf course.

Many details that were once private in Bob Bashara's life turned public as prosecutors laid out their case against the former Grosse Pointe Park businessman accused of masterminding the 2012 death of his wife, Jane Bashara.

The case, which garnered national attention, has been filled with scandalous twists and turns since the 56-year-old marketing executive was discovered dead on Jan. 25, 2012, in her Mercedes-Benz SUV — dumped in an alley on Detroit's east side.

Closing arguments are scheduled for Tuesday. The next day, a Wayne County jury is expected to start weighing the vast amount of evidence, presented during the two-month trial, that includes testimony from more than 70 witnesses and hundreds of exhibits.
