Wayne County Prosecutor's Press Release:

Today after 12 weeks in trial a jury has convicted Robert Bashara of, Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Murder, Solicitation to Commit Murder, First Degree Murder, Witness Intimidation, and Obstruction of Justice. On April 17, 2013 Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy charged Robert Bashara, 57, formerly of Grosse Pointe Park in connection with the homicide of his wife Jane Bashara, 56, in their marital home located in the 500 block of Middlesex in Grosse Pointe Park. Robert Moran, Chief of Special Investigations and Lisa Lindsey, Lead Assistant Prosecuting Attorney prosecuted the case. He will be sentenced on before Judge Vonda Evans on January 15, 2015 at 9:00 a.m.

Suborning of Perjury During a Capital Trial (Life or Any Term of Years),
This count was dismissed by the court in a directed verdict motion on December 2,
2014
Witness Intimidation (15 Years) and
Obstruction of Justice (Five years).

Just on the first count alone, he will never get out of prison.

Ohhhh HAPPY DAY.
Rest in peace Jane that monster will never hurt an innocent person again. I'm so sorry he killed you. May Jane's children be able to heal somewhat and be able to remember their Mom for the wonderful spirit she was and is. Jane's Mom and sibling's, I also hope they can feel a sense of peace for Jane and themselves too.
As for the monster's family...I kinda feel bad about them too but I have to remember that they did a horrible thing in helping to keep Jane's ashes away from the rightful owner's IMO (Jane's Mom namely).

Jury finds Bob Bashara guilty of first-degree murder

Bob Bashara touched his hand over his eyes, shaking his head, after the jury foreman read the verdict: Guilty, on all counts, of murdering his wife of 26 years.

The former Grosse Pointe Park businessman was "in shock" to hear the words, his attorneys later said.

...Police Chief David Hiller, who was in court for the verdict, said afterward that he's "very satisfied" with how the case was handled.

"It's tough on a small department, obviously," he said, adding that the trial's outcome will bring closure to the community, where the Basharas were well-known.

...For Brian Williamson, one of four alternate jurors dismissed before the jury went into deliberatons, the verdict came as no surprise.

"It's basically how I would have voted as well," said the 40-year-old Brownstown Township mechanical engineer, noting that "it wouldn't have taken me as long."

Williamson said he knew some of the names in the case but not so much about the details when he was initially selected for jury duty and "really did kind of take him as innocent."

That changed over the course of the trial, and Williamson said he is convinced of Bashara's guilt.

Detroit — Robert Bashara slumped and shook his head as the jury foreman read aloud the verdicts that will keep the former Grosse Pointe Park businessman behind bars for the rest of his life.

Guilty on all five charges, including first-degree murder, in the murder-for-hire slaying of his wife, Jane.

...With the trial over, the two Bashara children, Robert Jr. and Jessica, will have to sort out complicated financial matters, in addition to struggling with their emotions, Naeyaert said.

"It's going to take a while to work things out financially," she said. "The rental properties, Jane's 401(k); it's all been on hold. Hopefully they can get all that figured out so they can get on with their lives."

Naeyaert said while Jane Bashara's family is happy with Thursday's verdict, there's still a lot of heartache.

"It's a good and bad day for the kids," she said. "It's bittersweet: They can get on with their lives, but this is their father."

His lips clamped and tightened. His eyes began to flutter. He periodically shook his head.

...Jurors declined to speak with media after the ruling and slipped out a rear elevator where two white extended van transported them past media to a secret parking lot.

Evans said she'd try and set a media day for press to speak with any willing jurors about the case after the new year.

Thank you CP for posting this. I will be tuned in on the 15th of January to watch the sentencing and I gotta say I hope he keeps his face shut during the proceedings as he has no way of denying or justifying Jane's murder and the less he says the less pain it will cause Jane's loved one's, not that he cares mind you but if he knows what's good for him he'll sit down and shut up and take what he has coming like a man for the first time in his life.

I have heard of a room being made available for interviews by media for the jurors who want to speak to the media but I have never, ever heard of a judge delaying those interviews so the jury will have to return at a much later date! This judge is a control freak trying to insert herself into every piece of this trial.... asking stupid comments of witnesses, dressing so dramatically, and it appears, to me, she keeps pointing the finger to herself to say, "See me? Can you see me? Let me send you a selfie during one of the breaks...!"

At press time, Bob Bashara was slated to be sentenced in 3rd Circuit Court Judge Vonda Evans’ courtroom at 9 a.m. Jan. 15, 2015. Bashara is expected to spend the rest of his life behind bars, as first-degree murder carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole. Conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and solicitation to commit murder carry a possible sentence of life or any number of years in prison. Witness intimidation carries a possible 15-year sentence, and obstruction of justice carries a five-year sentence. Bashara is already serving 80-240 months in prison for pleading guilty in 2012 to trying to hire someone to kill Gentz behind bars.

I watched this as it was coming in and it was great to see justice for Jane.... the only type left. I did wish the judge gave it up on that fake emoting at the end. There was no need to be yelling in the courtroom. She had already delivered the final blow to the Blob.

Bashara racks up jail violations behind bars
5:17 p.m. EST January 15, 2015

Bob Bashara appears to be less than a model inmate behind bars.

The former Grosse Pointe Park businessman has racked up repeated violations dating to 2012, including hiding or hoarding medication, lying, talking when not permitted and using vulgar language, according to Wayne County Jail records obtained by the Free Press.

...He also turned over a rusty razor blade that was in his cell and said "he was not suicidal and had no intentions on hurting himself," a report said.

After Robert Bashara was convicted in December of having his wife Jane killed, he vowed to appeal his case “until my hands are raw, blood comes from eyes and I take my last breath.”

The first step in that effort is underway, with Bashara’s case moving forward in the Michigan Court of Appeals.

“We’re at the initial stages of this appeal,” said Livonia-based attorney Ronald Ambrose, who was appointed to represent Bashara in the appellate case, which was filed March 9. “The court transcripts are going to be prepared in the next 90 days, and once I get those I’ll be in a better position to move forward.”

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said Thursday it “will be filing a responsive brief at the appropriate time.”

"....DETROIT (AP) -- Detroit police are investigating whether officers wrongfully logged court time during the lengthy trial of a man who ended up sentenced to life in prison for arranging his wife's killing.

The Detroit News reports the investigation includes reports that officers involved in the case of Bob Bashara wrote false subpoenas to appear in court so they could collect overtime. Jane Bashara's body was dumped in Detroit, miles from the couple's home in Grosse Pointe Park, an upper class suburb.

An investigation into allegations of widespread overtime abuse began in November. Police Chief James Craig says the investigation later widened to include several other units....."

Labyrinth Being Dedicated In Memory Of Jane Bashara

GROSSE POINTE WOODS, Mich. (AP) – A labyrinth is being dedicated in memory of Jane Bashara, a suburban Detroit woman who was strangled three years ago.

Jane’s Walk is located in the front yard of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Grosse Pointe Woods. An event is planned Sunday. The church says prayer stations that explore the symbolic journey of walking a labyrinth are being planned as part of the memorial.

DETROIT - The Local 4 Defenders have obtained new documents showing a motion for a new trial has been filed in the case against Bob Bashara.

... Bashara said his attorneys failed to follow his suggestions for witnesses to be called and points to argue. He said he was told "they had this."

Bashara also claims investigators failed to research and talk to or visit numerous places where he felt key information would be uncovered. He also was upset a change of venue was never sought due to all the pretrial publicity.

Moreover, Bashara says he was denied the right to confront his accuser, Joe Gentz. Gentz cut his own deal.

Hearing Granted For Bob Bashara In Connection With 2014 Murder Conviction

...A hearing has been scheduled for mid-September, after Bob Bashara filed a motion blaming his two attorneys for failing to properly represent him.

...Attorney Michael McCarthy says he and the other attorney, Lillian Diallo, will be at the hearing.

A hearing is scheduled for Sept. 15 before Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Vonda Evans, who presided over Bob Bashara's trial.
