Caly, it was brought to my attention yesterday that a guy, by the name of Jordan Hamlett, claiming to be with Averlock Investigations, was a guest on the Websleuth's Radio Show on Sunday, 6/17/12.

He allegedly claims to be pro-bono and allegedly claims he has spoken to Mickey Shunick's mother and has her "approval" to investigate Mickey's disappearance.

It appears that may not be the case per your post using Charlene Shunick's statement.
Do you have a Link to Charlene's statement? Was that statement posted on one of her Facebook pages?

In regards to Jordan Hamlett, the Private Investigator from Averlock Investigators: it has come to our attention that he has invented a relationship with the family and his role in the investigation is impeding the investigation and risking my sister's life and safe return. He has been claiming to have received a donation to begin working on the case, but is in fact working pro bono and using the situation to get his name out there. Our family has begged him to cease his active role in the investigation and is asking, as always, that all tips and leads be reported to the tipline 3372918633 and the family's PI 3372350270. My mother has also asked him to give all tips that he has to the detectives as well as the PI.

Divers search Whiskey Bay area

Divers on Wednesday searched the Whiskey Bay area, but police would not confirm whether the activity was linked to the case of Michaela "Mickey" Shunick, who went missing a month ago.

Instead, Cpl. Kyle Soriez, a spokesman for the Lafayette Police Department, said there are no developments in the disappearance of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette student.

Coping with the trauma of Mickey's disappearance

There is no "normal" when it comes to coping with the loss a loved one. There is even less normalcy when that loved one is missing, when family and friends have no clues about his or her whereabouts, or whether the person is dead or alive.

Since Mickey Shunick's mysterious May 19 disappearance, her friends and family have kept optimistic, openly expressing their belief that Shunick is still alive. Over a month later, some of that enthusiasm has waned, but the optimism remains.

I remember hearing that a white truck fitting the description of the one in the videos was found abandoned at a hotel parking lot in Texas. Was anything ever linked to that truck and Mickey?

Calypso, this guy reaks of creepy, interjecting himself into the case & imposing on Mickey's family when her family is so desperate to find her. I wonder if this guy has been vetted by LE.

The plight of families looking for loved one's is always heartbreaking, still praying & hoping for Mickey's safe return.

I don't recall any mainstream media articles that are posted on this thread referencing a white truck fitting the description of the one in the videos being found at a hotel parking lot in Texas.

I think it is nothing more than a rumor.

I was beginning to think that this case was getting cold. I guess we don't have any other choice but to wait until tomorrow to find more information about the case.

Per the above article from KLFY (posted by Ann - Tx on Thu Jul 05, 2012 5:35 pm), the search warrant is being executed by LPD and Saint Landry Parish Sheriff Deputies at Brandon Scott Lavergne's residence in the 100 block of Elaine Lane in the Swords area.

Per Mapquest, it is approximately 35 miles from Lafayette to Swords, LA. (north of Lafayette)

Hi Ann, how far is it from where this guy lived to where Mickeys bike was found? I always felt it was a local fisherman.

An arrest has been made by Lafayette police in connection to the Mickey Shunick case. According to other reports. Brandon Scott Lavergne from the Lawtell area has been arrested.

According to the affidavit for Lavergne’s arrest, he was taken into custody at 5:45 p.m. at his home in the 100 block of Elaine Lane in Church Point, and he cooperated with police with during the arrest.

Fifteenth Judicial District Court Judge Marilyn Castle signed the two warrants for Lavergne’s arrest, one for each first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping.

According to the warrants, Lavergne, 33, is being held on a $250,000 bond for the aggravated kidnapping charge, and Castle wrote “no bond – capital case,” on the warrant for Lavergne’s first-degree murder charge.

Lavergne appears on the Louisiana State Police website as a registered sex offender. According to the website, he was convicted in 2000 of aggravated oral sexual battery. Police have spent several hours searching a home in the Lawtell area.

Latest Update Volunteers React To Arrest in Shunick Case

It was a day that started out like any other day at the Mickey Shunick Volunteer Center. That all changed when news came out that an arrest had been made in the case.

"This is a big day for us. This has been a long 47 days," Volunteer Margaret Bearb said.

People were getting the news through Facebook, phone calls and text messages. Bearb placed a prayer in a box a couple of days ago and attributes this news partially to prayer.

"That was I think the biggest moment. That feeling today when I got that phone call was because that petition was in there and it came true," Bearb said.

An arrest has been made by Lafayette police in connection to the Mickey Shunick case. According to other reports. Brandon Scott Lavergne from the Lawtell area has been arrested. He is a registered sex offender, according the the Louisiana Sex Offender Registry. Police and other law enforcement agencies have a search warrant to search Lavergne's home.

He was convicted in February 2000 for aggravated oral sexual battery. He was on probation until November 2010.

According to the LSP sex offender website, Lavergne is a Tier 3 sex offender, which is the most serious classfication. Tier 3 offenders must register with the national sex offender registry for life.

Looking at the wording, is it being ascertained by the detective that in the detective's belief the suspect committed the crimes of murder and aggravated kidnapping OR is it being affirmed the suspect stated HE DID THESE THINGS?

I am asking if there was a confession on the part of the suspect?

EDITED: MY ERROR. As many times as I read that before I first posted this and now I see my own error. According to the pdf, the suspect was NOT deposed on May 19th; the charges allege the crime occurred on May 19th! Wow. That clears up a lot for me.

This is fantastic news that an arrest has been made, I am really surprised as I thought they might never find the person that abducted her. I am terribly sadden to read Mickey is deceased, I hope all the information comes out in her case.

Freckles, Detective Stephen N. Bajet was sworn in by Judge Marilyn C. Castle, 15th District Judicial Court, and stated or affirmed that Brandon Scott Lavergne, white male, DOB 1/8/1979 willfully and unlawfully commit the crime of First Degree Murder, etc. (Not verbatim). It does not mean that Bajet interviewed Lavergne on 5/19/12.

I don't seem to understand what you don't understand about this Affidavit. Sorry.

Arrest made in case of missing Lafayette student Mickey Shunick

Shunick family members did not return calls Thursday evening, but Shunick's sister, Charlie Shunick, responded via text messages.

"We are relieved that the police have made an arrest," she wrote. "The circumstances are pretty distressing. If she is gone, it is a void in the fabric of the world and a devastating blow to our family."

According to Louisiana law, first-degree murder includes "the killing of a human being" when the offender has "specific intent to kill or to inflict great bodily harm and is engaged in the perpetration of aggravated kidnapping."

The law defines aggravated kidnapping as "the forcible seizing and carrying of any person from one place to another; or the enticing or persuading of any person to go from one place to another; or the imprisoning or forcible secreting of any person."

If a district attorney seeks a capital verdict in a first-degree murder case, the crime can come with a sentence of death or life in prison.

Police search home in Shunick case

That was what neighbors remembered most about him.

"I got a sex offender letter about him, but I don't know him. He's been living there for two or three years and I see him come and go on the weekends," neighbor Shirley said. Shirley declined to give her last name, because she said she feared for her family.

She said police arrived that afternoon and the sheriff told her that they were investigating an "accident that happened in Lafayette," and that she should not be scared.

Still, Shirley worried, especially because Lavergne and the woman who often lived with him seemed so unassuming and quiet.

"They mostly stick to themselves," she said. "He does drive a white truck."

Josh Miller, a two-year resident of the area, pulled up to the crime scene on his ATV and looked, not knowing what to make of the situation.

"We drive down this road to go to the highway and everybody seems really nice down here. It's really quiet," Miller said. "I know they have a lot of woods back here and a bayou. You just wouldn't expect someone who lives here to be involved."
