Witness: Ross Harris also 'had relations' with a man on vacation

Kristen Reed, WXIA 5:28 PM. EDT October 17, 2016

The third week of testimony of the hot car death trial of Cobb County dad Ross Harris began Monday

Harris is accused of intentionally leaving his son in his hot SUV to die.

On Monday, the jury heard testimony from an underage girl Harris allegedly sexted with. She said the relationship began when she posted, "I love older guys" on the social app Whisper. Prosecutors said the 15-year-old told Harris that she was 18. Harris sent the teen a selfie from a bathroom, and later a picture of his genitalia. The teen sent Harris a sexually-explicit picture of herself, she said, and then confessed that she was only 15 years old.

"He wanted me to make him a naughty old man," she said.

While that testimony was not broadcasted, testimony from another woman was.

~Snipped~

Robledo said she also met Harris on the social app Whisper and began a friendship. She testified that they met up in the summer of 2013 to have sex at his apartment. After that they allegedly kept up an online friendship.

She also testified that Harris told her he hooked up with a man while on vacation in 2014. He allegedly met that man on the Whisper app also.

Oct. 17: Day 7 of testimony

By Veronica Waters and Misty Williams

www.ajc.com

BRUNSWICK - This is a running account of the Justin Ross Harris murder trial. He is accused of murdering his toddler son Cooper by leaving him in a hot SUV in June 2014.

4:33 p.m.

Court is done for the day. Testimony will start up again at 8:30 a.m.

4:31 p.m.

You’re the one who provided Harris the link to the child free chat, Kilgore said. Yes, Hall said.

Boring is asking Hall more questions.

Hall said he’s not sure if he told detectives about the thread.

Since that time, Hall has chosen not to talk to the state since he was first called to testify by the defense.

4:21 p.m.

The next piece of evidence is another chat from June 16, 2014, where Harris referenced Orange is the New Black again.

On April 28, 2014, they again discuss where to go to lunch. “There’s nothing unusual about that,” Kilgore said. No, Hall responded.

So r/childfree – the Reddit thread – exists, Hall said in the chat later that day.

“You don’t subscribe to that philosophy do you?” Kilgore said. No, Hall said.

Harris wasn't for it, Hall said.

Within 20 seconds of you putting that out on the chat, Harris responded "grossness," Kilgore said.

4:13 p.m.

There was another chat on June 7, 2014, where Harris mentioned Orange is the New Black, a show on Netflix about women in prison.

In another chat, June 12, 2014, there is a photo of burgers on a grill.

“I’m hanging with the lady and my boy Saturday,” Harris wrote just days before Cooper died.

In the chat, Hall teases Ross because he’s using a gas grill instead of charcoal.

“When you have a wife and kids, easy is the way to go,” Harris responded.

4:10 p.m.

Kilgore is now discussing a Google chat from June 4, 2014.

Harris said he might go home early during their discussion about what to do for lunch. Harris said he wasn’t going to do lunch with them because he was planning on going home early.

4:05 p.m.

Kilgore showed Hall a Google chat from March 31, 2014.

Harris was talking about hunting for houses in Acworth and Kennesaw. Hall mentioned that Harris would have a really long commute.

“If you pay my son’s private school, I’d gladly live in Buckhead,” Harris wrote.

“I’d live inside the perimeter if the schools were decent,” he also wrote.

3:57 p.m.

On this particular day, nothing unusual about going to lunch together, picking up Ross, going to Publix or running errands, Kilgore said.

“We’d done all of that several times before,” Hall said.

There was also nothing remarkable about Harris suggesting they go see a movie, Kilgore said. No, Hall responded.

3:52 p.m.

Kilgore is now cross examining Hall.

“He liked to brag about (Cooper),” Hall said. Harris was glowing about his son, he testified.

3:41 p.m.

Hall brought up in their Google chats a Reddit thread about living “child free” on April 28, 2014.

Harris’ response was “grossness.” Hall, who has no children, said he didn’t recall that conversation at all.

3:36 p.m.

Hall said that he typically drove to lunch, although Harris did sometimes too.

Harris had interviewed at Chick-fil-A for a different job, which he talked with Hall about a little bit. Hall said Harris was upset that he didn’t get the job.

Did Harris ever seen stressed out about a project? Boring asked. Hall said he can imagine that Harris was stressed at some point about work but didn’t seem to be in the days leading up to Cooper’s death.

3:30 p.m.

Alex Hall is the prosecution’s next witness.

Hall works at Home Depot and knows Harris from college. They became closer once they both started working at Home Depot.

He is one of the partners that joined Harris is joining a web development consulting business.

“We were pretty much all the way there with the legal stuff,” said Hall when asked about how far along their business was. They already had one firm client and some prospective clients.

Hall said he didn’t see Cooper very often.

'He wanted me to make him a naughty old man': Alabama teen testifies that she was 15 when she sexted with Ross Harris in the weeks before he left his infant son to die in boiling hot car

".... Last week Daniela Doerr, a former prostitute, told the court that Harris had sex with her three times in the weeks before his son died.

Harris, 35, had contacted her after finding an ad that listed her services, she said.

Police located her after discovering her number on Harris' cell phone following his arrest for Cooper's death....."

".....Prosecutors previously said Harris was messaging six women the day Cooper died and reportedly told one woman on Whisper: 'I love my son and all but we both need escapes.' ...."

ETA:  JMO, but that tall thin defense attorney is a pr*ck.  Ugh he rubs me the wrong way.  I'll take Kilgore any day over him! He needs to consider jury management - he could be really turning them off with his snarky and combative attitude toward witnesses. This poor guy whose only job was to pull surveillance was grilled for almost an hour on cross.

BRUNSWICK — Jurors in the Ross Harris hot-car murder trial on Tuesday watched surveillance video that showed Harris leaving his son in his SUV, returning to his car at lunchtime and then driving away from work that afternoon.

The viewing must have been a sobering moment for jurors because they know 22-month-old Cooper Harris was inside his father’s car that day and died after being left there for seven hours. Prosecutors contend Harris deliberately left his son in his hot car to die. Harris’ attorneys say it was a gut-wrenching accident.

The videos were introduced through Greg Sanders, a security officer for Home Depot, where Harris worked as a web developer.

Nausea, seizures, dehydration': Justin Ross Harris breaks down in court again as medical examiner shows jurors 34 AUTOPSY photos and describes son Cooper's 'prolonged, agonizing' death in family's boiling hot SUV

".... At one point he stopped by the car to drop off some light bulbs. By that point Cooper had already been in there for around four hours.

Frist could not say with any certainty whether Cooper would have been alive by that time......"
And he said he was unaware of his son being inches away from him in the car???
I am sure the diaper would have let go by now.... and the smell would have permeated the car....

"....Another witness, Mark Wilson, told the court Tuesday that he was in the Cobb County Police 'holding pit' on a DUI charge when Harris arrived.

Harris said, 'What's up, guys?' Wilson recalled.

He was 'pretty nonchalant and didn't appear sad or upset,' he added, saying that Harris never told Wilson why he had been arrested.

They sat beside each other in the large holding area and engaged in 'small talk' for two to three hours as they waited to be processed into the system, Wilson said.

Video from the jail showed Harris sitting in a chair near the front with his arm on the back, in a seemingly relaxed way. ...."

Hi Weezie,

I totally agree with you regarding the lawyer that you referred to on your above post. He is on right now, and, I'm wondering what is the purpose of the questions that he is asking to the witness who made the experiments to calculate the heat and temperature of the car where Cooper was left to die. the witness is obviously well versed in the subject, he is not. He wants to argue a point that does not exist. This is utterly ridiculous, the child died of hyperthermia because he was left inside a vehicle in a very hot day. Why in the world is he wasting the time of the court?  I'm annoyed, I wonder how the jury feels.

The defense lawyer, if anything, painted a picture of Cooper dying inside a hot car by posing the questions to the estate expert witness about body heat, body temperature, humidity and heat index. He was trying to use this witness to rebut the medical examiner's testimony that implied Cooper could have been alive at lunch time when Ross placed the light bulbs inside the SUV. The problem with asking these question repeatedly is that he was creating for the jury a visual of Cooper last hours inside his father's vehicle.

This is an extremely sad case.

Minute-by-minute: Day 9 of the Ross Harris hot car death trial

by: Hope Jensen Updated: Oct 19, 2016 - 11:53 AM

11:52 a.m. Court recesses for lunch. Will resume at 1:15 p.m.

-----

11:41 a.m. Jamar says Whisper keeps no record of private chats on the website or application, but can provide information on posts made publicly.

-----

11:31 a.m. State calls Lauren Jamar to the stand. Jamar is the director of content operations for the app Whisper.

-----

11:26 a.m. Brani says he is not a forensic pathologist so he can't describe the exact impact a child's body would have on the internal temperature of the car, but he believes his readings are accurate and wouldn't be changed significantly.

-----

11:18 a.m. Brani says he accessed the vehicle briefly around the same time Harris did on the day of Cooper's death to keep results accurate.

-----

11:13 a.m. Court resumes from break. Brani's testimony continues.

-----

10:33 a.m. Court recesses for morning break.

-----

10:24 a.m. Defense argues that the temperatures are not accurate because there was no child in the car. Brani says he disagrees and believes the information is accurate.

-----

10:16 a.m. Brani says any variables or discrepancies discovered in the morning would not "have any meaningful effect on the temperatures, especially in the afternoon."

-----

9:57 a.m. Defense says there's no way to know if the starting temperature in the heat test was the same as the actual starting temperature on June 18, 2014. Brani says he began his test an hour earlier than Harris actually parked his car so possible discrepancies in A/C temperature should even out.

-----

9:50 a.m. Defense argues that Cooper's body would have added heat to the car. Brani says it's true that if there is an object that is hotter than the internal temperature of the car it would act as a heat source. "In theory, the temperature may be a little warmer where that body was."

-----

9:45 a.m. Brani says his testing in this case cost taxpayers around $24,000.

-----

9:40 a.m. Brani says he had not completed hot car testing like this before so he did lots of background research before and after completing the testing.

-----

9:26 a.m. Brani says around 3:30 p.m., the temperature reached 125 degrees.

— Ross Cavitt | WSB-TV (@RossCavittWSB) October 19, 2016

-----

9:19 a.m. Brani says the temperatures inside and outside the car matched up around 11:35 a.m. at 88 degrees. At around 12:45, about the time Harris returned to his car after lunch, Brani says the temperature at the car seat was 98 degrees. He says the temperature in the car rose above 100 degrees shortly before 1 p.m.

-----

9:18 a.m. Brani says when testing began, the temperature inside the car was 65 degrees and outside was 80 degrees because the air conditioning had been running.

-----

9:10 a.m. Brani says on June 18, 2014, the day of Cooper's death, the temperature was 91 degrees. On July 8, the day they did the heat study, it was 92 degrees.

-----

9:00 a.m. Brani says he took temperature readings every hour throughout the day.

-----

8:58 a.m. Brani says he completed the heat testing in Harris' car at the Home Depot tree house office on July 8, 2014, three weeks after Cooper's death.

-----

8:48 a.m. Court resumes. State calls David Michael Brani to the stand. Brani is an expert in thermal dynamics and heat transfer. He conducted the temperature testing inside Ross Harris' car.

Ross Harris trial: 4 key takeaways from emotional day of testimony

Christian Boone and  Bill Rankin- The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Updated6:58 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016 | Filed in Atlanta News

BRUNSWICK — Cooper Harris’ lifeless body was covered in discolorated skin from pooled blood and had numerous abrasions the Cobb County medical examiner testified on Tuesday.

Graphic images shown to the jury by the examiner illuminated the extent of the toddler’s injuries — creating an emotional morning of testimony in the hot car murder trial. Justin Ross Harris is charged with murder in the death of his 22-month-old son who he left in a hot SUV to die in June 2014. The defense maintains it was a tragic accident.

Here are three key developments from Tuesday’s testimony.

1. ‘He probably would have struggled’

Harris broke down repeatedly Tuesday as prosecutors detailed his son’s final hours, in pictures and words.

At least one of the jurors was also overcome with emotion as former Cobb County Medical Examiner Brian Frist described the agony experienced Cooper in the backseat of his father’s SUV. His death was not quick, Frist said. Just how long it took is unknown.

Cooper experienced a wide array of maladies as his organs began to shut down, Frist testified.

“The phases he would have experienced, could have experienced, likely included nausea,” he said. “He would have had a headache. He would become dehydrated. He may have had seizures. He probably would have struggled as he was becoming more and more uncomfortable.”

2. ‘(Cooper) could have survived that’

The former medical examiner said there was a possibility that Cooper could have still been alive at lunchtime the day of his death when Harris opened his car door to throw a bag of light bulbs he had bought at Home Depot on the front seat.

Frist said he was told by a Cobb police officer that the temperature inside the car remained in the low 90s throughout the morning of June 18, 2014.

“(Cooper) could’ve survived that,” Frist said. Whether he was still alive when Harris stopped by his car about three hours and 15 minutes after leaving his son locked inside remains a mystery. The high temperature that day reached 92 degrees outside; some estimates had the temperature inside the 2011 Hyundai Tucson at or near 140 degrees.

3. Did he see Cooper?

Jurors watched surveillance video from the Home Depot office parking lot that showed Harris leaving his son in his SUV, returning to his car at lunchtime and then driving away from work that afternoon.

In one snippet, he passes an open space, backs up and then drives in and parks at 9:25 a.m. Harris had just returned from a nearby Chick-fil-A where he and Cooper ate breakfast. The video shows that Harris sat in his car for 33 seconds before exiting the vehicle.

Questioned by defense attorney Carlos Rodriguez, witness Greg Sanders, a security officer for Home Depot, acknowledged that Harris never bent down far enough to get inside his SUV and that he didn’t stick his head inside.

“He didn’t get in, he didn’t sit down in the car,” Rodriguez began. “He didn’t get into the car,” Sanders agreed.

Harris’ head never goes below the roof line, Rodriguez added. Sanders agreed. “The head is out,” he said.

The point is important because if the video showed Harris leaning inside his car and looking inside, he would have had to know Cooper was inside.

4. Relaxed and nonchalant?

The women who encountered Ross Harris in his secret life took the stand Thursday to testify about their sexually charged relationships, online and in person, with the former Home Depot web developer.

Prosecutors sought to establish Harris’ obsession with sex, a compulsion the state alleges led him to purposely leave his 22-month-old son Cooper inside a hot car to die. The defense insists it was just a tragic mistake.

Jaynie Meadows testified she was 18 when she and Harris began a series of online chats that, she said, blossomed into love.

“He told me that he loved me every day,” said Meadows, now 21. They remained in close contact until the week of Cooper’s death though met in person just one time, in August 2013.

Minute-by-minute: Day 10 of the Ross Harris hot car death trial

by: Hope Jensen Updated: Oct 20, 2016 - 4:23 PM

4:15 p.m. Court adjourns for the day. Will resume at 8:30 a.m. Friday.

-----

4:13 p.m. Defense says Meadows wrote Harris a letter after his arrest and asked his attorneys to give it to him. In the letter, she says she knows how much he adored Cooper.

-----

4:11 p.m. Meadows said they didn't have plans to be together, but Harris had talked about it. Defense says she never told them that before and insinuates she is lying because she's angry with Harris about the other women. Meadows says her anger doesn't change the facts.

-----

Ross Harris Trial

Live Courtroom Blog

Thursday, Oct 20: Day 10 of Testimony

By Veronica Waters

Cooper Harris, 22 months old, died in the back of his father's SUV on June 18, 2014.  His father, Justin Ross Harris, is accused of intentionally leaving his son to die in the vehicle.  Harris's murder trial is ongoing in Glynn County, Georgia.

4:18  Court is being recessed for the day.  Judge Mary Staley Clark gives the jury their instructions, then excuses them until 8:30 a.m.

4:15 Kilgore moves into evidence a letter that Jaynie wrote to Ross after he was arrested, and gave to Kilgore to give him.  She said in it that she knew how much he "adored Cooper." He says if that isn't because she never heard of Ross getting mad with Cooper.  She says he may have gotten irritated about something happening but not mad at Cooper, per se, but that it wasn't always sunshine and giggles.  Did she ever tell the police that? he asks. She says no one ever asked her.

Kilgore asks if Meadows is upset  Harris.  “No,” Meadows says. “What happened is terrible but...I’m just answering, like, as truthfully as possible.”

4:14  Re-cross by Kilgore: Y'all didn't have plans to be together, did you? No, but they talked about it. It's not like we formed a plan and planned it out, but he talked about it.  She says she guesses that this is the first time she's ever told anyone that.

"The fact is, you're really upset with Ross because you found out that you weren't the only woman he was texting with, isn't that true?" Kilgore asks.  "Doesn't change what I'm saying, no," Meadows replies.

4:12 "Did he tell you when you were in this relationship that you were the only one?" asks Boring.  "Yes," Meadows says.  "Did he tell you there were no other girls?" "Yes."  "Did he tell you this was real for him? Kilgore objects. Boring agrees and says he'll rephrase.  "Did he express to you that this was just some fantasy thing, or that he truly, truly felt the way he was telling you?" Kilgore objects: "He's leading." Judge Staley Clark: "He is. I sustain."  Boring: How'd he tell you he felt?  Meadows: He told me he loved me every day.

Boring: You used the term "best friends," right?  Yes.

Boring: How old were ya'll when you met?

Meadows: I was 18.

"He was helping you with papers and things like that?"  Yes.  "Gave you boyfriend advice?"  Yes.  "How old was he?" "His 30s."  "Did he have a wife?" Yes. "Did he have a kid?" Yes.  "But he loved you and y'all were best friends?" Yes.

"That's all I have," says Boring, walking back to the prosecution table.

4:09 Meadows reads from some kind of copies of screenshots of texts she saved.  This isn't clear.

The first one from her she can't see.  She reads what follows.

"It just made me realize how unhappy I can be sometimes. If he wasn't in the picture I probably would've left L by now," he said.

JM: Left L?

RH: Yes.

JM: Oh.

JM: That isn't a reason to stay with someone, Ross.

RH: And then I started thinking about how much I actually like you.  I know, but it's hard, Jaynie.

4:06 Re-direct by Chuck Boring.

4:03 Harris talked about Cooper, bragged on him? Kilgore asks.  Yes, she says.

Kilgore talks about the Cooper poop text Boring brought up.  Did she ever hear Ross say anything bad about Cooper, ever?  "Maybe about having to stay home with him but it was never like a mad, it was like an irritated," she says.

4:01 Ross had told you on the phone that his marriage was getting better over the previous couple of months? Meadows says she can't say that wholeheartedly. Doesn't remember telling the police that.  Doesn't know if hearing a tape of her talking to police would jog her memory.

Sounds like y'all were kind of on the outs between May 28 and June 18? asks Kilgore. She says on Kik, sure, but that doesn't mean Harris wasn't calling every day.  Was he calling every single day?  "I can't tell you every day, no," she says.

4:00 Kilgore has been taking Meadows through some three weeks' worth of messages she and Harris exchanged.  Among those:

May 29, she accused Harris of "not caring anymore" and never leaving his phone on.  He assures her that he cares.  Meadows says her boyfriend owes her a grand; something about him having problems with drugs.  Harris tells her that's bad, to get her money and leave.

May 30, she is waiting for him to call and he sends a photo of a guy he's having lunch with. Later that afternoon she texts that she's still waiting.

June 2, Harris texted her at 6:09 a.m.  June 9, there was the "phone disconnected" message.  June 11, Harris says, Hi.  June 13, she responded, Hey. They have a brief chat. She asks at 2:49 p.m. "You hate me now?"  He says, "Babe, not at all.  Just miss you...Do you even miss me?" She says, "If you ever turned your phone on, you would know that I did."  Harris asks, "How's Austin?"  She says that he keeps telling her she's going to fall back in love with him; Harris asks, "Y'all are still together?"

He also asks, "What grade did my paper get?" Meadows said Harris had helped her to write a school paper.

Messages over the following days were very casual and infrequent.

June 17: Harris texts, "Well you're gone again. That makes me sad."

Alexis Stevens

Updated 3:51 p.m Friday, Oct. 21, 2016 | Filed in AJC Homepage

4:13 p.m.

Court is adjourned for the day.

4:12 p.m.

“I know you didn’t do this on purpose. I know you didn’t. I love you,” Leanna says as they hug in parting.

The video ends.

4:09 p.m.

“Despite the charge, I appreciate the courtesy. You guys were good to me,” Harris says to Stoddard.

Harris tells Leanna to go to Home Depot and let his boss know what happened, leaving out the legal aspects of the situation.

Leanna asks what will happen with Harris’ job but he doesn’t know.

“If something happens, we have places to go, ok?” Harris says.

4:07 p.m.

“Does it have to be like this?” Leanna asks. “He didn’t do this on purpose.”

"By his actions, your son’s dead. I have to charge him on that,” Stoddard replies. The courts will take over from there, he says.

4:04 p.m.

Det. Stoddard comes in and tells Harris he seized his phone but can write down some numbers.

What are the next steps?, Harris asks. He'll be sent to jail tonight, Stoddard says.

Stoddard says charges could be added.

4:02 p.m.

Harris taps on the table with his fingers and takes a deep breath. “Okay. Okay,” he says.

4 p.m.

“What have I done? What have I done?” Harris says sobbing.

“I've never left him in the car. I’ve taken him to daycare a million times,” he says

3:57: Harris says he tried as hard as he could to save Cooper.

3:55

Harris says if he could bring Cooper back, he wouldn’t. When Leanna says, “You wouldn’t?” He replies, “No, because he’s in Heaven.”

3:50

Leanna says when she called the daycare center, she was told Cooper hadn’t been there all day.

3:48

Leanna asks Harris if he wants to have more children, and he says, “Yes.”

3:47

“It’s my fault,” Harris says, while sobbing.

3:42

Harris tells Leanna that Cooper looked so peaceful, and that his eyes and mouth were closed when he pulled him out of the car.

3:35 p.m.

"I can't believe I did this!" Harris says. "Why me?"

3:29 p.m.

Harris says his life is over.

3:27 p.m.

"I do not hate you," Leanna says. "I love you."

Ross Harris Trial

Live Courtroom Blog

Friday, Oct 21: Day 11 of Testimony

By Veronica Waters

~Snipped~

4:00 "I hate myself like everybody hates me," Ross says. "Nobody hates you," she says.  "I've never done that before. Not even close," he says.  "I know, I told them that," says Leanna.

3:39 "I know it was useless, but I tried to save him," says Ross.  "I know, baby," says Leanna.

3:58 Leanna tells Ross he has to start trying to forgive himself.

3:57 Harris says he would bring Cooper back if he could.  Leanna's head is resting on his knees.  "You would or you wouldn't?"  He would, Harris says again.

3:46 Harris asks Leanna when she found out. She says someone saw it on the news before she found out.  He told her. "What'd he say?" says Harris.  "Were there names or anything?" She says no, that the person recognized the car and told her, "A child died.  It was Ross's car."

3:38 "Just let me trade places with Cooper," Harris sobs, "please."  Leanna assures him they will get through this, that they will be the couple that makes it through this. Ross says he just doesn't want her to leave him.  "I won't leave you, baby. I love you," she says. "You're like my life support right now."

He says he'll be charged with a felony, lose his job; that would kill him. She asks is there any way they could not have him charged. He says that's up to them. He says Det. Stoddard is a very nice guy, says that he trusts the system and he has no priors; "This was a simple act of not really carelessness, but a brain fart from my routine," says Harris.

3:35 "Why did this happen to me?  Why me? Why me?" Harris wails.  "I feel like my life is over."

He says they treated him like such a bad person at the scene.  Says he tried to call Little Apron and to call her. He says after he cursed at the officer who told him to get off the phone, he was put in the back of the patrol car and he weeps that "I was in the back of the car the entire time that he was there."

3:34 Harris muses over what happened again.  They went to eat, Cooper had the sausage biscuit he loved. "I guess just because I go to Chick-fil-A every now and then, I left and turned left like I was going to work and he didn't make a sound. He didn't say a word," says Harris.

"Please don't hate me," he says.  "Honey, I could never hate you," she replies.   "Nobody hates you."  "Your mama's gonna," he weeps.  "No, she's not," says Leanna.

3:32  "Did you say too much?" Leanna asks, as Harris details his conversations with police.  "All I did was told them the events of the day. When he told me I was being charged I told him I'd like representation and I'd rather not talk anymore."

"I just want to die right now," Harris whispers.  "No. Uh-uh.  Do you know what that would do to me if you died right now?" Leanna asks. "You still love me?" he asks. "I love you," she says.  Harris says he doesn't feel safe, doesn't trust himself right now.  He sobs loudly again.  "I loved him so much!" he weeps.  "I know you do. I've never doubted that, honey, never!" she says. "I told them you didn't do it on purpose...that Cooper probably fell asleep."

He cries more. Says the only thing that makes him happy is knowing Cooper is in Heaven right now.  Leanna agrees, says he's playing with trucks.

"My boy...my boy...my boy..." Harris sobs hard again.

3:31  Harris explains that they are charging him. Leanna asks why. "Because of my actions. My actions resulted in his death," he says. "Do we need to get you a lawyer?" she says. "Yeah," he says. "It's not like I went to the grocery store and said I'm sure he's going to be fine, I'm going in for 30 minutes..."

3:30 When Leanna enters the room, she and Ross hug.  He cries.  She holds him.  "I love you, I love you," she repeat.  Harris sobs loudly, seems to be saying that he didn't do this on purpose, asking if she hates him.  "I know you didn't.  I don't hate you," says Leanna.

"I love Cooper," Harris sobs.  "I know," she says.

He details the day for her.  Describes the route, the conversation with police.  He's alternately talking and crying. Leanna comforts him.

3:22 Prosecutor Chuck Boring begins questioning Det. Stoddard.  Stoddard says they picked a Publix receipt out of the trash that Harris tossed in after picking it off the table.  He threw it away before detectives questioned him about his timeline.  They took him to a holding cell in the back of the homicide division after the interrogation.  They interviewed his then-wife. Then they let Leanna go in to talk to him.  This was about an hour and 15 minutes after he'd been sitting in the holding cell.

3:20  Back in session.  Judge has lawyers approach.

2:53 Court is on a break.

2:51 Harris says if he's going to be charged, he doesn't want to talk anymore. Stoddard says that's his right and they'll end this; it's 7:31.

2:49 Harris explains that he understands if something happens, police are going to question him and look at certain criminal statutes to see if one fits, but "I highly disagree."

Stoddard: But to leave a child in the car all day long...

Harris:  On purpose, though. That's what I would look at, cruelty.

Stoddard: Well, with cruelty, too, it doesn't have to be on purpose.

Harris: It's not like I left out of Chick-fil-A and said, Oh he's going to be fine in the car.  I would never do that.

Stoddard says his actions, not taking the boy to daycar, leaving the boy in the car, caused his death.  Harris says he disagrees.  Stoddard asks why.

2:48 Stoddard asks, "Any other questions, Ross? Anything you want to add?"

Harris:  "It was completely unintentional.  I have no history of child abuse.  I have no history of domestic violence, I have no criminal history, I've worked in a law enforcement environment..."

Stoddard: "You undersand our concens?"

Harris: "Absolutely. Absolutely. But I'm a great father and I have multiple people who would back that up, from the daycare to my wife."

2:47 Stoddard tells him, based on everything he's observed, Harris is going to be charged. "Okay. With what?" Harris asks. "With cruelty to a child," says Stoddard, "...based on that your son was in a hot car all day long."  "Okay," says Harris.

2:46  The detectives ask about the car seat choice. Stoddard asks, "How'd he fit in that car seat..." Harris says the car seat fits up to 30 pounds; Cooper was about 22, 23. He says they measured him to make sure his shoulders fit in the guidelines for the harness.

2:43 Stoddard asks Harris how he thinks this happened. Harris says there are often times he goes to Chick-fil-A after dropping off Cooper.  He says when he's alone, he always goes through the drive-thru.  When I turn out of Chick-fil-A I'll turn onto Cumberland, take that U-turn and I'll go straight to work, said Harris.  I don't know if my mind just said, that's what you're doing today...

"I would never leave him...I just watched a news report of a guy who did this, just like me. And now he's an advocate for turninig around and looking...and I've been doing that...because the worst fear for me is to leave my son in a hot car," says Harris.

2:41  Describes Cooper. He loves to play with cars. Loves Disney's "Cars."  Says it came on TV and he recorded it for him.

2:38 Stoddard says he has to ask personal questions.  Has this ever happened before? No.  He's never forgotten him.Harris says they've had that car seat since Cooper was born.  They switched car seats just a few weeks ago.

Harris replies to a question and says they have about $4,000 debt. Recently credit card bills are larger.  Why? asks Stoddard.  Harris says they recently came up with a plan to put everyday purchases on credit cards to earn airline miles, "which is working great, by the way."

2:37 Harris says he's had his job for about two years. Cooper has been going to that same day care since he was a baby.

2:30 Stoddard re-enters, tells Harris they have a few more questions to clear up some things.  Another detective asks about the routine for taking their son to day care.

Harris says if it's before 8:30, they'll usually do breakfast. It's rare that Cooper eats at home. Daycare breakfast cutoff is 8:30, he says.

Says they have been to Chick-fil-A for breakfast "quite a few times. The people at Chick-fil-A, they know us," he says.

"This morning," he says, "we woke up and I knew we were going to be late anyhow...I decided to get him dressed and do our Chick-fil-A day today.  It's one of the few things me and him do together as a daddy-and-son thing."

He describes how Cooper was dressed and on the floor with his toys, in front of a cartoon they play for him.

The detective asks questions about Leanna's schedule with work.

2:25  Harris knocks on the door again.  "Excuse me?"

2:23 After several quiet minutes alone in the interrogation room, Harris knocks on the door.

2:20 Stoddard has left the room.  The jury watches video of Harris alone in the interrogation room. Harris paces the room, breathes heavily.

2:02 Harris says he and his wife have been married eight years and have a good relationship.  He says the forward-facing car seat is in his wife's car.

1:58 Harris: "When can I talk to my wife?"  Stoddard says they're trying to get in touch with her.

1:50  Harris says, "His eyes were open halfway. He wasn't breathing.  He didn't have a pulse."  He mentions somethinig about "Every medic training I've ever gone through tells me ..." something.

"I lost it. I started screaming, I started yelling.  I was just freaking out. That's when you guys arrived.  I tried to frantically call the day care and tell them his mom was en route to get him...don't let her leave," he says.

Stoddard asks him if he called 911.  Harris says other people did.  He says he made two calls--one to the day care, and another trying to call his wife.  He describes how an officer told him to get off the phone and "I probably cursed at her, because I'm losing my mind."

Stoddard asks Harris if he got anyone on the phone, and Harris says no.  Stoddard says, "because they heard you talking on the phone with somebody when they walked up." Harris says he didn't talk to anyone.

1:40 Det. Stoddard enters, searches Harris, who tells him to "Do his thing." He explains that he has some work experience with law enforcement in dispatch.  He reads and signs his Miranda rights.

In answering bio questions, Harris spells out information to the detective in military/police phonetic letters.

Harris details his day with Cooper. He says they have breakfast at Chick-fil-A 2-3 times a month.  He describes how he put Cooper into the car and strapped him in: "I gave him a kiss, he gave me a kiss."Harris says he and some work friends went to lunch and that they were planning a movie later.

He says he was driving down Akers Mill Road, looked right to make lane change and glimpsed Cooper from the corner of his eye and "lost it."

"I pulled in, I pulled him out. And for like a total of two--an eternity...I attempted CPR," says Harris.

1:33   In the video, Harris paces the room, crossing and uncrossing his arms.

1:28  The video shows Harris standing in the interview room alone, leaning against a wall, still breathing very heavily and visibly shaken. He sits back down, then stands up again.

1:25  Harris breathes heavily and sobs with his head down on the interrogation room table.  In court, his eyes close as the video plays.

1:22 Video shows Ross Harris waiting in the interview room at Cobb police headquarters. He is visibly upset and begins crying. "Oh God!" he is heard saying.

1:14  Prosecutor says he would like to provide a written transcript of the interview with Harris. Defense attorney Maddox Kilgore objects to the written transcript, arguing that the video can be heard. Stoddard says the written transcript says "inaudible" when the audio is unclear.

^^^from the above article:
"3:22 Prosecutor Chuck Boring begins questioning Det. This was about an hour and 15 minutes after he'd been sitting in the holding cell."

Has it been said what was on the Publix receipt or when it was dated/time stamped? I haven't been able to follow as closely as some of you and am curious why Ross felt the need to get rid of a Publix receipt.

"Boring said the Harris case will hinge on the deception with which Harris carried himself before and after police responded to reports that his child had died.

Harris, for instance, told coworkers that day that he would go to lunch if someone else drove. By lunchtime, Cooper had been in the back seat of Harris' vehicle for hours."

Hi Mylife,

During the interrogation when the detective was trying to establish a timeline of the events on that particular day, Harris told him that he had lunch at Publix but omitted a "small detail" about having been taken to Home Depot by his coworkers after lunch to purchase light bulbs, and that he later put the light bulbs inside the car where his son slowly died a horrible death.

In my opinion, the light bulbs were a pretext for him to be able to "check" on Cooper. I believe he wanted to get rid of the Publix receipt because he wanted to prevent the detective from finding out that information. Ross Harris insisted that leaving Cooper in the car was not intentional.
