Another girl missing. Her mom's boyfriend was the last to see her. Mom's boyfriend lives with Hailey and her mom. The bio dad and his 16 year old son live across the street. She apparently went missing on the way to a sleepover at her friend's house, but the friend said that there was no plan in place and Hailey never arrived. Blood hounds reportedly traced scent to local motel. Reward offered. Nancy grace had bio mom and bio dad on program Tues 1/4. Praying she is found soon...

Below is an update on this 9th day of Hailey's disappearance. Sad that she was classified as a possible runaway for so many days. The list of things LE are doing now seem to be things that are done within the first days of a "missing person" classified case. I hope she did just run away, but it doesn't feel like she left on her own will...

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- Now into the ninth day of searching, five different agencies and all sorts of tools are being used to help find 13-year-old Hailey Dunn.
Texas Rangers have been at the missing Colorado City teen's home all day collecting evidence.
Rangers spent a considerable amount of time collecting evidence from a shed in the home's back yard.
Authorities tell us in order to issue an Amber Alert, there must be evidence of an abduction, which could be why they're collecting evidence nine days after the teen disappeared.
Also Wednesday, we spoke to a family member, Hailey's uncle, who says he was given a polygraph test. Hailey's father, Clint Dunn, tells us, he was also questioned by the FBI.
One key player hasn't been seen or heard from since early this afternoon; Billie Jean Dunn, the mother of Hailey left her house with Texas Rangers and hasn't been in contact with family members since, according to her son.
Some local residents even took to the streets themselves this afternoon to look for the missing 13-year-old.

I too hope Hailey is found soon. We also have a 16 y/o girl from Union County NC who went missing in the Baltimore area. She was visiting her half-sister after Christmas.

Even if she left willingly, it doesn't mean she left safely. Why do the police often forget that? Sickos cultivate these relationships and draw these children into their web.

Good point Maat. Even if it was appropriate to consider her a possible runaway, her family and friends have assured LE that there was no sign of trouble or her wanting to leave and no history of running away. So, why didn't the police seize the computers and phones right away to see if she had been in secret contact with someone? They are searching all Hailey's communications now - hope it leads to her and that she's still alive....I don't blame LE for focusing on the family and the best friend, but they could have been investigating other possibilities at the same time.

Colorado City, TX—The boyfriend of Hailey Dunn's mother has refused to take polygraph tests pertaining to the disappearance of the missing 13-year-old and hasn't been seen since Wednesday morning, according to members of the Dunn family.
Hailey’s older brother, David Dunn, told KTAB's Priscilla Luong that Shawn Adkins had refused to take two polygraph tests Wednesday. According to a report from the CBS affiliate in Midland, Adkins signed the paperwork to take a third but then refused to take it and left the building.

The Texas Rangers have yet to confirm or deny these developments being reported by family members.

On Wednesday, Texas Rangers searched the home occupied by Billie Dunn, Adkins, Hailey, and David.

Thursday morning, David Dunn told KTAB News his mother was sleeping inside the family's home after spending the evening at the law enforcement center.

According to Billie Dunn, Adkins spoke to Hailey at 3 p.m. on December 27. Hailey said she was headed to her dad's house, located just across a field, then to a friend's house to spend the night. She never showed up at either location.

Bloodhounds tracked Hailey's trail Friday to a motel located near her home.

According to the Colorado City Record, crews went out on horseback and foot Wednesday searched wooded areas out the outskirts of Colorado City.

The Colorado City Police Department tried to issue an Amber Alert three times, but with no evidence of an abduction, Hailey's case failed to meet the criteria, according to Pete Kampfer, City Manager of Colorado City

"Of course as soon as we get that evidence, and get closer to that, on issuance of an Amber Alert, we're going to be right on top of it," Kampfer said, speaking on behalf of the CCPD.

The reward has grown to $25,000 for tips that lead law enforcement to Hailey Dunn.

I personally don't put much weight into lie detector tests; they are wrong nearly 40% of the time according to research statistics. Nervousness, personality characteristics, medication, polygrapher bias... can contribute to a wrong results. Mom's boyfriend is said to have been cooperative to this point, but I am wondering why all of the intense focus back on the house he lives in with Hailey and her mom during the time he was with LE. Then mom is escorted by LE to the station and gone for several hours. Then bio dad says he thinks Hailey has been abducted and he will be hitting the interstate to look for her "as soon as he gets his vehicle running again". Odd statement - anyone can get a hold of a car if they want one; I'm sure a rental agency would even donate one if asked (great advertising opp). Personally, I don't think he should hit the interstate anyway; he is too emotional and probably exhausted - he could end up hurting himself or others. But, I still thought the statement was odd. Could be the exhaustion and feeling of helplessness spurred the statement. It is confirmed that Hailey's mom and uncles have taken polys, but I couldn't find confirmation of polys to her bio dad (though he reportedly was interviewed by FBI) nor her 16 year old brother, nor her best friend. Lot's going on after days of delay...

Very interested in finding out who Hailey communicated with (phone and computer) for the days and hours leading up to her disppearance....

After hearing all I have about polygraphs, I would probably refuse, too. I hope he had nothing to do with it, but the polygraph info means nothing to me anymore. If he did anything, I hope they get all the proof they need to do whatever they want to him, but I hope they are looking elsewhere, too.

NG uses present tense language as in story telling. This is commonly used for dramatic effect. It is not something we would expect to hear from a witness or someone personally involved. When someone uses "story" like reporting, it can be a signal of distance (not emotionally invovlved) but when it is from a witness or suspect, it is to be noted as unreliable.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Somebody took her. She`s mine and Clint`s daughter. God gave her to us. We want her back.

Note that the "we" comes after the introduction of "Clint" which is significant. This indicates a cooperation between mother and father. When the "we" comes before the introduction of a name, it is often an acutely bad relationship and sometimes even a signal of motive in a missing person's case.

COLORADO CITY — Law enforcement officials continue to chase leads from evidence collected Wednesday from missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn’s home.

A helicopter search for the 13-year-old middle school student who has been missing for 10 days started about noon today.

About 4 p.m., the helicopter landed in a field of brush near 21st Street. Authorities spent time searching the wooded area south of Interstate 20.

Earlier today, Pete Kampfer, city manager and spokesman for the Colorado City Police Department, said the air search came after authorities discontinued a foot search for Dunn along the Colorado River on Wednesday.

Dunn apparently was last seen by her mother’s boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, who said she told him she was going to a friend’s house. The friend said she wasn’t aware of any such plans.

Kampfer said the investigation was progressing..

The Colorado City Police Department is still pursuing what they are calling a large quantity of tips concerning a missing 13-year-old.

Hailey Darlene Dunn was reported missing to local authorities Dec. 28 by her mother after the girl did not return home from a sleep-over at a friend's house, police said.

Police distributed several alerts through various state and national missing children's databases in the early stages of the search, but have been denied requests for an Amber Alert on Dunn's case three times for a lack of viable information.

Hailey was featured on the HLN Network national cable show "Nancy Grace." The show devoted most of the entire hour to the case of the 13-year-old Dunn, who disappeared on Dec. 27.

Grace spoke to experts about missing children’s cases and grilled Hailey’s mother, Billie, and her father, Clint Dunn.

COLORADO CITY, Texas (CBS/KOSA) What began as a small-town search has become a statewide investigation as central Texas girl Hailey Dunn remains missing more than a week after her sudden disappearance.


The 13-year-old cheerleader from the community about 75 miles west of Abilene was last seen on Dec. 27, after telling her mother's boyfriend she was spending the night at a friend's house. However, after questioning, police learned that the friend had no idea Hailey was coming over.


The Texas Rangers and Colorado City police have searched Hailey's home and surrounding areas. According to CBS affiliate KOSA, rangers were seen carrying garbage bags from her house into their squad cars.

A small Texas town is upset that the state is refusing to issue an Amber Alert for a 13-year-old cheerleader who has been missing for more than a week.

The Colorado City Police have requested the alert three times since Hailey Dunn, a middle school student, was reported missing Dec. 28 by her mother, Billie Dunn.

The girl was thought to be spending Monday night at a nearby friend's home, but did not return home the next morning, the police said. The friend later said she was not expecting a visit from Dunn.

The cheerleader headed out around 3:15 p.m. on Dec. 27, first going to her dad's house and then supposedly to the friend's house.

The mother said she met Shawn Adkins on myspace, she also stated they both failed polygraphs.

I hope they find her safe. These children should never be considered runaways from the beginning. I believe Hailey was gone over 30 hours before they even realized she was never at the friend's house.

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- Search helicopters and billboards are now being used by law enforcement officials and family in the search for missing Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn.

Thursday also marked the first day back at school since the Christmas holidays for Hailey's eighth-grade classmates at Colorado Middle School. With orange ribbons tied around nearly every tree on campus, the school day took place without 13-year-old Hailey.

Counselors were on hand at the school Thursday to help students deal with the absence and disturbing news concerning Hailey.

Search authorities also said the reward for returning Hailey officially stood at $15,000. Officials said they had erroneously reported the reward as being $25,000, apparently because some of the money was pledged but yet not donated. Nevertheless, new billboards put up Thursday announced the reward as $25,000.

Cali, those similarities are eerie.

I was listening, not watching, the news last and when Hailey's mom stated they both failed the polygraphs, it was also stated her and the boyfriend were told the other had failed before they each took their test.

Hadn't seen mom's bf speak before last night's episode of Nancy Grace. There were just a couple of very brief clips of him saying "I could never do anything to that little girl" (I automatically flashed back to Misty Croslin talking about Haleigh Cummings). He also said he just wanted her home. He seemed to be almost smiling and completely unaffected. Maybe that's how he always is, but I'm glad LE is looking hard at him. Last person to see Hailey, got in a fight and got fired the same day, seemingly glib attitude... I don't care about his poly results, but the other factors bother me. So glad the Texas Rangers are involved and they are searching and seem to be investigating those close to Hailey, and the possibility of an unknown person's involvement simultaneously. Hailey's mom seems very genuine to me and confused and heartbroken. Hope she didn't unintentionally put her girl in harm's way - nightmare...

Update: Search Parties Will Go House-To-House In Colorado City

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- Search parties will be going house-to-house knocking on doors across the northern side of Colorado City Friday afternoon.

The searchers will be canvassing the entire area surrounding Hailey Dunn's northside home, starting at the city limits and sweeping through neighborhoods, asking questions of residents and searching for any information about missing teenager Hailey Dunn.

Residents in Colorado City are being asked to join the search. Volunteers are being asked to gather at the Mitchell County Courthouse in Colorado City at 2 p.m. to create search parties to conduct the search across the northern portions of the city.

The volunteers will join the efforts of 12 law enforcement and missing child agencies, including the FBI, that have combined efforts to work on the case of the missing Colorado Middle School student.

Hailey's mom first said that her bf came home from work at 3 p.m. and that was the the last time Hailey was seen, Nancy Grace 1/3. Then the next day on Nancy Grace she stated that she had since learned that he hadn't been at work that day; he'd had a fight with someone he didn't get along with and either quit or got fired and then went to his mom's for the day. He returned to their home around 3 p.m. and that was the last Hailey was seen. I'm looking for the transcripts now and will post shortly.

BILLIE DUNN: I don`t even know. I just know he didn`t get along with one or two of the co-workers.

BOARD: This was about 3:00 o`clock on Monday, December 27th, that the boyfriend, from what we know, came home. That`s where he met with Hailey, at his home. COLORADO CITY, Texas -- The reporting of rumor, innuendo and misrepresentation seems to be a part – sadly – of the unfolding story surrounding missing teenager Hailey Dunn.
Despite statements to the contrary by people involved, Sparky Dean, senior trooper of the Texas Department of Public Safety, told KTXS on Friday that no one has been told whether they have passed or failed a polygraph test.
This comes despite the statement made on national television by Billie Dunn, Hailey's mother, that she and her former live-in boyfriend Shawn Adkins had both failed polygraph tests. She made this statement on live television Thursday night on HLN's "Nancy Grace."
Told of Dean's statement that no results of passing or failure were pronounced, Billie Dunn twice reasserted her position: She was told there was "deception indicated."
The misunderstanding of what did and did not occur stands as an example of the enormous challenges of news reporting in the middle of an ongoing investigation, during which assumptions and misunderstandings exist – and are sometimes reported to the public.
Furthermore, KTXS has learned over the past several days, that other family members have made various conflicting and unconfirmed claims – declaring, at different times, that at least four different people have failed the polygraph tests.
Yet another member of the extended family added an assertion Friday morning to KTXS News that Adkins "had been cleared" of any wrong-doing.
Such assertions, assumptions and misunderstandings seem to occur in a fluid, ongoing story that is not yet complete.
Another assertion made on the "Nancy Grace" show Thursday night stated that the Billie Dunn's home was searched on Wednesday for the first time. Officials on Friday pointed out that the home has been searched three times since Hailey's disappearance on Dec. 27.
Experts have long known that journalistic coverage of breaking news during an active investigation is a difficult assignment. Some in the news media, in a competitive environment, will rush to release scraps of information – occasionally before the facts are confirmed.
Kenneth Pybus, media law specialist and journalism faculty member at Abilene Christian University, said part of the problem comes from the tension that exists between differing roles and responsibilities of those involved.
"One of the challenges is that you have competing interests: the sources involved, the media and the law enforcement," he said. "The media are trying to quickly put out information to the public. Law enforcement is trying to find and protect evidence, see that justice is served and, sometimes, protect privacy.
"The media often frustrate law enforcement, and law enforcement often frustrates the media," he said. "And both often frustrate the sources that are involved in the incident."
Nevertheless, he said, journalists "have a responsibility to be as accurate as possible. In the end they can only report what they've been told. Sometimes they wind up repeating false information."

A possible break in the case of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn came today as a member of a civilian search party found a pair of sunglasses and a knife-cover in a creek north of the city.

Midlander Holly Jenkins spotted the knife-cover in Morgan Creek in Dunn, Texas, a small town north of Colorado City.

Jenkins reached into the water and retrieved the cover before placing it on the ground along the wooded shore area.

San Angelo woman mobilizes to help search for missing girl

SAN ANGELO, Texas — A former Colorado City woman living in San Angelo is trying to get together a group to search for Hailey Dunn, a 13-year-old girl who went missing on the afternoon of Dec. 27.

Last seen in Colorado City, the teenager has been the object of an intensive search, with law enforcement entities and volunteers combing the area around Colorado City.

Colorado City is on Interstate 20 about 75 miles north of San Angelo.

Authorities said Dunn, who went missing the afternoon of December 27, was expected to visit her father and then spend the night with a friend. Her mother, Billie Dunn, reported her daughter missing the following day when it became clear she hadn’t made it to either location.

Melissa Jo Walker, now of San Angelo, said her plan is to car-pool to Colorado City, coordinate with the existing search team and work their way back to San Angelo, searching the areas between..

"We're still hoping to find Hailey alive somewhere," said Senior Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Sparky Dean.
That was the underlying message during a news conference Friday afternoon in Colorado City concerning the disappearance of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn.

"We're looking at anybody, we're looking at everybody," said Dean. "We aren't focused on one person or one or two people. There's no smoking gun out there."

Dean urged for patience from the public as it concerns locating evidence or pinpointing suspects.

The reward offered for information leading to the safe return of Hailey Dunn continues to grow.

Non Uniform Law Enforcement teams are canvassing the neighborhood around Hailey’s home conducting interviews asking for assistance in locating her. There are about a dozen groups consisting of two officers. These contacts are more focused than the original contacts.

Lamar Sign Company has donated more than a dozen digital billboards around the state to show Hailey Dunn’s face and description. Vinyl billboards are planned also.

This is an ongoing investigation. Law Enforcement Agencies are continuing following up on interviews and leads into the safe recovery of Hailey Dunn.

We are asking anyone that may have information, no matter how large or small to call the Colorado City Department at 325-728-5294. Interested people can also go to a web site to get up to date information. www.coloradocitytexas.org

Also available is 1 800 “THE LOST” (1 800 843 5678). This is a number for National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

Additional resources are being sought out on an as needed basis. More agencies and officers are in Colorado City and behind the scenes to assist. The task force is continuing to grow as officials seek specialist in certain fields.

We will attempt to host a Press Release at 10:00 A.M. and 3:45 P.M. each day at Colorado City Hall. This is the building to the east of the Courthouse located at 185 West Third Street.

I have a feeling the boyfriend is involved. The mother says one thing and then in the next second she says something else. On CNN- HLN they were talking about the mom saying she did not pass the polygraph test. The news anchor and the reporter from a media source in the Tx. area said they have worked closely with law enforcement over the years and LE does not tell you if you passed or not. They said they found the mom's claims odd. They said they had no confirmation from LE if she passed or not.

Hailey's Mom Back Home After Speaking With Investigators

Colorado City, TX— The mother of missing 13-year-old Hailey Dunn returned to her Colorado City home late Friday evening after reportedly giving a statement to investigators.
KTAB cameras were rolling as Billie Dunn left her home to visit with Texas Rangers shortly before 6 p.m.

Dunn told KTAB's Tiffany Tatro she gave authorities another statement and was given the option to speak with a grief counseler.

Billie Dunn was joined by Hailey's father Clint Dunn outside the home after she returned. Both declined to do on-camera interviews. The couple did, however, wish to express frustration about not being kept in the loop regarding the investigation.

When asked whether they had anything they wanted to say to the public, Hailey's father spoke out.

"Don't forget, just please don't forget (about Hailey) until we bring her home," Clint Dunn said.

Earlier in the evening, authorities took away one of Billie Dunn's vehicles as well as an X-Box from the home. Law enforcement told Tatro they were looking for any clues regarding Hailey's disappearance. The vehicle is expected to be taken to professionals to be inspected.

ITA - LE sure seems to be focused on the bf and there are more than the usual inconsistencies coming out early on.

I think LE probably did tell mom that her bf failed the poly. He's gotta be their most likely potential suspect at this point:
--He is pretty young (different ages listed in the media - somewhere between 25 and 30),
--He allegedly had an altercation and terminated his employment the morning Hailey was reported missing,
--Hailey wasn't crazy about him, he's the last one to see her...
He may be totally innocent, but circumstances put him in the hot seat for now.

I think LE does not suspect Billie - she is the one that has been fighting for more LE attention and she comes across as very genuine and crushed. But, I do think they suspect her of unintentionally covering for her bf; in denial mode:
--She was inconsistent about bf being at work vs. at his mom's on 12/27. She didn't correct the error the next day when Nancy Grace summarized the situation; it wasn't until Nancy asked her directly more than half way through the interview that we found out about the work altercation. That's a huge point, imo - where was the last person who saw her on the day of the disappearance - no petty detail.
--IIRC, Billed confirmed to Nancy that she'd taken a poly on Monday and then Tuesday said she and bf had not taken one and had been rescheduled for Wednesday because of prescription med use.
--When Nancy asked her what the work altercation was about, Billie said she didn't know.
--When Nancy asked her where bf worked, Billie said he didn't work.
Just seems like Billie has been very forthright when answering any questions concerning herself and the general situation, even when not favorable to her. But, when it comes to the bf, she seems to be shielding him.

I don't think Billie has any direct knowledge of anything that happened to Hailey or who is involved. But, it's possible she is used to taking care of her younger bf. She works 12 hour shifts and he isn't working or blows his job because he doesn't get along with someone. Possible that she's always protective of him and wants to see the best in him (and it would be unbearable to consider that Hailey may have been hurt by someone she brought into the home). I think LE wanted to separate them to pressure and focus on him without Billie unintentionally enabling him. Even if she didn't want to kick him out after failing, bet Hailey's dad and her brother wouldn't stand for him coming back to the home... Anyway, if the bf is innocent, the distance should make it easier for LE to clear him - no distractions or guards.

I have so many questions about this case.... More searches tomorrow; praying hard that Hailey is found..

There is something so bad wrong!why would mother not check or call friend mother to see if it was ok for sleepover!when you dont lie,your story should be the same.I have such a heavy heart about this case,it just doesnt add up..Red flags from the start.
