It's been a roller coaster of events since Hailey Dunn went missing back on December 27, 2010. With Tuesday's developments of human remains found in Big Spring, many are left with the question - Is the search for Hailey Dunn over?

Below is a timeline of events leading up to the discovery of the unidentified body that many are speculating could be Hailey:

December 27th, 2010: Hailey Dunn goes missing. Shawn Adkins, Hailey's mother's boyfriend, is the last to see Hailey. He tells authorities Hailey was going to go to a friend's house, but she never made it.

It looks like her body was dumped out in the wide open! It had to be that it was just dumped there. Probably put in a freezer until then. The skin was still intact and her body was partially frozen so that means it was not out in the elements to decompose.

As authorities scoured the area near a Big Spring manufacturing plant where human remains were found Tuesday, the family of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn waited to hear more.

"I'm actually feeling dead. I don't know what to feel," said Connie Jones, Hailey's grandmother.

Jones has been waiting more than 14 months for her granddaughter to come home.

Human remains found in Big Spring have been sent by an FBI team to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office in Fort Worth.

There has been speculation that the remains are those of missing Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn, who disappeared on December 28th, 2010. Colorado City is in Mitchell County about 40 miles east of Big Spring.

Hi, Sherry! Long time; no see.

Per numerous reports from mainstream media in the Big Country area (that area of Tx is referred to as the Big Country), the body had been buried and part of the remains were exposed. It is reported that the remains were in a plastic bag. Part of the body was mummified. For your info, in January and February, 2011, there were several weeks of extreme cold temperatures in that part of TX.

None of the mainstream media articles I've read indicated the body was probably put in a freezer. Did you read that in an article or is that your opinion?

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- Questions regarding where missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn's parents are began surfacing as soon as news broke of human remains found near Big Spring Tuesday.

KTXS has learned Hailey's father, Clint Dunn, is currently working on an off-shore oil rig and was unable to make it back to the area this week. Clint Dunn is expected to return next week, though.

His family, including wife Naomi and their baby daughter, are living in San Antonio at this time.

Lack Of Rain, Mummification May Actually Help Experts Identify Remains

ABILENE, Texas -- The process of identifying the remains that were found in Big Spring Tuesday afternoon is underway.
The remains have been described as partially mummified, which may be helpful in aiding with identification.

“The mummification of the soft tissue is going to occur surrounding where the environment is very dry,” said Lauri Martin, a forensic anthropology instructor with the University of Texas system.

December 28, Billie Dunn reports to Colorado City police that her daughter is missing.

Searchers begin looking in the Colorado City vicinity for Hailey.
The story goes national as Hailey's mother Billie appears on the Nancy Grace Show on January 5th of last year.

Just in: Big Spring judge describes appearance of skull

A Howard County justice of the peace on Thursday described seeing the remains discovered Tuesday near the Big Spring McMahon-Wrinkle Airport shortly after being called to the scene.

"I saw a skull," Quail Dobbs, Howard County justice of the peace, said. "There was a little hair, and it appeared to be dark in color. I couldn't tell the length."

"It wasn't real big," he said, when asked about the size of the skull he saw.

Two days after human remains were found in Big Spring, there are still few answers.

The discovery has sparked speculation they could be those of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn, but authorities said it's too early to tell.

"I mean, we're just going to have to sit back and just wait and see what happens over the next two to three weeks, as far as the investigation that's done by the medical examiner's office," Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs said Thursday.

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- KTXS has received conflicting reports from family members as to the whereabouts of Hailey Dunn's father, Clint Dunn.

On Thursday the mother of Clint's second daughter and step-sister to Hailey, Naomi told KTXS Clint was working on an off-shore oil rig.

Naomi told KTXS the family relocated to San Antonio where they were waiting for Clint to return sometime next week, and then planned to return to the Big Country to be near the on-going investigation.

KTXS also contacted Clint's mother, Connie Jones, but she said she no longer speaks to Clint. Nevertheless, she said that a friend of hers told her she had seen Clint driving in Snyder.

When I read the other day that Clint Dunn was working on an offshore oil rig, I thought it was great that Clint, at his age, finally got off of his butt and got a real job.

Per this article, it appears to be a conflict as to where Clint Dunn is living. Some time ago, there was an indication that he moved to Houston, Tx.

A recent article stated he is living in San Antonio, Tx and now this article states he's been seen riding around in Synder.

Billie Jean Dunn, Shawn Adkins, Clint Dunn . . . . I just don't know about these folks!

If the remains are Hailey Dunn, I think Billie Jean will throw her boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, under the bus and then probably claim the reason they were living together in Austin was "to keep him close" because she thought he might have something to do with the disappearance of Hailey.

Hhmmm . . . . kind of like Ron Cummings marrying Misty Croslin "to keep her close!"

All of the above . . . just my opinion!

I think Clint's mother saying that Hailey felt left out because of her mother's and father's new loves might have caused quite an upset between the two. I sense that she didn't care much for Clint's new wife and that may have caused a big rift. JMO

ABILENE — When it was determined Friday that human remains discovered in Big Spring this week were that of a male, new hope might have sparked for some families of missing people.

The announcement, however, briefly flattened hope for supporters and family members of Colorado City teen, Hailey Dunn, who was 13 when she was reported missing Dec. 28, 2010. At the time of the discovery Tuesday, speculation of closure to the Dunn case quickly spread throughout the region and then went national.

John Young, who represents the missing teen's mother, Billie Jean Dunn, told the Reporter-News that the Dunn family remains hopeful the girl will be found.

BIG SPRING, Texas -- It has been determined the remains found in Big Spring on Tuesday are not the remains of Hailey Dunn. The remains are of a male victim, according to Big Spring police.

Det. George Oliver of the Big Spring Police Department, who is attending the autopsy, relayed to Big Spring officials Friday that the examination revealed that the remains were of a male.

Law enforcement officials say it could be some time before pathology reports are back and investigators have more information on the human remains found March 20 at McMahon-Wrinkle Airpark.

According to Sgt. Tony Everett, public information officer with the BSPD, the investigation is ongoing.

“It could be three or four weeks, or it could be two or three months. There's really no way to know how long it will take to get results back at this point,” Everett said. “All we can do right now is wait for the reports.”

A DNA sample has not been collected on the humans remains found in Big Spring last month, officials with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office said Monday.

It's been a year and a half since Hailey Dunn went missing from Colorado City but one local group isn't giving up hope that she'll be found safe.

Hope for Hailey volunteer Susie Griffith and others are trying to keep Hailey's story alive.

"We sat down, we decided what can we do to get the word out further," Griffith said.

After brainstorming ideas, they decided on creating a printable flier sent via email.

Griffith needs to ask Billie Jean Dunn and Shawn Adkins where Hailey's body can be found.

Also, she should have asked the the Lead Investigator, with the appropriate law enforcement agency, to send an alert to various LE instead of e-mailing direct. Oops, that won't work because they would not have done it. They know that Hailey Dunn is not somewhere in another state or TX . . . alive and well. They know that Shawn Adkins and Billie Jean Dunn hold the key to getting this case resolved and bringing Hailey home.

When LE receives the e-mail, I would think LE hit the Delete button. Those type of things come from the investigating LE and are official.

As a mother of a "missing child", Hailey Dunn, what has Billie Jean Dunn done to keep Hailey's name out there? What has she done in recent months, weeks, days? Nothing except cover for Shawn Adkins!

A prayer vigil and balloon release is scheduled 7 p.m. Aug. 28 to celebrate the 15th birthday of Hailey Dunn, who has been missing from Colorado City since December of 2010. The event will be held at “Hailey’s Hope,” the park across from her former residence at 1804 Chestnut St., in Colorado City.

Dunn is described as five feet, one inch tall, with green eyes and light brown hair and was last seen wearing blue sweat pants, a light colored t-shirt and flip-flops.

She was 13 at the time of her disappearance on Dec. 27, 2010. She has been missing for 20 months.

Birthday vigil for missing teen Hailey Dunn set Saturday

The last time Connie Jones celebrated a birthday with her granddaughter, Hailey Dunn, it was a milestone. Hailey was becoming a teenager.

Two years later, Hailey's 15th birthday likely will pass without celebration. Her birthday is Tuesday, and it has been 20 months since her mother, Billie Jean Dunn, reported to Colorado City police that her daughter missing.

A group of Big Country residents who faithfully maintain hope for Hailey's safe return have organized a prayer vigil at 7 Saturday to commemorate the teen's birthday. The event will be held at the former home of the Dunn family at 1804 Chestnut St. in Colorado City.

COLORADO CITY - The search for the story behind Hailey Dunn's disappearance is making some progress.

A private investigator has now agreed to take on her case for free.

"Hope for Hailey," a group behind Hailey's search made the announcement earlier this week.

The investigator, Mac Sanford of Houston, met with Hailey's mother on Wednesday in Austin and has already started gathering information on the case.

Colorado City teen still missing after two years

For Billie Jean Dunn, Thursday was an excruciatingly painful day because it marked two years since her daughter Hailey Dunn went missing. Billie Jean Dunn reported her daughter missing two years ago today.

“I broke down all day long,” the mother of the teen said of how she spent Thursday, recalling the day her daughter went missing. “It doesn’t get any easier. It has been worse lately especially because of the holidays.”

In the two years since her disappearance, investigators from Colorado City, Mitchell County, the Texas Rangers, the Department of Public Safety and the FBI have followed countless leads but to no avail. And now, the FBI is officially the lead investigating agency in the case.

“We are still coordinating with Colorado City P.D., the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers,” said Katie Chaumont, the spokesperson for the FBI. “This is an ongoing investigation but we are still working closely with local law enforcement.”

Earlier in October, Billie Jean Dunn announced that she had hired Houston-based private investigator Mac Sanford to help with the case after there were reported sightings of the teen. But she has since cut ties with Sanford.

Billie Jean Dunn said Adkins is among those the FBI continues to investigate.

“They are not able to clear Shawn (Adkins),” she said. “But there are others they are looking at, too.”
