Dec. 27, 2010, was the last time anyone saw Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn. In memory of the missing girl, a group of people met at her home Thursday afternoon.

There have been hundreds of searches for Hailey in the last two years, but not a single sighting.

Snyder - The family of Hailey Dunn are on their way to Snyder this afternoon.

Spokespeople for Hope for Hailey tell CBS 7 that the family will be in town by tonight.

They offered a statement saying, "We ask everyone to come together and pray for the family of whoever this body belongs. We are praying that it is not our Hailey. We appreciate the outpouring of kindness and prayers over the past two years."

Investigators from local and state law enforcement are still processing a crime scene where a body was found in Scurry County over the weekend.

SNYDER — A team of FBI agents including forensic specialists are assisting Texas Rangers in collecting evidence near Lake J.B. Thomas where a badly decomposed body was found Saturday.

Texas Department of Public Safety Senior Trooper and spokesman Sparky Dean said state, federal and local authorities continued Monday to comb the area near County Road 3236 and FM 1298 to collect pieces of skeletal remains that were be scattered at a site filled with cactus and mesquite.

“It is rough terrain,” Dean said. “(The remains) appear to have been there a while and it’s not like anything is intact.”

Thanks for the updates. I seen this on another site but was so tired when I got up I could not figure where to look. I work 10 pm to 7 am which I love but I had extra days off last week and of course I was normal those days on my sleep pattern. But I will watch this topic until they have some answers to who they found. If not Hailey I pray someone will know where their love one is and pray this have enough evidense to arrest someone. Prayers for this family for sure.

I pray that the waiting for answers if this is Hailey or not does not take long. This family deserves not to be in a holding pattern not knowing.. I hope that if this is not Hailey that the identification to the family is prompt. Praying for justice for whoever this was.

Family, Friends Speculate Snyder Remains Could Be Hailey Dunn

Speculation is swirling over the remains found in Scurry County on Saturday.

Hailey Dunn was last seen in 2010 roughly twenty miles from where the body was discovered. She was thirteen-years-old when she went missing, and her case was never solved.

Her family and friends said they think these remains could be her.

"It could be Hailey because it's been about two years that would be what her decomp would be," a woman on Hailey Dunn's behalf said.

Human remains found near Snyder sent to Texas forensic center

The quest to identify human remains found scattered among rough terrain in Scurry County progressed Thursday when the remains were sent to a Texas forensic center, an FBI spokeswoman reported.

Katherine Chaumont, public affairs specialist with the FBI’s Dallas division, did not specify to which forensic center the remains were sent.

The badly decomposed remains were discovered Saturday in a remote area near Snyder. Local, state and federal authorities gathered evidence over several days before the search was called off Tuesday evening.

Hailey's Mom Suspects Ex-Boyfriend's Involvement in Teen's Disappearance

Missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn's mother tells NewsWest 9 she is now suspicious that her ex-boyfriend had something to do with the little girl's disappearance. The news comes as speculation still looms over whether or not the human remains found Saturday in Scurry County are those of Hailey Dunn.

Mother Billie Dunn and Shawn Adkins moved to Austin after the little girl went missing back in late December of 2010, but a lot has changed in their lives over the past few months. Billie tells told NewsWest 9, she ended the relationship, which he didn't take well.

"[He] started [calling] and harassing me and scaring me. I've just seen a darker side of him," Billie said.

She said that after they split, he moved back to his mother's house in Big Spring. We went to his mother's home looking to speak with Adkins. Family was inside the house but nobody would answer the door. Nearby neighbors claim Adkins went out-of-state a few months ago for work.

SCURRY COUNTY, Texas - Authorities continue to work to identify human remains found in a remote area of Lake J.B. Thomas.

Many wondered if it could be a break in the case of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn. Right now, authorities aren't saying. In fact, they still have not released the gender or age and said the body was badly decomposed.

Who could it be?

We checked with the Department of Public Safety for counties near where the body was found.

Randie, thanks for posting the info from SA.

Personally, I don't think it is the man who found the remains. Any one could go on a blog and act as he/she is the one who found the remains. I think that person is "yanking PH's chain."

The Hailey Dunn case, as many other cases, in the Big Country area of TX are under investigation.

This person would have been advised by LE (FBI and Texas Rangers are investigating the Hailey Dunn case) to not discuss the remains. If this person is LE, I can not imagine him going on a blog and commenting/discussing the remains or the area where found. That is very unprofessional.

I have certification by the police academy in my area re Citizens on Patrol. It is a very intense 4 month course. We interacted with LE in our area including 5 to 8 hour "ride alongs." This class is taught by LE in our area. We were well trained in how LE handles investigations including role play.

In our area, LE are not allowed to go on a blog and discuss a case or cases under investigation. In fact, they are not allowed to comment about cases on blogs on the Internet.

If this guy is the guy who found the remains, he has created real problems for the Prosecutors who would prosecute the case (if the remains are Hailey Dunn and if charges are brought against an individual or individuals one day). The person's credibility "went south" by posting on a blog. I can not imagine any one who claims to be LE jeopardizing the prosecution of a case whether it is Hailey Dunn or not.

I have read at a site where this guy claims to be LE but is a guard at a federal prison.

Guards are not LE. When they leave the institution where they work, they leave their 'radio' which is not on a ban with LE. Their radios are for the institution in which they work. Guards are not allowed to wear a gun within Texas prisons or federal prisons within TX.

In fact, LE in TX can not carry their guns into county jails - the section where inmates are housed. NO guns allowed. They have to check their guns into a secured lock box before entering the area where inmates are housed.

I have noticed comments on various boards, including media comment boards, where folks can not believe it is taking this long to identify the remains.

There are several cases in TX where remains were found scattered and all parts were not found. It has taken 2 to 3 months for positive ID. In some cases, the remains are never identified. It also depends what condition the remains are in.

Some one made a comment elsewhere that LE knows the ID of the remains but are not disclosing because they are "making their case." That is the most absurd thing I've ever heard of. I do not know of one case in TX where LE knows the identity of a victim and does not notify the next of kin (family).

I am a fact based person and I really don't believe "stuff" folks write regarding this poster unless it is supported by factual info. To say some poster is the man who found the remains does not work for me. Now if the FBI or Texas Rangers said through evidence they gathered, the person posting on SA is the man who found the remains, I would believe it.

I prefer info coming straight from the "horse's mouth." I prefer info from LE or mainstream media that accurately report info from news conferences held by LE or interviews with LE.

As we all know, today there are some mainstream media reporters that are anxious to "break" the story and as a result may report info inaccurately.

In my area, the reporters use the "rule of thumb" to verify the story with 3 reputable sources (when warranted) if info not from LE.

When things are reported in our local newspaper or radio news, I know the info is correct.

It is well known that Billie Jean Dunn despises (perhaps hate) Peter Hyatt in a big way. Who knows . . . one of BJD's supporters could be posing as the "man who found the remains" on Peter's site to make a fool of him and the posters there. One just does not know.

Every one is entitled to his or her opinion. The above is my opinion.

BIG SPRING - The remains found in Scurry County last month still haven't been identified. The finding has sparked rumors of the skeleton possibly belonging to missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn. KTXS in Abilene spoke to Curtis Lloyd about his discovery.

A Colorado City police chief held a 3 p.m. "meeting" this afternoon, alerting city authorities that the Scurry County human remains were identified as Hailey Dunn, the teenage girl who has been missing since December 2010.

In a video taken by KVMC/KAUM radio broadcaster Cat Geiger and posted on Facebook, Colorado Police Chief Roy "Tinker" Owens said "We have possible suspect information, but at this time, nothing that I can really put out."

Stacie Campbell, a Hope for Hailey volunteer, told the Reporter-News that Hailey Dunn's family is headed to Austin, Texas to be with Hailey's mother Billie Dunn and brother David.

Campbell, a Coahoma resident, said she was one of the first people Billie Dunn called after authorities told her the human remains found in Scurry County were those of her teenage daughter, Hailey, who was reported missing Dec. 28, 2010.

SNYDER, Texas (AP) — Remains found in a remote West Texas location last month are those of a 13-year-old middle school cheerleader missing since December 2010, an attorney for the girl's family said Friday.

Texas Rangers informed the girl's mother, Billie Jean Dunn, earlier in the day that the remains found near Snyder in Scurry County last month were those of Hailey Darlene Dunn, the daughter she had reported as missing on Dec. 28, 2010, attorney John Young said.

I am so glad to hear that Freckles is keeping folks updated re precious Phoebe! What a little "jewel."

I have not been able to be here for a while. I got an alert earlier today re Hailey Dunn from a contact in the Big Country area but I was not able to post any info until late afternoon.

I am glad that Hailey's remains have been found. To me, it was apparent that she was deceased early on in the case. Law enforcement knew that the stories of Billie Jean and Shawn "just did not add up." It was interesting to read the Affidavits way back when.

Many folks criticized the Texas Rangers and various sheriff's offices in several counties in the "Big Country" area. Texas law enforcement were on top of this case more than some folks realize!

As a native Texan, I think the Texas Rangers are the best of the best. These law enforcement agencies were fortunate to have the assistance of the FBI.

Hopefully, the various Texas law enforcement agencies will continue to work together with the FBI and perhaps a case can be made and an arrest or arrests will be forthcoming.

It’s not over yet, but it’s a big step in the right direction.

That was the general sentiment of the small crowd of people who gathered in front of the Dunn family’s former home at Chestnut and 18th streets in Colorado City on Friday evening, a little more than an hour after law enforcement officials in nearby Snyder made a jaw-dropping announcement at a news conference.

Scurry County Sheriff Trey Wilson and other officials said human remains found March 16 near Lake J.B. Thomas in Scurry County were positively identified as those of Hailey Dunn, the Colorado City teenager who had been missing since December 2010.

The investigation into her disappearance is ongoing, Wilson said. No arrest has been made.

He said the remains were sent to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification for DNA analysis. On Friday, the Scurry County District Attorney’s Office received confirmation that the badly decomposed remains were those of Hailey, who was 15 when she was last seen shortly after Christmas 2010.

COLORADO CITY — After Friday’s confirmation that remains found in Scurry County were that of Hailey Dunn, the soft cry here seemed to have transformed from “Hope for Hailey” to “Justice for Hailey.”

Many have hoped for the teen’s safe return, but some took comfort during an impromptu prayer vigil in front of her former home was that Hailey has come home.

“She has been with the Lord all this time,” said friend and neighbor Charlene Mayes, who couldn’t help but weep as she talked about the girl who had been missing since December 2010 and would have turned 16 in August.

Grandmother Speaks Out After Hailey's Remains Were Confirmed

SCURRY COUNTY - The announcement by authorities that Hailey had finally been found was brief and it left a lot of questions. Hailey Dunn's grandmother was at the press conference and as NewsWest 9 found out, she has no doubts as to who she believes caused Hailey's death.

The media was not allowed to ask questions during the news conference. However, Jones feels she may know who's responsible.

"I think that Shawn Adkins has something to do with it. I really do. It's the first thing that came out of my mouth when (Billie) told me that Hailey was missing. I asked where the hell is Shawn and did he had anything to do with it. She said 'no' and she 'didn't think so.' The things that Hailey use to tell me about the man. She didn't like him, she didn't trust him," Jones said.

"All we have to do is get justice for Hailey," Hailey's Aunt, Freda Radcliff, said.
