I am curious as to the "family civil atty" who is present.
Any guesses on that?
Made my day with the comment of, "her shackles making a racket."
:bounce:Let's see JA doing some jumping jacks with those "leg weights" she is now showing... !
maybe she could do some headstands...

Monday June 24 the George Zimmerman trial gets underway and we are so lucky to have crime analyst Professor Sheryl McCollum. Sheryl will be at the trial every day reporting the inside scoop that no one else has.
We welcome back our old friend KatieKoolady. Although the Arias hearing only lasted 43 seconds KatieKoolady has a ton of scoop for us. She was at the hearing and will tell us about Jodie's new way of entering the courtroom and what is going on behind the scenes.

Re: Jodi Arias--Trial for the murder of Travis Alexander #23
She did have some smiling moments, little witch. But she also was staring down the ex-jurors, too. She acts like she's at a party except with the jurors, whom she surely loves to try to intimidate.18thcenturylady wrote:I still totally disagree with those jurors being at this meeting. I don't care if they voted for the DP or not. Their job is done. At this point they are spectators in the process just like the rest of us, and can follow the progress on TV. I do NOT think they deserve special treatment or being allowed to be privy to a meeting involving future proceedings in the new penalty phase of this trial. MOO.
I am royally miffed that all of the sudden we NOW see Hodi in the stripes and chains. What has changed since she was found guilty of murder one, AND of cruelty? Nothing. She was allowed to go to the FIRST penalty phase in a silk blouse and no chains. IMO, that was wrong, wrong, wrong. She should have been brought into court for the first penalty phase just as she was today. I think that would have reminded the jurors that she was a dangerous, psychopatic, convicted killer, and NOT a "victim" or a "frail young woman"!
Geesh!
There is just no consistency in this trial. She should have had to give her statement to the jury dressed in prison stripes. She is NOT the victim, and it is obvious that at least one juror lost sight of that, and even had the temerity to refer to the REAL victim, Travis Alexander, as "the dead guy"!
I hope that we do not have a repeat of Hodi smirking in her chair during the penalty re-do, again being allowed in street clothes. If anything, the fact that then the courtroom will be packed with more people should definitely dictate that she be brought in in prison clothing and with guards.
Both hubby and I discussed this and we both came to the same conclusion that we feel the fact that Jodi was in civilian clothing prancing around the courtroom with her power point presentation during penalty phase number 1, rather than in prison clothing and shackles sent a subconscious message---the wrong one---to all present.
I also feel exasperated with JSS at this point, dragging this out again and again. Her deference and special allowances to the defense during the trial was one thing, but now that JA has already been convicted, I thing it is appalling that Juan, Flores, and mostly the Alexanders have to suffer more fruitless delays and emotional turmoil, and all because Jodi, Nurmi, and Wilmot are doing nothing more THAN PLAYING GAMES.
(Oh, and PS, I saw a video of Jodi being brought into court yesterday and she is looking around and SMILING, not looking very "pissed" to me.)
The rest of your post, about her clothes and how she pranced around with her little power point, I wanted to bold and put in red. Well, maybe I will, LOL. There - that's better. Because I'm hot under the collar that she was allowed to do that. I agree, it let those jurors think of her as a little waifey victim instead of the heinous hosebeast she is. Poo.

Except for the fact that once she was convicted, and she was in the penalty phase, she should have had to wear chains and stripes while she put on her little power point "I can help people" nonsense, since she was a convicted murderer at that point. Instead, she goes in looking like missy librarian again and that was NOT cool. If someone else already mentioned that, please forgive me. It's raining, it's early in the morning, and thoughts of JA have put me in a foul mood, LOL.Pianist wrote:18thcenturylady wrote:I still totally disagree with those jurors being at this meeting. I was thrilled when Jodi was in shackles and prison garb. I too was thinking it would have been great if she had them on for the whole trial but I read on another thread today that it is because when a person has not been convicted the Supreme Court said it is too prejudicial because the person is to be presumed innocent until found guilty. Well she was found guilty so I guess these are her clothes now. It made sense to me as to the reason. I am glad the post was there. It cleared up my thinking.

LOL. Glad to see you are still into commenting on style after the penalty phase. So rewarding, and we need these little reminders to stay au courant, LOLFreckles wrote:Did anyone notice how nicely the silver-ish waist chain accessorized her gray and white striped outfit? The theme was carried out in her wrist bracelets. The ankle bracelets, however, while she might have felt a need for them for her own security, seemed a bit repetitive.
Perhaps, changing the links on the bracelets to a snake pattern or even a rope design would have enhanced the overall appearance of her outfit.
I was hoping to see some printing on the blouse. Maybe something like, "CONVICTED" would have been nice. (This younger generation is so into wearing printed messages on their tops they often look like walking billboards. ) CONVICTED would have been a pleasant compliment to the tee shirt she "designed" that read, "SURVIVOR."
JA needs to get out in the sun just a wee bit. All those hours staying indoors have left her looking rather wan. A touch of color on the cheeks and the lips would have enhanced her features; perhaps, a nice blood red would have suited her? (Blood red. Hmmm. Wasn't it Bobby who was into the the blood red of the vampire? I wonder if he ever spoke of a fantasy of driving a stake thru a heart.... )

No! I'm streaming the GZ trial on his site (Mediate). BK is one of my most favorites, way back from Court TV. Wonder why? I had been looking for her in the courtroom when I saw Jean Kasarus (sp). Wow. She is one hard working Lady, IMO. ~~CUcarlakay wrote:hi everybody..just read a tweet from Dan Abrams saying Beth Karas is no longer with HLN..anybody know wth the deal is with that?

I, too, am glad to see that "The Lady" is still commenting!! IMHO, JA is now CONVICTED and should arrive in the courtroom just as she did for the hearing. She should not get anything special. Nothing. Personally, I liked all the chains and shackles and the sounds they made in the quiet court room. I noticed the female guard kept a hand on her back and also noticed the two rather large guards who accompanied JA at a fairly close distance. (Is that just protocol for someone charged with first degree murder? JA really wasn't going anywhere with all those chains.)renatae wrote:LOL. No more street clothes for this convicted felon. It's the PENALTY phase -- life or death no matter what she is wearing. But that's just me.~~C

IIRC HLN announced staff cutbacks a while ago (may have been April) and Beth was interviewed. She said at the time that she would still be around but not doing Court TV. I hope we haven't seen the last of her, she is an excellent reporter, good lawyer and very ladylike. Go Beth!

Thot of JA when I read this.
Arizona killer who asked for speedy execution found dead in cell
" ...The court had just upheld his death sentence following a mandatory appeal, and in the letter, Hausner wrote that he did not want his lawyers to pursue any further appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
"They want to do all they can for all my appeals, and I appreciate their efforts, but it is my choice and I want to waive all the rest of my appeals," Hausner said. "I want to be served with my death warrant and to be executed as soon as possible. ..."

Gee, I wonder at what number of the stab wound's she inflicted on Travis not have a definition of "especially cruel"? How about slitting his throat? Shooting him just above his right eyebrow? Legal smeagle! The only one who has anything "vague" is the murderer and even that is a lie.
Regarding the second paragraph I do believe I remember that a jury did finding that she did have aggravating factor's to give her capital punishment. Am I wrong?

So do away with the injection, and let Travis's brother and sister shoot her above the right eye brow, stab her front and back 27 times and cut her throat. She doesn't have to have the injection. The way I see it , an eye for an eye, or a stab for a stab or a slit throat for a slit throat.

Thank you Pianist! I asked LE why I couldn't do to my estranged son in law, exactly what he did to my daughter, and I was told that would be extreme cruelty. But, then he was only convicted of Manslaughter. I don't have much respect for the justice system.

Sitemama, I agree with you. Would these psychopaths think twice before committing these evil crimes if they knew whatever they do will be done next to them? And if they'd just go ahead and make the same evil choices all over again knowing their punishment would be no more, no less, than what they do unto others...Well then, I don't understand why such demons should be allowed such special considerations. It's so easy to theorize about utopian ideals of 'fairness'. How about if their punishment is determined by the victim's family? If they want to choose forgiveness and leniency, fine. That should be their right. But if they want an eye for an eye, a stab for a stab, why oh why is that considered so barbaric? I just don't know what to think when our system, as great as it can be at times, fails so miserably.
I love hearing your thoughts & insights, Sitemama. I agree with Pianist. Your thoughts are indeed fabulous. Just wish even more people could hear you.

Hi Kiki!! I agree with you that the victims loved ones should have final say on leniency or death but really dont believe normal people could inflict the exact manner of death upon their loved ones killer that the killer chose to inflict upon their loved one without keeping their sanity.
I am not for lethal injection..or spending years on death row.. I want the ropes brought back..hang em friggin high is what I say..immedietly upon conviction they should be escorted to the hangmans noose and be done. Imagine the money that would save.

I am tired of babying the killers.
Clean out the prisons, please!
IMO, ALL appeals need to be expedited and over within 5 years of conviction. And the trials NEED to take place ASAP===go to trial within 6 months. (I would prefer trials within 3 months while evidence and witnesses are still fresh...)
Oh. I would like EVERYONE arrested to be DNA volunteered...provided the authorities can be accountable for not "misplacing" or planting that DNA. And rape kits NEED to be processed ASAP so the parties can GET ON with their respective lives...

I agree Freckles. Our prison's and jail's are overrun with repeat offenders because they know they wont have dire consequence's, so they just repeat time after time.Freckles wrote:I am tired of babying the killers.

If anyone so much as whisper's boo to the offender then not only is the conviction overturned but they can civil sue.
I'm a firm believer in strict consequence's. If I ran that system I'd say if you do the crime you'd better be prepared for losing ALL of your right's and there would be all this 4 to 5 year's of waiting to start a trial. A year would be my limit. Also defense lawyer's would be required to back up their alligation's of the lie's they want to put on victim's or they'd find themselves behind bar's as well.
Oh Boy, I'm on a roll and could go on and on about the benefit's criminal's get from roaming around in jail to commisary buying. Law's that need to change to benefit everyone not just the lawyer's and the rich. Etc, etc. etc.
I have also thought that DNA should actually be taken at birth for criminal activities that may happen in the future. It would save a lot of people's lives if repeat offender's weren't given the chance to be repeat offender's. Look at how many rapist's have gotten away with it cuz they can't prove that person was the one and the next thing you know that person has kidnapped a child and not only raped them but murdered them as well.
There are a lot of people out there who do not like Judge Judy because of the way she treat's people. The thing of it is, is that if she were sitting in a court of law instead of a staged court as a Judge she wouldn't be allowed to do that. However, I love how she can do that on her show. I wish all Judge's could do that in a court of law.
Sorry, I'm all over the place and rattling on, I do tend to do that.

But, Judge Judy really is a judge, and the cases she rules over are actual cases. The only difference is the planiff and the defendant get paid for allowing the case to be heard publicly. Therefore, if one has to pay a fine, they actually have the money to pay it with, but the innocent party receives more money than the guilty party.
The only difference is neither party has a lawyer and must abide by whatever Judge Judy rules.

Hi Freckles and everyone,
Yes, I do agree, and this happens not only in the US. In France, most of the worst killers stay less than 15/20 years behind bars... Many people are fed up with that, just as I am !!

Oh yes sitemama, that's a given. I was just trying to explain that the show is for entertainment purposes so Judge Judy can do what she want's as her decision's are binding and can't be appealed per preagreement's to be on the show and they also pick the most ridiculous cases as well. However, I've seen Judge Judy interview many time's with Larry King and she truely feels the way she feels on her show. She think's we're too soft on criminals as well and that is why I like her so much. I must say though that I've had time's when I didn't agree with something she has said or done but I have to remember that the show is whiddled down conciderably for a half hour show.

JA might have gotten ice cream!
Now, was there one scoop or two?
Chocolate or vanilla?
Any toppings?
(If she had saved her breakfast banana she might have had a split!)
Phoenix, Las Vegas bake in scorching heat
(undated but printed on 6/29/2013)
"DEATH VALLEY, Calif. (AP) — Scorching heat blistered the Southwest on Saturday, where highs between 115 and 120 degrees were recorded for parts of Arizona, Nevada and California.
Forecasters said temperatures in sunbaked Las Vegas shot up to 115 degrees on Saturday afternoon, two degrees short of the city's all-time record.
Phoenix hit 119 degrees by mid-afternoon, breaking the record for June 29 that was set in 1994. And large swaths of California sweltered under extreme heat warnings, which are expected to last into Tuesday night — and maybe even longer.
The forecast for Death Valley called for 128 degrees Saturday, but it was 3 degrees shy of that, according to unofficial reports from the National Weather Service. Death Valley's record high of 134 degrees, set a century ago, stands as the highest temperature ever recorded on Earth. ..."
" .... In Phoenix, Joe Arpaio, the famously hard-nosed sheriff who runs a tent jail, planned to distribute ice cream and cold towels to inmates this weekend. ..."

The DNA here in Ontario is now collected on anyone convicted of a criminal offence. It is now the first thing ordered by a judge. I guess they are attempting to tie up old cases.... or at least be able to point a finger at new crimes. An infraction for a driving offence can also have DNA ordered. Anyone who has a criminal record also has to have their record available when attempting to get car insurance because they are deemed "high risk" drivers even if the record has nothing to do with driving or a vehicle.
Agreed that it takes too long for the judicial process... should be quick while witness'/evidence is fresh. And appeals should be quick... such a waste of Taxpayers money to keep them so long... and so difficult for the families of victims to start to put things into a more neutral place.. attending court during appeals only brings everything back to the painful edge. Most likely not said the way I would like to have expressed this but having a difficult time to be politically correct and express my disgust with how the rights of criminals appear to outweigh the rights of the general population and more importantly the rights of the family of the victims. No worries....there is no ice cream for Hodi! JA is in the Estrella Jail. Sheriff Joe ordered ice cream and ice water towels for the Tent City inmates at the Durango St. jail. It is outside and the inmates literally live in tents. High risk or violent offenders are not housed in Tent City. They put inmates serving time for DUI, drug offense, etc. in the tents.
Links about Tent City here in Phoenix.

It is sizzling hot here in Phoenix this week!!! So, I don't mind that Sheriff Joe is having a bit of mercy for the inmates in the tents. Just last week he treated the male inmates to pizza and gatorade after they came to the rescue of a female guard who was attacked by an inmate. I thought that was an appropriate gesture by the Sheriff because the inmates could have just ignored or participated in the attack instead of rescuing the guard. The link contains jail footage of the inmates rushing to help her.

Hope you all are finding ways to keep cool and enjoying your summer. I am ready for this heat wave to move on.
