JMO but there are numerous reasons why someone would act in this manner. Self induced medicating with street drugs could be one... the appearance of them in the court room for arraignment could also be caused from not sleeping well ...

I am not saying this person was diagnosed with mental illness, but you do have to be outside of the norm to do something like this! I think that it is very easy to want to somehow justify why we aren't allowed all of the information (ie: cameras in court) or to find some explanation that soothes our mind as to why this could not be someone we know that would act in such a GRIEVOUS manner. again just some things I am thinking and my opinion/thought process only.

I agree, there are many reasons why Holmes could have appeared this way.

However, one thing is for sure, and we'd all agree, he didn't appear as previously reported as some tazmanian devil spitting at everyone.

There's "more" to this than we've heard about.

It's said that the weapons and ammo Holme's used cost about $20,000.

Where did that money come from?

How did he have that kind of money?

Was the money supplied to Holmes by someone else?

The psychiatrist apparently did report Holmes and that he could potentially be a danger to others.

Some of the comments below this article are really harsh.. My understanding from working in a field where confidentiality was paramount ... is that in order to report we required that there be an immediate and immanent danger to self or others. As well we were required to be able to state in specific terms why it was immediate and immanent. Did they discuss a specific plan, did they have the means, did they have a timeframe in which to complete the plan etc... Just can't be a hunch or a gut feeling or based on some blanket statement... ie: if things at my work don't get better I am going to go all postal! That kind of a statement is considered faulty thinking, an expression of frustration/anger, or attention seeking behaviour; It is not proof of immanent or immediate danger and therefore not reportable. If he was becoming more anxious or irrational it is still not meeting the criterion for reporting.

An example from personal experience is a young man who was manipulative and violent. He was a pedophile and had attempted to suffocate his victim. Because he was considered "not criminally responsible" he was in a care facility. He was never allowed anywhere without two staff accompanying him. He told his psychiatrist that if the opportunity ever existed he would kill one staff and then the other because we prevented him from his behaviours. He had a specific plan on how he would accomplish this, it was reported to our staff unofficially. It could not be put on record, could not be reported to the agency and could not be reported to the police. The psychiatrist felt the need to protect the staff but without a specific timeline was unable to do anything official. Just sharing what has been my experience and therefore what colours my opinion!

The treating Psychiatrist was in a tough spot without any specifics she really could only discuss it with her peers as a consult situation. JMO

The Denver Post later reported that Dr. Lynne Fenton, a member of the threat-assessment team at the University of Colorado, Denver, was so disturbed by Holmes' behavior that she shared her concerns with members of the school's Behavioral Evaluation and Threat Assessment team. The Post, citing an unnamed, but credible source, said no further action was taken.

Fenton shared her concerns in early June, approximately six weeks before Holmes went on his alleged shooting spree. No action was taken, reportedly because Holmes was in the process of dropping out of school as a Ph.D. student in neuroscience. He officially withdrew on June 10. The shooting occurred on July 20.

The school is going to do everything to cover themselves, think Kyron Horman.

The woman, who helped get this program off the ground, Fenton, was treating him.

She reached out to fellow BETA members to convene....BUT....(Pee Wee Herman said it best- "Everyone has a BIG BUT") it never happened since "James Holmes began the process of dropping out of school".

IF Holmes failed his oral exam, on June 7th, and they said (Who is "they") Holmes dropped out of the CU Ph.D Neuroscience program on June 10, and, Holmes lost his access to secure areas of the school June 12, according to the CU spokeswoman (which is again, an un-named source). What did Holmes have access to in those two days prior to the shooting in the "secure areas" of the school?

WOULD James Holmes have dropped out if he passed this oral exam?

Here's where it gets confusing~

It's been said this was "months in the planning"- was his hard work and education all for nothing since he was planning in advance to massacre all those people?

Was there not enough time prior to Holmes "dropping out" of school to justify getting an emergency conference together? Apparently, there weren't enough imminent danger signals to notify the police- otherwise a call would have been made.

(At the very least, if the conference was able to convene, based on the concerns of Fenton, perhaps the group would have be able to short circuit Holmes alleged plans?)

I'm not suggesting it is Fentons fault, lets be clear.

The responsibility of Holmes actions are just that, the actions of James Holmes who will be held accountable in a court of law.

It is interesting, despite a gag order, what information actually leaks out.

No explosives, and yet, the above video, it shows bombs being detonated.

The HINT of SAFTEY FIRST was because I didn't notice anyone wearing PROTECTIVE GEAR.

Well, I wish Val was here to explain a few things. sigh. Have to go to my sources now.

If those explosives could have "blown up a multi-story apartment complex) why didn't the concrete blocks shift?
Why is everyone calmly standing about? Why are there vehicles so casually parked? And why didn't they carefully lift the items out from the back of the truck instead of over the side as if it was an empty box?
No one had o any safety gear at all.

Thanks Calypso for the 911 tapes, boy they were hard to listen to. I am so impressed with the dispatch keeping her calm while the police were trying to secure place and getting help for the people shot. I don' t know if people give enough credit to the dispatchers.

I don't understand why the police would say there was no other shooter, if their was in fact two. If their was another shooter then there would be prints on the second gas mask and knife if there was a knife. This would not go so well at trail if there are different prints then Holmes. The only way I would think that their were two shooters and they are not reporting this is because their's still an investigation going on.

I did read the homeland security report and found it quiet disturbing. This report will be in my mind when I go to the show. I wonder if Holmes show how got a hand on this report and though he may get away and they would look for terrorist.

So they say. I will tell you, this is mighty suspicious IMO.
"THEY" aid robot's were sent in; pics were taken; evaluation was given based upon the pics. Ok. Then surely THEY would have no objection in sharing the pics? Or maybe, telling us more about the type of explosives, the quantity, etc. Heck, we heard ALL about that in OK City. And Waco. Etc.. Why are they not telling us now?

Because they are not talking, IMO, something is hinky here.

I have a weird feeling about this case...I think this guy is too smart for his britches and knows how to "act" like a looney toon...Watch him get committed...

This has been bugging me.
Usually, when a shooter or killer lets go, isn't it usually (or always?) directed AT those who offended, upset, disappointed him?

Look at Columbine, the McDonald's shootings, even in the south the activities of the KKK. Gang-bangers might take out innocents but they are trying for a specific target.

It just doesn't fit a profile. If the school evoked negative feelings would he not have directed his activities toward THEM?
