JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jurors heard opening statements and several prosecution witnesses Thursday afternoon in the closely-watched retrial of Michael Dunn on a first-degree murder charge in the death of 17-year-old Jordan Davis.

WJXT reports Assistant State Attorney John Guy said Dunn fired three shots out his car window into an SUV with teenagers inside after exchanging words over loud music, then got out, into a crouch and fired another seven shots as the Dodge Durango pulled away.

If not for the quick thinking of Shawn Atkins, Michael Dunn might never have been arrested for killing 17-year-old Jordan Davis.

The Jacksonville man was in his truck at a Southside Gate gas station when the shooting occurred and was quick thinking enough to memorize the plate number on Dunn’s Volkswagen Jetta leaving the parking lot. He walked into the Gate, scribbled the plate number down on a brown plastic bag and gave it to one of the cashiers.

But Atkins has not had much to go right for him since then, a fact that was readily apparent when he took the stand Friday to testify against Dunn in his first-degree murder trial.

Dunn was in a suit, Atkins was in a green prison uniform and shackles.

Friends of Jordan Davis testify in Michael Dunn retrial

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Some of the last people who saw a Jacksonville teenager alive testified Friday at the retrial of the suspect charged with first-degree murder for the teen's death.

...Atkins testified that he saw Dunn fire shots at Davis and his three friends inside an SUV while standing in a crouched down "police" stance.

...Tevin Thompson, 19, was in the front passenger seat, directly in front of Davis, inside the SUV.

...Thompson admitted the four were playing loud rap music as Dunn parked next to them. Thompson testified Dunn's car was so close to their SUV he could not open his door.

An interesting side note, according to Smith: “A 400-pound white schoolteacher who was sitting by me really hated [Corey’s] humor, and made the joke that ‘she would have a hard time proving to a court that I am fat; there would still be reasonable doubt.’” That guy made it onto the jury, Smith says.

The live stream has finally started, but everyone is in a sidebar, including Michael Dunn.

The jury is not present.

Judge now admonishing cameraman for turning on camera before Judge gave him permission to. Apparently another potential juror was in courtroom and was filmed, which upset the judge.

Live stream blocked again.  Now ready to proceed.  Jury is entering the courtroom.

One juror has been excused and is replaced with an alternate.  Witness testimony now resuming.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Court was delayed more than an hour Saturday morning in the retrial of Michael Dunn as the court reacted to an interview that appeared with a former potential juror. That man, Richard David Smith, gave an account of conversations with a man who did make the Dunn jury. According to Smith, the actual juror was highly critical of State Attorney Angela Corey.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Strong emotions, tears and a bombshell revelation from the former fiancee of Michael Dunn Saturday afternoon followed a dramatic morning session that saw the judge dismiss a juror and give strong words to the crew in charge of the courtroom camera.

Rhonda Rouer took the stand and started trembling and sobbing as she began to get into what happened on the night of the shooting.

The media coverage is significantly smaller, but once again, a good part of the nation is focused on Jacksonville.

...This time, reporters acknowledge there’s not much new in the trial. There are three new defense attorneys, who are taking a much different approach to questioning prosecution witnesses. But the information the witnesses give is pretty much the same. And national media outlets don’t want to reprint the same story.

I used the court one and watched a few hours of the trial.
When the coroner/ME showed the pics of the bullet thru the upper thigh and the exit wound.... well, that was very well documented. IMO, for that shot, the victim had to have been prone on the ground. That would mean he would not have been a threat to anyone,. Further, from the entry and exit wounds, it would appear he was shot from the back... Other words, he was retreating and not a threat to Dunn.
