This is really an excellent blog on todays court proceedings. He doesn't get into the debate over the jury instructions, but everything else is there.

Out of the 3 bullets, one was fatal, one was debilitating, and the other was neither fatal or debilitating. The fatal bullet entered Jordan Davis’ right side, perforated the rib cage, traveled through the liver, diaphragm, aorta, continued upward to the right lung, and ultimately exited in Jordan Davis’ arm pit.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After calling two forensic investigators and the medical examiner who conducted the autopsy on 17-year-old Jordan Davis' body to the stand Monday morning, prosecutors rested the state's case in the trial of Michael Dunn.

After the jury was dismissed for the day, Judge Russell Healey discussed with the lawyers on both sides the possibility that the defense could rest by Tuesday's lunch break, with closing arguments in the afternoon.

On this timetable, the jury could be deliberating the charges of first-degree murder, three counts of attempted murder that shooting deadly missiles into an occupied vehicle by Thursday. However, Healey admitted he might be overly optimistic.

Healey also discussed jury instructions with the lawyers, including the "lesser included" charges the jury would be allowed to consider. He said he would leave it up to defense attorney whether that would be called "attempted manslaughter by act" or attempted "voluntary manslaughter."

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jurors saw dramatic photos of the body of slain Florida teenager Jordan Davis Monday during the trial of the man accused in his killing, Michael Dunn, and viewed clothing Davis was wearing the evening he was shot to death.

Before Simons took the stand Monday morning, a judge asked those in the courtroom to refrain from emotional outbursts during her testimony.

Simons said Davis was killed by “multiple gunshot wounds.” Davis’ family remained in the courtroom as she detailed the three bullet wounds found in Davis’ body. One bullet, she said, entered the right side of his chest and punctured his diaphragm, liver, lungs and aorta.

The bullet wound that pierced Davis’ chest “would have been fatal in a matter of minutes,” Simons testified. Two other wounds pierced Davis’ right and left thighs near his groin, she said.

She showed jurors clothing Davis was wearing, showing the bullet holes in the clothing she said were consistent with wounds on his body.

Michael Dunn 'I have every right of self-defense'

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Michael Dunn, the man accused of killing Jordan Davis, is on the stand in his own defense.

"I have every right of self-defense and I took it," Dunn told the court during a cross-examination by Assistant State Attorney John Guy.

The man charged with killing Jordan Davis told jurors he asked the teens nicely in the red SUV to turn the music down.

"Can you turn it down, please?" testified Dunn. The defendant said he saw someone in the backseat slam what appeared to be a shotgun against the door.

"To my eye it was a 12 gauge," testified Dunn.

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (USA TODAY) -- The Florida man accused of killing a 17-year-old after a dispute over loud rap music testified Tuesday that he was taunted and felt menaced in the moments before the shooting.

But Michael David Dunn, on trial for first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder, said he drove off from the gas station after firing 10 shots at the SUV in which Jordan Davis was sitting because he didn't think anyone had been hurt. He didn't learn that Davis, 17, had been killed until hours later.

5:05 p.m. Update (by Andrew Pantazi): A police interview between Michael Dunn and Jacksonville Sheriff's Office detectives Marc Musser and Travis Oliver was shown as part of the prosecution's rebuttal.

The interview highlighted contradictions between Dunn's testimony in court today and what he told police the day after 17-year-old Jordan Davis was shot and killed.

Dunn told police he'd had one drink. Today he agreed with his fiancee that he probably had three or four. He clarified that he was counting those four as being the equivalent of one normal drink.

Dunn also told police that he shot Davis as Davis was leaving the vehicle. On the stand, he said he shot Davis as Davis was jumping back into his vehicle.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Prosecutors said in closing arguments that Jordan Davis didn't stand a chance, and called the shooting "target practice" for the defendant Michael Dunn.

Closing arguments began at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Prosecutor Erin Wolfson told the jury there was "no gun in the Dodge Durango," and that he fired "round after round" into the SUV.

"Ten rounds, 9 hitting the car," said Wolfson.

"This defendant went crazy," said Wolfson. "He shot to kill, shooting at point-blank range."

"This defendant was disrespected by a 17-year-old teenager and he lost it," added Wolfson.

Jury soon to get case of man charged with murdering teen over loud music.

JACKSONVILLE — Michael Dunn should be convicted of murder because he "went crazy" and systematically and methodically fired "round after round after round" into a Dodge Durango containing four teenagers, one of the prosecutors told jurors Wednesday in closing arguments in the highly publicized Florida trial.

"Let me be very clear. On Nov. 23, 2012, this defendant shot and killed Jordan Davis. There was no gun in that Durango. There was no stick. There was no bat. There was no lead pipe. There was no gun," said Erin Wolfson, assistant state attorney. "What was in that Durango was four teenage boys."

Wolfson told jurors Wednesday that Dunn's "blood started to boil" because of the vehicle-rattling "thug music" coming from the SUV, and he escalated the confrontation and fired in premeditated fashion because a teenager had disrespected him. Afterward, she said Dunn fled the scene, returned to his hotel, ate pizza, walked his dog and poured a stiff drink — without calling 911 or notifying anyone about the shooting.

"Those are the actions of somebody who intended to kill someone — and then realized what he did was wrong," Wolfson said.

Following Wolfson, defense attorney Cory Strolla told jurors that Dunn had a constitutional right to defend himself. Strolla said that the teens in the Durango had ample time to stash a weapon after Davis was shot.

"That truck was gone for 3 minutes," said Strolla, who then he turned to a courtroom clock and silently paced, counting down each minute until three elapsed.

Ohh, the judge has decided that he is going back and explaining it is a 20 minute video and they haven't yet seen it all.

He said he will take the court reporter back with him. They all agree on that.

If the jury decides, they may see it shortly--live in the court room, I think. :)

BBM - I think we should know soon about that.

I think the judge is hoping they will rest for the evening around 8 or 9 pm.

They say, ultimately, it is up to the jury; but I think they will let us know one way or the other.

So, we should know if it is safe to turn the feed off and close our eyes. :)

The jury want to see the whole 20 minute video; and they want to watch it tomorrow.

They have a computer back there with them, but they think it might not be that easy to play the video on it.

The judge says there is a software person on the jury, and he thinks they might know how to do it.

Anyway, it is looking like we won't get to see it. I agree with the judge--LOL.

I think the jury can figure out how to play the video.

It sounds like the jury is going to go to the hotel for the night, though.

I think a rest will be good for them. They have to be tired.

The jury sent the judge a note, which he just read:

"We have no results and will resume in the morning."

They are keeping all four alternates for one night, they might let a couple go tomorrow.

The jury will resume deliberations tomorrow at 10 am Eastern, but the judge wants all the attys and everyone involved there for 9:30 am.

Verdict watch: Michael Dunn jury watching surveillance video

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The jury in the Michael Dunn trial has resumed deliberations and are now watching the Gate gas station video, unedited and from unseen new angles.

The jury began deliberations Wednesday evening around 5 p.m. Three hours into deliberations, the jury asked to see the video. After a discussion between the judge, the jury and attorneys, the judge decided to end deliberations for the night.

Attorneys for both sides will be back in the courtroom at 9:30 a.m. to discuss procedures for the day.

Dunn faces one count of first-degree murder, three counts of attempted murder, and one count of throwing or firing a deadly missile. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.
