I find it interesting that JH had only $280 cash on his person following the shooting. I would have expected him to have more $ if he expected/hoped to survive the shooting and get away. JH expected that his apartment and belongings would have been destroyed in an explosion that he rigged so it is not like he thought that he could have anonymously escaped the crime scene and returned to his apartment. JH would have needed plenty of cash to get away and evade LE. IMO, this $280 fact is a good one for the defense. JH gave himself up to LE without incident so he must not have been trying for suicide-by-cop, yet he had little money to get away if LE had not responded so quickly. So, if JH was not trying to set up his own death and he was not prepared financially to escape then what was he planning? This does not seem at all rational or sane and, IMO, speaks to the defense contention of insanity. I think this is a really tough case on so many levels.

Snipped For Space By Me
Hi ya MyLife.
My Theory In Blue Under Yours
I find it interesting that JH had only $280 cash on his person following the shooting. I would have expected him to have more $ if he expected/hoped to survive the shooting and get away.
I would like to see a bank statement to see when he last accessed his account to see if we could figure out when he got the money out.
So, if JH was not trying to set up his own death and he was not prepared financially to escape then what was he planning?
I'm not sure at this point of course but I cannot help but wonder if he didn't expect that the cops or someone else would take him out (His planning was so methodical that I don't think he planned on his weapon/weapons jamming and he totally expected his place to explode in order for the cops to be busy there and his plans went to hell in a hand basket) but I just don't think he preplanned on surviving. His long term plan??? I just don't know. It's just an odd amount of money to me to have preplanned a destination. I'm really sorry MyLife but I really think he thought he'd be taken out one way or another cuz he even took pain killers in case he was hurt. He was hoping the pain killers would take the edge off the pain if he were hurt. I also think that the pain killers put him in a state of slow motion-ness if you will. You know how you feel when your on meds it makes you feel like your floating in a slow motion state? Plus the fact that he was spent by the time he came out of the theater and I have to think he probably felt like he was going to fall to sleep. I sure hope I'm making sense to you MyLife. I have to think that he may be sorry he took the pain meds cuz he wasn't able to function like he planned to you know? Had he been clear minded would have he been able to unjam his weapon/weapons and carry on wounding and killing more then he already had? And another thing that is just occurring to me is, was he seeing double because of the pain killers?
This does not seem at all rational or sane and, IMO, speaks to the defense contention of insanity. I think this is a really tough case on so many levels.[/quote]
[/I personally don't think he was insane at all especially after watching that little bit of interrogation tape today. He was in a drug induced funk right then if ya ask me.

Re: James Holmes: Colorado Theater Murder Trial
I appreciate your comments above. Gave me food for thought.
I think he either expected to not make it out alive (he was prepared to protect himself from pain, with the body armor and pain killers). Or, he knew there was no way out, and that he'd be apprehended and spend the rest of his life in prison and/or sentenced to death eventually. Wouldn't need clothes, money, etc. in prison. He certainly wasn't in a hurry to flee the scene, so it doesn't appear he had a get-away plan. And with flaming orange hair, he wasn't trying to be inconspicuous, either. His life was already over in his mind (no neuroscience career, no girlfriend, awkward social skills, etc.). I think he knew that act would be his final act before his life was over for real, one way or the other.
I don't think he was insane at the time of the shooting either. Way too much meticulous planning that started a long time in advance. It's not like he just snapped. I think he knew exactly what he was doing, and that what he was doing was wrong.
Just my two cents.

Re: James Holmes: Colorado Theater Murder Trial
@CP @OneWonders
I agree. I don't believe that JH snapped. There was an incredible amount of preplanning involved in this crime. I guess what really perplexes me is the seemingly complete lack of planning for after the shooting spree. He did exhibit some planning in taking a pain med to lesson the pain if he was shot or injured. However, if he had intended to be killed it would have made more sense to stay in the theatre and continue shooting with the weapon that was still functioning until LE arrived and killed him. I am glad he did not do that!!! Or, he could have drawn a gun on LE and they likely would have shot him. It would seem that he must not have intended a get-away because he only had $280. Yet, leaving the theatre and preparing to leave implies that he intended to attempt a get-away or at least to leave the scene of the crime. So, where could he have thought he could go on $280 with bright orange hair and not be caught. I guess my point is simply that for a crime that required so much planning there seems to be no real plan for after the crime. No clear plan to be killed and no clear plan to escape. Maybe the plan was simply to do his evil deed in what her perceived as a grand and shocking fashion (movie premiere massacre and a devastating apartment building explosion), become infamous, and spend the rest of his life in prison. Hence, the query he made on an online dating site, "Will you visit me in prison?"
So, yes, I believe the two of you are correct. It probably was as simple as you suggest. He figured his life was over figuratively and didn't really care much what happened after he carried out his act. I wonder how he truly feels about it all now?

Excellent observations and points, Mylife.
If he planned to be killed, I, too, think he would have continued. And, he wouldn't have needed the body armor, either, if his ultimate goal was to die at the hands of police (although I doubt that was his plan, but maybe at least his expectation, which goes to him knowing what he did was wrong). I don't think he planned on being killed. I don't think he planned anything beyond the evil deed. He was focused on the killing - that's all that mattered to him, IMO.
I think your comment about being infamous from his actions makes the most sense to me. No one else paid attention to him anymore (rejection from the school, GF, etc.). Maybe this is the only way he thought he could get the attention he thought he deserved (even with how warped that may be). The fact that he didn't appear to make a plan to flee says to me all the more that he knew what he was doing was wrong, i.e., not insane. He already knew there was no future for him.
Thanks for the reminder about the "visit in prison" comment. That again is a sign to me that he knew he'd end up there, confirming for me that he knew his actions were wrong. If he was truly insane at the time, why would he think he'd end up in prison?
Regarding how he feels now...he seems to be almost enjoying this trial. Swiveling back and forth. No emotional reaction to anything. I don't see how anyone except those truly evil could sit through that heart-wrenching testimony from the victims and the LE and Rescue personnel without feeling overwhelmed with emotions and tears, especially with being presented with how many people's live were affected by his actions. He adversely (putting it mildly) affected hundreds of people (82 victims, family, friends, coworkers, unborn children, school mates, PLUS the 129 responders, and their friends, family, and coworkers). Just appears to me to be cold and calculating. I've noticed him almost smiling a few times. It's almost like he's proud of how much damage he caused. Kind of like Julie Schenecker.
He may have been delusional about why he felt the need to do this, and what "benefit" it would provide, so I'm still not clear on his motive. But being delusional about the motive doesn't equal insanity, by the legal definitions. Mental illness does not equate to insanity.
Reminds me of Jodi Arias - gets pleasure out of inflicting pain on others, with no remorse whatsoever.

Re: James Holmes: Colorado Theater Murder Trial
@CP,
I'm thinking that you, I , and One are pretty much on the same page. Not insane and knew that his act was very wrong. I can't get a close enough look at JH to tell if he is having any reactions to any of the testimony. Of course, his DT said that JH now regrets the shootings, but, that is what they are paid to say. They also stated that JH is on medication and the way he presents at trial may be affected by the meds. There may be some truth to that DT claim. It's hard to say what goes on in the mind of someone that is capable of planning and carrying out the death and destruction of other innocent people. Sad, indeed...and yes, possibly shades of Arias, Schenecker, etc.

Hi Ladies, I just want to say how awesome I think you both are.
@MyLife I had forgotten about his "Will you visit me in prison" statement. Excellent point.
At this point I have to agree that he may not have had a plan after his unthinkable deed. However, if he did I still think a drug induced funk blew that all to pieces in a hand basket.
@AD Thank you for putting up the days videos and tweets. Your awesome too.

Court keeps Juror 737, a Columbine survivor, after he announces he knows a theater shooting survivor (Video)
By: Anica Padilla, Phil Tenser

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. - Following a fascinating discussion in the courtroom, the judge has decided to retain a juror who interrupted the day's testimony to announce that he knew a witness who was called to testify.
Juror 737, who also happens to be a survivor of the Columbine High School shooting, handed a note to District Court Judge Carlos Samour's staff after hearing that Alex Espinoza was being called to the stand. Espinoza suffered a graze wound to his left arm in the July 20, 2012 movie theater shooting.
According to Juror 737, Espinoza purchased items from his company. He also told the court that he met Espinoza after the start of the jury selection process.
Espinoza did mention the theater shooting case once, in passing, Juror 737 said.
Samour gave Juror 737 an unplanned 10-minute break to consider whether he would feel the need to explain or justify his ruling to Espinoza or his wife after the trial.
He answered that he did not feel he would have to explain his decision to anyone.

2 Jurors In Theater Shooting Trial Know Witnesses (Video)
May 6, 2015 7:37 PM
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (CBS4)– Two jurors in the Aurora theater shooting trial know witnesses in the case. That information halted court proceedings for a time on Wednesday.
The judge had to make a decision quickly on whether to keep them on the panel.
A female juror was questioned off camera by Arapahoe County Judge Carlos Samour after she indicated that she knew Maria Carbonell, a victim who testified a day earlier. Her son attends a school where the juror works.
