Susan Powell's Father-In-Law To Post Private Journals Online

The father-in-law of Susan Cox Powell, a 28-year-old Utah mother of two who vanished 584 days ago, said he plans to back up his theory that she ran off with another man by posting copies of her journals online.

"People don't know that there are two distinct sides of Susan. She was very ... kind of an open person in a sexual way ... with the opposite sex," Steve Powell, Susan's father-in-law, said on NBC's "Today" show this morning.

Steve Powell points to 2,000 pages of journals his daughter-in-law allegedly kept before she went missing -- journals which he said he plans to post to a new website that is launching this week.

A new lead in the nearly two-year-old case of missing Utah mom Susan Powell has investigators scrambling to Nevada, where they say they have a fresh lead that might help solve the mysterious missing person's case.

"We have received some information, a tip, that we're going to be following up on, and it's information regarding Susan Powell," said Utah's West Valley City Police Sgt. Michael Powell, who is not related to the missing woman.

"We will be in Ely, Nev., tomorrow with a team of detectives," he said.

Sgt. Powell declined to say whether they believe the missing mother might be dead or alive, or comment on the nature of the tip.

Ely, Nev. » The search for Susan Cox Powell has taken police here, where they say they will search the area Friday based on a lead in the missing West Valley City mother’s case.

West Valley Police Sgt. Mike Powell said investigators developed new information “fairly recently” they deemed substantial enough to warrant a full-scale search starting Friday morning. He characterized the new information only as “credible” and “important.”

Police are planning to hold a 10 a.m. news conference to discuss the search, which was expected to last all day and possibly extend into Saturday morning, said Mike Powell, who is not related to Susan Powell. White Pine County Sheriff Dan Watts said Thursday he knows little about the West Valley City investigation or where police will search.

SALT LAKE CITY — The nearly information-less press conferences held by West Valley police about their Nevada search for Susan Powell are prompting a lot of questions of their true intentions — including ones from Josh Powell. But one retired FBI agent has a theory on what police may have really been searching for.

"It just doesn't seem like they said anything. That's honestly what went through my mind," Josh Powell said in an interview with KSL Newsradio Friday evening.

"I actually thought that they were going to be looking in hotels, apartments, you know things like that," he continued. "That's what I was hoping they'd be looking for — for people; frankly, for Susan."

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah police plan to search the rugged mountains near Ely., Nev., on Saturday as part of a renewed search for a Utah mother missing since 2009.

Susan Cox Powell was last seen at her home on Dec. 6, 2009. Then 28, she was reported missing the next day when she failed to show up for her stockbroker job in West Valley City, Utah. She had been seen by friends at church and at dinner the day before.

Yes, that video is very irritating.

It plays every time I click on this page. I have to scroll up and click on it to Pause it or turn down the volume.

I notice there is one on another thread that does the same thing. Don't recall which thread.

If it can not be fixed, perhaps it is best to delete it and post the Link.

About 20 investigators from West Valley City and the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department served a search warrant on the home of Joshua Powell and his father in Puyallup, Wash. on Thursday afternoon.

Steve Powell said he was at work on the phone with his family when the search of his home in the small subdivision of South Hill began. As of 4 p.m. Mountain Standard time, Steve Powell was on his way home to see what was occurring.

“They haven’t even told us what they’re looking for,” Steve Powell said. “They’re victimizing us more,” Steve Powell added. “This is un-American.”

Ed Troyer, spokesman for the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the search.

“Yes we are at the Powell home,” Troyer wrote. He declined to provide details of the search warrant served on the home.

Per HLN, Josh Powell was removed from his home in Tacoma, WA. There are at least 20 Law Enforcement officers conducting the search.

Investigators from the states of Utah and Washington removed computers and boxes from the home of Josh Powell and his father Thursday.

Police said they were serving a search warrant and planned no arrests, but they said little else about the latest development in the 20-month disappearance of West Valley City mother Susan Cox Powell.

"There are things we’re looking for, specific items of evidence," said West Valley City police Lt. Bill Merritt.

Merritt was among a group of 13 West Valley City detectives who traveled to the Powell home in Puyallup, Wash. A trailer with West Valley City police decals was parked outside the home. Detectives from the Pierce County, Wash., sheriff’s department also were assisting.

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – It was deju vu for Josh Powell Saturday.

At the stroke of midnight, he abruptly left his Puyallup Washington home with his two boys in tow.

“He's on a camp out,” said his father Steven Powell. “It was a spur of the moment thing.”

Steven Powell said Josh first told him about it Friday night at around eleven. An hour later he said he and his two boys got in the van and went camping.

DELTA —The search for missing West Valley mother Susan Cox Powell continued Tuesday in an area near Topaz Mountain in Juab County.

West Valley police announced Tuesday they had "a team of investigators," along with sheriff's deputies from Juab and Carbon counties, conducting an investigation in and around Topaz Mountain west of Nephi and northwest of Delta.

"The police called us this morning and told us they were going to be doing a fairly extensive search. They didn't say what they expected to find," Chuck Cox, Susan Powell's father, said Tuesday.

Cadaver dogs were also being used in Tuesday's search.

Search for Susan Powell turns up human remains

Topaz Mountain • Police searching for Susan Cox Powell found human remains Wednesday but do not yet know whether they belong to the woman who disappeared almost two years ago.

Several cadaver dogs confirmed remains discovered just before 2 p.m. were human, said West Valley City police Lt. Bill Merritt. He did not know how old the remains are and would not say how intact they were.

Investigators ended their search of the area and excavation of the remains for the day at about 4 p.m. Merritt said it was getting too late for personnel from the Utah Medical Examiner’s office to travel and they will arrive Thursday morning instead.

Two detectives will camp overnight with the remains to protect the scene.

I hope these remains are Susan Powell. Her family needs to bring her home and hopefully an arrest of the person responsible for her murder can be charged with her murder, convicted and sentenced accordingly.

Justice for Susan Powell is long overdue.

Police resume desert work in search for Utah mom

DELTA, Utah (AP) — A federal anthropologist was headed to Utah's central desert Thursday to examine remains found by authorities during a search for clues in the disappearance of a missing mother.

West Valley City Police Lt. Bill Merritt said that because the remains were found on Bureau of Land Management property, federal officials must first examine the site before police can process the scene further.

It wasn't immediately known if the remains found Wednesday belonged to Susan Powell, or if they were even female.

The anthropologist will work to determine how long the remains had been there, and if they possibly belonged to ancient Indians or even early settlers to the area, Merritt said Thursday.
