Lima, Peru (CNN) -- Joran van der Sloot said he elbowed murder victim Stephany Flores Ramirez in the face before strangling her and then suffocating her with his own shirt, according to transcripts of his confession.

The transcripts -- provided to CNN by an anonymous police source -- give shocking details of the murder van der Sloot is accused of and also give the public its first glimpse of why van der Sloot says the alleged murder took place. The source has not been named because he was not authorized to pass along the material.

"There was blood everywhere," van der Sloot said in the transcripts. "What am I going to do now. I had blood on my shirt. There was also blood on the bed, so, I took my shirt and put it on her face, pressing hard, until I killed Stephany."

Peruvian authorities charged van der Sloot with murder last week in the death of Flores, a 21-year-old student. Van der Sloot, a 22-year-old Dutch citizen, has also been considered the main suspect in the well-publicized 2005 disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba.

Van der Sloot told authorities he attacked Flores on May 30 after she read an e-mail on his computer connected with the Holloway case.

In the transcript, van der Sloot said that after Flores read the e-mail, she punched him in the face.

"At that moment impulsively, with my right elbow I hit her in the face exactly on top of the nose," van der Sloot said. "I think she started to faint. It affected me so that I grabbed her from the neck and strangled her for a minute."

Van der Sloot said he had a quick thought that he might try to hide the body but instead fled.

He was arrested in Chile on June 3 and was returned the next day to Peru. Along with killing Flores, who had a broken neck, he took money and bank cards from her wallet, police said.

Van der Sloot told police in Chile a different story of how Flores died when he was arrested there, according to transcripts. He blamed the death on robbers who had waited for him at his hotel in Peru.

"There was a man coming from the access door with a knife in his hand," van der Sloot said. "The man with the knife hit her in the face, making her bleed through the nose."

But Peru authorities said they had overwhelming evidence pointing to van der Sloot, and when he was transferred to Peru, van der Sloot confessed to the crime, police said.

Van der Sloot said he was in Peru for a poker tournament and had met Flores while he was gambling.

Police have said they think van der Sloot killed Flores to steal money she won from gambling.

Van der Sloot offered a different motive.

"After I responded with hitting her, I feared that she would go to the police and they would detain me for what was an impulsive act," van der Sloot said. "I think I wanted to kill her because I wasn't thinking."

Van der Sloot's lawyer, Maximo Alonso Altez Navarro, has said he plans to ask the judge in the case to strike down van der Sloot's confession because he was not properly represented when he was interrogated.

Peruvian police have defended the interrogation and said van der Sloot's confession was acquired legally.

I know it is a translation, but they are pretty different accounts of the same thing.

I love the knife wielding man story.. even though he clearly saw the security camera during the coffee cup staged lock out and his final exit. Guess he was hoping that it didn't actually work!

ALso on account that he said they robbed him and Stephany..he said they robbed them of 4000. and said they took his wrist watch...

this only makes me think he was trying to explain how Stephany has a loss of 4000.
I suspect we will hear that 4000. was missing from Stephany ..maybe on a credit cward?? while he prolly on line gambled abit after he had killed her... which IMO was his motive...

I noticed all prisoners except 1, being transported in the back of that van wore scarves around their necks and some partially covering their heads and faces. what is the purpose of the scarf around joran's neck? what is the significance of this in peruvian culture?

Hi molly82! I don't know what the purpose is, but I noticed they uncovered Joran's head from the blanket, but not the others. They paraded him in front of the paparazzi 3 times when he was transported from Chile back to Lima into their custody. I'd say he's a prize catch for them and they are proud to have him in custody for what he has done. Maybe covering their heads with blankets so they don't see each other during transport could be a security measure...not sure. Interesting question though! I wondered the same thing.

Aruba, Peru to swap notes on Joran van der Sloot

Officials hope any details they share involving Joran van der Sloot, middle, and the murder of Stephany Flores, right, will help in the Natalee Holloway investigation.

Aruban and Peruvian authorities have agreed to "help each other" in the murder investigation of Stephany Flores - in which Joran Van der Sloot is the prime suspect, Aruban government spokesman Taco Stein told CNN Tuesday.

Investigators hope the cooperation will lead to new information about the disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway in 2005 in Aruba. Van der Sloot is also a suspect in that case.

Following a phone meeting with Peruvian judge Carlos Morales on Tuesday morning, Stein said Peruvian authorities have agreed to allow Aruban investigators into Peru once a formal request has been made. He did not indicate when that more formal request would take place or when Aruban investigators are expected to arrive in Peru, but described the meeting as a "positive start" to information sharing.

On Monday, van der Sloot, who is in the Miguel Castro Castro prison in Lima, was awaiting a psychological evaluation, prison authorities said. He is in a high-security area of the prison where only two of 10 cells are occupied, and he has no contact with inmates in the general prison population. He is under guard 24 hours a day, authorities said. The only other inmate in the area is alleged Colombian hit man Hugo Trujillo Ospina.

The two have spent some time together in a common area where there is a television set and weights made of out of broomsticks and soda bottles, authorities said.

On Monday, van der Sloot's attorney resigned saying the job was causing too many problems for him.

According to transcripts of his confession, van der Sloot said he elbowed Flores in the face before strangling her and then suffocating her with his own shirt.

But I don't know how anyone can ever believe anything he says about Natalee. He has already told so many versions of what happened to her.... he is even still lying about Stephany and making it her fault her killed her. He will probably do the same to Natalee.

We have seen him and heard his many different confessions re Natalee, where he always portrayed himself to be the victim....We saw him lie and elude, and in the most arrogant way where he showed ZERO respect for another human being.. He slammed NAtalee, he called her names, and then used her own flesh and blood to extract money from her grieving family...We also see how he still continues to use his murderous actions as leverage in having his way, to give up info in exchange for the location of Natalee''s remains..so he can decide where e will spend his sentence..

We now see he is doing the exact same thing with Stephany.. Here he has killed another person in cold blood and has the audicity to blame her for his actions...and have the nerve to try and call the shots..

It is repulsive.. I say give him whatever lip service he needs to get out the much sought after info, then throw him in with hungry wolves....

AJ, I'm not thinking Peru is going to be too likely to let Joran out of their grasp. If he gets back in Aruba, no telling what will happen. They covered for him before.....

There better not be any deals unless Joran provides information that leads directly to Natalee's body, and if there is a deal, I hope the U.S. government steps in if Aruba doesn't make him serve his full sentences for both crimes.

Hi J4A~ Joran is in a real pickle. He has told so many "true confessions" about Natalee, and has tormented her family, his family, and the authorities for so many years now, that IF (and that's a big IF) he confesses, he will have to be able to produce a body to prove it AND I DON'T THINK HE CAN.

I believe he absolutely knows how Natalee died (and I do believe she is dead and I further believe he was there when she died, probably at his hands)...... and where he dumped her (with or without help)...... but she isn't there anymore! She's been in the ocean for more than 5 years! He couldn't find her now if his life dependended on it (which it just might!).

His recent 'extortion plot' for money from the bereaved family (how low can a person sink?) has only helped to seal his fate....... he will now die in a Peruvian prison..... alone, unprotected, dirty, hungry, frightened and ashamed. Not the priviledged richboy with connections. Not the carefree gambling, partying, screwing, thievin and drinkin spoiled brat that he used to be......... I almost feel sorry for him.

I dont see how they will ever be able to bring her home, and either way, he cant be believed.. Even if he can and does lead them to her remains, he shud never receive one ounce of reward for it.. if anything it shud be a worse fate for him..

This is political now involving 3 countries.. The Flores will likely be a part of any decision made.. They strike me as the type of ppl who will take into consideration Beth and Dave's wishes if they have any leeway/pull which I imagine they do...

I dont wanrt to see him leave the jail system in Peru in any case... None of his wishes/hopes/dreams/ shud ever be fulfilled again.. He has robbed 2 innocent girls and their families, of any wishes hopes and dreams.,..

Maybe I'm out of line here - but I do not think for a minute that Aruba should be allowed to help - they have had their chance for 5 yrs - and I'll say this also, that had they done their job in the first place instead of trying to be "politically correct" and not "offend" Joran's affluent family - Stephany would still be alive and well today - so NOW Aruba wants to do something about him and get him back into their "justice" system??? Here's another thing - I don't think he's going anywhere, I think Peru would be foolish to make an exception for him, instead they should (and probably will) make an example of him and keep him locked up in horrifying conditions, which he deserves - but SHOULD he live to see daylight again - I think the US should get the first crack at him - they were bold enough to bring charges against him while Aruba has yet to make that move - although a US jail would be very similar to his current life style unfortunately - I just think that Aruba needs to stand in line. They had their chance. I still want justice for Natalee - very badly - but the medium to attaining justice for Natalee will be Stephany sadly...

IMO he lost any right when he killed the first time.. They facilitated his behavior and condoned it.. IMO their actions were partially to blame for teaching that monster, that he got away with murder.. or at least he thought so!

Were there two brothers or three? Are they really brothers? There are 3 names listed above and they all have different last names, as well as 3 dates listed.

I had read there were two brothers involved with his trip to Chile........ this states three men with court dates. So I don't really know for sure, Mama. Maybe John Oswald and John Williams Aparcana...etc are the brothers? Possibly the Carlos dude set Joran up with the brothers to "taxi" him to Chile. I'm just speculating here.....

Interesting. We have had to deal with translations (sometimes by people and sometimes by Google) which has really muddied the waters as far as facts (in my mind, anyway). Translating one language to another is a subjective thing.... depending on gadgets to do it for you is even worse. O translating it over and over from one language to another and then another one still.

So I am not sure what to think about this.

I remember reading in the US news there were two brothers involved in driving him out of Peru into Chile because they were referencing the Kalpoe brothers from Aruba and coincidence.

I highly doubt these men knew what he did, surely he wouldn't have told locals as he was trying to leave the country that he just murdered a woman. Peruvian LE did arrest them for transporting him.....although these men had nothing to do with Stephany's murder. He is solely responsible for that.

Joran Van der Sloot makes prison pal called 'The Clown,' Aruba wants to know more about Holloway

Joran van der Sloot confesses to hitting Stephany Flores before suffocating her: reportJoran Van der Sloot's prison stay in Peru is just a bunch of clowning around.

Awaiting trial for the murder of a 21-year-old woman found with her neck broken at a Lima hotel last month, the Dutch playboy's new best friend is a convicted Colombian assassin, Hugo Trujillo, dubbed "The Clown."

When they aren't in Trujillo's cell watching TV, the pair trade stories and play cards, a prison official told NBC's "Today" show.

"The Clown" has even given his new cellmate his own nickname - "Psychopath."

These details follow reports that Van der Sloot is scared to death of his Peruvian prison digs. He's even offered to sing all he knows about missing American Natalee Holloway, the Alabama teen who vanished exactly five years before he allegedly killed Stephany Flores in Lima on May 30.

Van der Sloot is reportedly willing to dish, with the proviso he can get more comfy quarters in an Aruban cell.

Prosecutors in Aruba say they're willing to meet Van der Sloot in Peru, but won't bring him back.

"I think it's out of the question," Peter Blanken, the Aruban chief prosecutor, said. "The case in Peru is a very severe and the Peruvian authorities have said they do not want to do that."

Any such meeting would likely not take place until August

Van der Sloot was twice arrested and released by Aruban police over lack of evidence in regards to the Holloway case.

In 2008, he told a Dutch reporter on hidden camera that he helped dump Holloway's body into the ocean.

The FBI also targeted Van der Sloot for allegedly trying to extort thousands from Holloway's family in exchange for information.

Natalee Holloway's mother consoles Flores family

(CNN) -- The mother of missing Alabama teen Natalee Holloway talked to the family of a murdered Peruvian woman whose case may be linked to her daughter's, the Peruvian family told CNN's sister network In Session.

Beth Holloway gave the Flores family her "sincere, sincere condolences" when they spoke for the first time Wednesday, Enrique Flores told In Session's Jean Casarez.

Flores' sister Stephany was killed May 30. Joran van der Sloot, who is being held in connection with the killing, was twice arrested but never charged in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in 2005.

Beth Holloway told Enrique Flores she hoped his family would not go through what her family had suffered, he said.

The Flores family had earlier spoken to Dave Holloway, Natalee's father.

They told CNN's "Larry King Live" on Wednesday they hoped the eventual trial of van der Sloot can ease their pain and that of the Holloway family.

"I think the pain they are feeling, it's very hard," Enrique Flores said from Lima, Peru, where 21-year-old Stephany was killed. "We saw the body of our sister. They don't have the body of their daughter."

Van der Sloot, a 22-year-old Dutch citizen, was arrested twice in Aruba in connection with Holloway's disappearance but released for lack of evidence.

Holloway's body has never been found.

Van der Sloot has stated to Peruvian police that he wants to talk to Aruban officials about the Holloway case, Aruban Attorney General Robert F. Pietersz said Wednesday.

"I am not worried. I trust the justice in Peru. So, we are just waiting for the judgment," said Stephany's sister-in-law Carolina Jorge. "We are praying that this case (will bring closure) ... for us and ... for Natalee's family, too."

Dave Holloway met with Aruban authorities on the Caribbean island Tuesday and told CNN he believes progress is being made in the investigation. He declined to elaborate further.

Aruba also will have to wait to see what information may be contained in a laptop computer Peruvian authorities confiscated when they arrested van der Sloot, Aruban prosecutor Peter Blanken said.

The FBI will obtain that information from Peru and then share it with Aruban investigators, Blanken said.

Authorities in Aruba say they do not know whether the computer contains any information that may help in the Holloway case.
