What does he mean 'temporary insanity'? He is a true nut-case and that is not temporary. He should be locked up in an institution for the criminally insane and never let out.

Police have said that Van der Sloot admitted he attacked Flores on May 30 after she read an e-mail on his computer connecting him to the Holloway case.

Of course he lied about why he killed her, he did it for his own pleasure, had nothing to do with her finding out anything about Natalie.

Are they actually surprised, Joran hasn't told the truth about anything in years, why would they think he was telling the truth about WHY he killed Stephany. He just likes to kill pretty young women, and I bet these aren't the only two he has killed.

I'm afraid you may be right about other victims mama. He is a sociopath who has a total disregard for human life.

I agree they need to keep him in solitary. I thought it was supposed to be a tough prison, but it seems like he is running the place.

I thought he was placed in a protected area with some other high profile inmates, like the notorious hitman that had befriended him.

Will it complicate efforts to extradite Joran van der Sloot from Peru's Castro Castro prison to face wire fraud and extortion charges here in Birmingham?

Peru and The Netherlands agreed on an extradition treaty Thursday. It still requires ratification by the Dutch Parliament and the Peruvian Congress.

Dutch Foreign Minister Uri Rosenthal and his Peruvian opposite number Jose Antonio Garcia Belaunde signed a treaty on the transfer of sentenced persons and the enforcement of criminal judgments. "The treaty allows residents of the Kingdom of the Netherlands who have been sentenced to prison by final and irrevocable judgment in Peru" to serve their sentence in the Netherlands, said Rosenthal.

LIMA, Peru -- Joran van der Sloot, prime suspect in the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway and set to go on trial for the murder of a Peruvian woman, has been dumped by his lawyer ahead of a crucial hearing, it was reported Tuesday.

The De Telegraaf said Maximo Altez walked out on his infamous client after quarreling over money and how best to mount his defense.

Van der Sloot, 23, has been held in custody in Peru for nearly a year over the murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores, whom he is accused of robbing and killing in his Lima hotel room in May 2010.

Victim's family wants life for van der Sloot

Birmingham, Ala (WIAT) Neither Joran van der Sloot nor his lawyer showed up for a preliminary hearing in Lima, Peru Monday but the family of his victim was there front and center demanding a tougher charge and life behind bars.

Van der Sloot has already admitted he killed 21 year old Stephany Flores. He claims it happened in a fit of rage after she found material about Natalee Holloway on his laptop. His defense says that adds up to "simple homicide" (roughly equivalent to a manslaughter charge here) and they'll plead guilty to a sentence of 6-20 years.

Not nearly enough says the Flores family! And they're not much happier with prosecutors than they are with van der Sloot.

Birmingham, Alabama (WIAT) Peruvian prosecutors have rejected a plea by Stephany Flores' family to have Joran van der Sloot charged with "robbery with murder" which would have carried a possible life sentence. Instead, the prosecution wants to stick with "murder followed by robbery" which carries a 30 year max.

Van der Sloot sues over extradition

Birmingham, Ala (WIAT) Joran van der Sloot wants $10 million dollars for what he calls human rights violations when he was extradited from Chile to Peru a year and a half ago.

The lawsuit comes just days after a Peruvian court gave van der Sloot a January 6 trial date on charges he murdered a 21 year old Peruvian student he met at a poker tournament.

LIMA (Reuters) - Dutch citizen Joran van der Sloot is frustrated that he ended up with a 28-year prison term after pleading guilty to killing a Peruvian student in 2010 based on legal advice that he would receive a short sentence, his counsel said on Monday.

Van der Sloot - in two handwritten letters provided by his attorney, Max Altez - said he had received "bad legal advice" from a previous lawyer and emphasized that he has a history of psychological problems that Peruvian courts should have weighed during his January trial for the murder of Stephany Flores. His sentence is currently under appeal.

LIMA – The inter-American Human Rights court has taken an interest in convicted Dutch murderer Joran Van der Sloot.

The court wants to review the Van der Sloot’s case in Peru based on his assessment that his rights were violated numerous times during his trial.

According to the Peruvian paper ‘ El Commercio’ Van der Sloot’s lawyer has requested for the investigation because he believes his client’s trial should be redone.

He is playing a most evil game and part of it is to avoid extradition. As for the female, she has no common sense, no self respect. Can you imagine intentionally getting naked for this mass murderer? Then conceiving a child by him? Gives me the shivers thinking of this poor unborn child. Did she get a rush off the knowledge this man had intentionally taken the life of another young woman? How sick.

There used to be a phrase I heard a lot when I was a child. "I didn't have much to give you but I gave you a good name. Make sure you can give the same to your own children." This child will never be able to have the simplest of gifts--- a clean name.
