'Van der Sloot' Google search stuns slain woman's brother

(CNN) -- It was unlike Stephany Flores Ramirez not to come home on time. An avid poker player, the Peruvian 21-year-old lived with her father and knew he was expecting her after a night at a Texas Hold 'em tournament on May 30 in Lima.
"My father called me and said Stephany didn't come home, help me," Stephany's older brother Enrique Flores told CNN on Sunday. "So I went to the house and we started calling all the numbers of my sister's friends that I had and we called the police."
Eventually, authorities found surveillance video of the young woman at the hotel where the tournament was held. They found footage of Joran van der Sloot sitting next to Stephany, he said.
"At first, it was a relief because I saw her and that gave me hope," Enrique Flores said. "The people at the hotel told us, 'Yeah, she was with this guy. He seemed nice. He looked like Brad Pitt.'"
Van der Sloot is widely known as a suspect in the high-profile 2005 disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba. The Dutch 22-year-old has repeatedly denied involvement in that case. He has twice been arrested and released but has not been charged.
Flores' battered body was found last week in a hotel room registered to van der Sloot. Hotel videotape clearly shows the two entering a room together May 30 at 5:16 a.m. local time. Three hours and 20 minutes later, he left the hotel by himself carrying a backpack, telling the hotel staff not to bother "his girl," police said.
The Flores family is well known in Peru. Patriarch Ricardo Flores is a politically connected former race car driver. The four Flores sons, including Enrique Flores, run a successful event-planning business.
After police showed Enrique and his father the surveillance tape, they again began trying to find out more from people at the hotel, and obtained information about the man on the tape.
"They gave us his social security number and his name," the brother told CNN. "We came back home and searched his name on the Internet. I cannot tell you the shock we felt."
"My wife typed 'Joran van der Sloot' into Google and started screaming for me to see," Enrique Flores told CNN on Sunday. "I couldn't believe it. How could it be that guy?"
"All I have been doing is reading about Natalee Holloway and what her family has gone through," Flores said.
Stephany Flores was a trusting young woman, her family said.
"My sister is very friendly ... always smiling, always nice to everyone," said Enrique Flores. "I think about how she felt with him, that she probably did not think ... and it is ... so hard to think about that."
"My sister was the only girl in our house, the queen of our family," he continued. "What she wanted, she got. She loved to play soccer" and would organize matches with her friends in the family's backyard.
She was in her third year studying business administration at University of Lima, and ran the merchandising arm of the family entertainment and event-promotion business, Enrique Flores said.
"She had a lot of friends," he said. "A lot of people are crying."
About an hour after Enrique Flores found out who the man on the videotape was, police called to say they had found his sister's body. Investigators believe a tennis racquet found in the room was used in the killing, said Carlos Gonzalo, a spokesman for Peru's Interior Ministry.
When authorities knew who they were looking for, they found van der Sloot traveling alone in a taxi in Chile. Authorities said he had bloody clothes with him. He was taken into custody and transported to Peru where he remains jailed.
A Peruvian judge extended for another week the investigation into van der Sloot and he will remain jailed in Lima, Gonzalo said.

Alcohol and sexual motive ruled out in Peru van der Sloot case

An autopsy determined that the 21-year-old homicide victim in Lima, Peru, Stephany Flores, did not have sexual intercourse prior to her death. Nor did she consume enough alcohol to prevent her from resisting an attack, reports local press.
Read more about the case, in which Dutch national Joran van der Sloot, pictured here, is the prime murder suspect.
La Republica reports that homicide investigators are considering robbery as the prime motive for the murder.
Peru has assigned a public defense attorney for van der Sloot, Rosa Luisa Camargo Madrid, but van der Sloot will ask for a lawyer from his country; he will also have a translator, Mauricio Stains.
Meanwhile, the suspect is currently jailed at the investigations building of Peru's national police, sharing his cell with another suspect of homicide and under the permanent surveillance of four agents, because there are fears that he could either try to commit suicide, or be killed.
Surveillance was assigned because van der Sloot deliberately hit his head against a wall last Saturday.
However, he has had meals and slept normally while on his cell; he is having the same meals that police officers receive while on duty.
Representatives from the Netherlands embassy have visited him, but it is still unclear if they will provide a lawyer for van der Sloot or not.
Lawyers consulted by LivinginPeru.com said that if the case reaches court, the whole trial may take two years.
Van der Sloot could be jailed either at Miguel Castro Castro Prison (aka "Lurigancho") or at Piedras Gordas High Security Prison.

Re: Stephany Flores -- Found Deceased 5/30/10 UPDATE: Joran van der Sloot Confesses!!
I agree that robbery was probably the motive or at least part of it. There were reports that Stephany had a bunch of money on her from gambling winnings. I wouldn't put it past Joran to kill for money since he just got done extorting money from Beth Holloway before his trip to Peru.
I also think part of Joran's motive is that he gets pleasure out of killing since he has most likely killed more than once and I don't think Natalee Holloway was killed for money. If money was Joran's primary motive for Stephany's murder, I think he considered the pleasure of killing a bonus, and if the sick pleasure of killing was his motive, then I think he considered the money a bonus.

Re: Stephany Flores -- Found Deceased 5/30/10 UPDATE: Joran van der Sloot Confesses!!
I'm getting confused.
Now they're saying it wasn't a baseball bat; it was a tennis racket.
And they are saying she had her pants off but not her undies.
The TV was blasting away and the lights were on.
Joran tells somebody at the hotel not to bother 'his girl'.
I'm getting the feeling Joran did this because it was May 30...started out in the casino, then lured poor Stefany to his room for whatever reason, but set about to kill her just because it was May 30.

Report: Van der Sloot Confesses to Peru Murder
Published June 08, 2010
FOXNews.com
An official in Peru says Joran van der Sloot has confessed to killing a 21-year-old female student who police say he met playing poker at a casino, the La Republica newspaper reported late Monday.
The Dutchman, who is also the prime suspect in U.S. teen Natalee Holloway's 2005 disappearance in Aruba, is being held in a seventh-floor cell with a bunk bed and blanket and gets three hot meals a day, said Maj. Jose Gamboa, spokesman for the Peruvian national police.
Van der Sloot is suspected in the May 30 killing — five years to the day after Holloway's disappearance — of Stephany Flores.
Police released video Saturday taken by security cameras at the hotel where van der Sloot had been staying since arriving from Colombia on May 14. It shows the two entering van der Sloot's room together and the Dutchman leaving alone four hours later.
The woman's battered body was found on the room's floor more than two days later, her neck broken.

Wow... I have to say Im a little surprised.. I wonder if the interrogations prompted it???
After all the lying he did while in and out of jail in Aruba, I guess Im surprised he cracked this easy..even without Pops..
On the other hand, I guess I wonder ifg he really had any kind of interrogating in Aruba, or if his jail stays were to appease the public.. Afterall, evidently, Aruba never helped and only help hurt the case...
I wonder how the sentencing will work, or if there will even be a trial.. If this is true, I suppose he cud still plead not guilty, and have his lawyer say the confession was coerced...?

Hi AJ, I'm pretty surprised too. That's a pretty lame excuse too for killing someone.

Van der Sloot confesses to murder, Peruvian authorities sayBy the CNN Wire Staff
June 8, 2010 12:58 a.m. EDT
Lima, Peru (CNN) -- Joran van der Sloot has confessed to the murder of Stephany Flores Ramirez, Peruvian government authorities said late Monday.
Van der Sloot could be formally charged in the case as early as Tuesday and will likely be held at one of three maximum security prisons -- Castro Castro, Piedras Gordas and Lurigancho, authorities said.
At his first court appearance, the judge may set a hearing date for van der Sloot and could order additional investigations in the case.
The Peruvian justice system often issues a lighter sentence in cases where the suspect confesses. That may have influenced his alleged confession.
There is no death penalty or life sentence in Peru.
A Peruvian police report leaked Monday said Flores was found in his hotel room on the floor, half-dressed. The report provides new details about the hours before Flores' body was found.
Van der Sloot, who was twice arrested in connection with the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba in 2005, is in Peruvian custody as a suspect in the killing of Flores, 21.
According to the document, the Hotel Tac, where van der Sloot was staying, received a call from someone looking for him about 11 p.m. June 1. The receptionist forwarded the call, but no one answered. The hotel worker assumed that van der Sloot was asleep because the room key was with him and not the front desk.
About an hour later, according to the police report, the receptionist noticed that van der Sloot owed money for two nights and went up to his room, where her knocks went unanswered. The television was blaring, so the hotel employee figured he was resting, the report says.
Afterward, the hotel supervisor told the employee to go back to van der Sloot's room and enter using a spare key. When the employee went in, she found Flores' body on the floor, dressed in a black T-shirt and red panties, half-covered with a piece of white clothing, the police report said.
Flores was bleeding from her nose, the report said.
The hotel employee became frightened at the sight and went to alert her supervisor and the police, turning off the television and lights on her way out of the room, the report said.
CNN's Mayra Cuevas contributed to this report.

Yep, sounds like it.. I wonder how much less? I dont know how much mercy will be shed on account of her high profile father..
Also..snipped from above..
"The hotel worker assumed that van der Sloot was asleep because the room key was with him and not the front desk."
------------------------------
I wonder if this explains the video where we see monster asking the front desk for the key?
It appears registered guests may be required/expected to turn in your key when you exit, and pick it up upon re-entry.. This wud explain why they assumed he was in the room for so long without anyone noticing anything for so long..

Excellent point, I bet he didn't think of that, nor did they point it out to him.

Van der Sloot to attend re-enactment, Peruvian authorities say
By the CNN Wire Staff
June 8, 2010 -- Updated 0549 GMT (1349 HKT)
Lima, Peru (CNN) -- Joran van der Sloot, the longtime suspect in the disappearance of an Alabama teenager in Aruba, is slated to take Peruvian authorities on a re-enactment Tuesday at the hotel room where the body of a young woman he has confessed to killing was found last week, officials said.
Van der Sloot offered a tearful confession Monday night to killing 21-year-old Stephany Flores Ramirez, Peruvian authorities said.
The suspect told authorities Flores had found some information on his laptop computer that tied him to the disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway five years ago.
"I did not want to do it," van der Sloot is said to have told authorities. "The girl intruded into my private life."
He could be formally charged as early as Tuesday, Peruvian authorities said.
Van der Sloot and Flores had returned to his hotel room after meeting at a casino. Officials say van der Sloot went out to get some coffee and found her reading his computer when he returned.
He became enraged, investigators said, and beat her to death. Her neck was broken.
The Dutch citizen broke down in tears when he offered his confession in front of investigators and his attorney, Peruvian officials said.
Van der Sloot's attorney in Peru could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
Van der Sloot, 22, was arrested twice in connection with Holloway's disappearance in Aruba but was released for lack of evidence. He has denied any involvement and has not been charged.
He is slated to take authorities on a re-enactment of the crime at the Hotel Tac, where he was staying. Flores' body was found in the room registered to van der Sloot. Video from hotel security cameras show van der Sloot and Flores entering his room at 5:33 a.m. on May 30. Her emerged alone and left the hotel more than three hours later, the video shows.
He was arrested in Chile on Thursday and returned to Peru on Friday.
At van der Sloot's first court appearance, the judge may set a hearing date and order additional investigations.
The Peruvian justice system often issues a lighter sentence in cases where the suspect confesses.
Van der Sloot could get up to 35 years in prison. There is no death penalty or life sentence in Peru.
A Peruvian police report leaked Monday said Flores was found in van der Sloot's hotel room floor, half-dressed. The report also provides new details about the hours before Flores' body was found.
According to the document, the Hotel Tac received a call from someone looking for van der Sloot about 11 p.m.
Flores had bled from her nose, the report said.
The hotel employee became frightened and went to alert her supervisor and the police, turning off the television and lights on her way out of the room, the report said.
The developments in the van der Sloot case come as the Natalee Holloway Resource Center opens Tuesday in Washington. The nonprofit center is located at the National Museum of Crime and Punishment. Natalee's mother, Beth Holloway, is scheduled to attend the opening.
The center says it will provide families of missing persons help with managing their crisis and to give students advice on traveling safely.

Re: Stephany Flores -- Found Deceased 5/30/10 UPDATE: Joran van der Sloot Confesses!!
After thinking about his confession for a few minutes, what comes to mind is that I dont know that I believe it...
I do believe he killed her becasue he was angry, but Im not sure it had anything to do with a notebook search of him....
I think he is serial killer/rapist .. It was clearly easier to make up some lame excuse where leniency is his motive..
The reports of date rape drugs and seeing Stephany's demeanor, along with her alleged preferences being women, dont match his story at all.Attempting to rape her sounds more accurate..Why wud she have been partially dressed? Sounds like she tried fighting him off just like what Natalee prolly did and they both ended up dead..
I suspect it was he who did the search of himself, after he killed her. Prolly to see how Chile looked for an escape for him.. He may have wanted to see if there was anything new pending against him knowing he took the 15k from Birmingham and that there was an investigation going on in the U.S... I doubt Stephany looked him up at all..
LE wud have been confronted him, as to this search, as they wud have done forensics on his computer and seen the search.. LE's questions prolly helped him come up with this excuse ..
On account of his lack of attempt to cover ths one up, tells me he definitley had lots of help in hiding Natalee's murder...
I wonder if there are any unsolved similar murders in Thailand? I believe he spent lots of time there... Looks like this is habitual ...

Re: Stephany Flores -- Found Deceased 5/30/10 UPDATE: Joran van der Sloot Confesses!!
AJ-Your theories all make sense to me. Will they be able to detect date rape drugs in her system? If so, this would be even more plausible. He obviously does have anger issues. I read where after a lie detector test, he was mad and threw a glass of water across the room in a rage.
I do think it may be possible that she did Google his name though, just to see what kind of a guy she was in a hotel room with, but....don't you think she would have heard of him by now? Joran has been on the news quite a bit since Natalee's disappearance. If some dude told me his name was Joran Van der Sloot, I'd run in the other direction.

Re: Stephany Flores -- Found Deceased 5/30/10 UPDATE: Joran van der Sloot Confesses!!
Yes, I saw that too... and also I just read from ppl who were supporters, in Aruba ..now saying that he is a sociopath and and he led his parents.. It said something like they were afraid of him.. Of course now this being said is a day late and a dollar short.. These are ppl who protected him until now.. and until his father passed..
Also, I do believe the drug wud show up .. here's hoping.. Not that it wud really prove anything as he cud say they both took it for some strange reason but hopefully his reasons fro murder will be challenged tooth and nail..
A confession like that almost makes me think he will try and plead some kind of temporary insanity...or ... he will say that it was self defense.. he will say she flipped on him when she saw who he was and he had to defend himslef .. He will say it was her who used the raquet..This confession stinks but I am confidant that he will have the book thrown at him.. I cant see getting out of this one..

Official: Van der Sloot confesses to Peru slaying
'I did not want to do it,' paper quotes Natalee Holloway suspect as saying
NBC News and news services
updated 23 minutes ago
LIMA, Peru - Joran van der Sloot confessed to the slaying of a 21-year-old woman in a Lima hotel room, a high-ranking Peruvian government official told NBC News on Monday.
According to La Republica newspaper, van der Sloot said he broke Stephany Flores' neck after she grabbed his laptop without his permission and found out that he was involved in the disappearance of an American woman.
The paper quoted van der Sloot as saying, "I did not want to do it. The girl intruded into my private life... she didn't have any right. I went to her and I hit her. She was scared, we argued and she tried to escape. I grabbed her by the neck and hit her."
NBC News reported that a lawmaker confirmed that van der Sloot confessed to a police officer during interrogation. However, the source did not know the circumstances under which the confession was allegedly obtained.
The Dutchman — also the prime suspect in U.S. teen Natalee Holloway's 2005 disappearance in Aruba — is suspected of killing Flores, a business student who police say he met playing poker at a casino, on May 30 — five years to the day after Holloway's disappearance.
On Saturday, police released video taken by security cameras at the hotel where van der Sloot had been staying since arriving from Colombia on May 14. It shows Flores and van der Sloot entering his room together and the Dutchman leaving alone four hours later.
The woman's battered body was found on the hotel room's floor more than two days later, her neck broken. Van der Sloot had by then crossed into Chile, where he was arrested Thursday.
Natalee Holloway, of Alabama, hasn't been seen since May 30, 2005. Van der Sloot was arrested and released in that case, but faced no charges.
'End of the line'
Dave Holloway, Natalee Holloway's father, told ABC's "Good Morning America" Tuesday that he hoped van der Sloot would reveal what happened to his daughter and said search teams were standing by to look for her body.
"He's confessed to this one," Holloway said of Flores' death, "and I'd like for him to tell everyone what happened."
"I would just like to say that, you know, all the pain and suffering that we've gone through, hopefully justice is served this time," he added, speaking to the show by telephone. "We're hoping this is the end of the line for him."
Van der Sloot was charged Thursday in the United States with trying to extort $250,000 from Holloway's family in exchange for disclosing the location of her body and describing how she died.
U.S. prosecutors say $15,000 was transferred to a Dutch bank account in his name. In the Netherlands on Friday, prosecutors raided two homes in the case, seizing computers, cell phones and data-storage devices.
Holloway told ABC that only his ex-wife Beth Twitty had been told about the case by the FBI until shortly before the charges were made public.
"That was handled by the FBI and I knew nothing about it. I think the only person that was involved in this incident was Beth. The FBI indicated that only the people involved in it should know," Holloway told ABC.
Holloway described the Flores murder as being like "deja vu."
Holloway, 18, was celebrating her high school graduation on Aruba when she disappeared. Van der Sloot told investigators he left her on a beach, drunk. This was the last time she was seen.
Two years ago, a Dutch television crime reporter captured hidden-camera footage of van der Sloot saying that after Holloway collapsed on the beach he asked a friend to dump her body in the sea.
The same journalist, Peter de Vries, reported later in 2008 that van der Sloot was recruiting Thai women in Bangkok for sex work in the Netherlands.
Van der Sloot's father, a former judge and attorney on the Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba, died in February.
After Van der Sloot traveled from Chile to Peru in a police caravan Saturday, he was paraded, sheathed in bulletproof vest and handcuffed, before reporters at criminal police headquarters in Lima.
He was then submitted to an initial interrogation. A judge subsequently granted prosecutors' request to extend van der Sloot's preliminary detention order seven more days, said Gamboa, the national police spokesman.
If tried and convicted of murder, van der Sloot faces a potential prison term of 35 years.
Police planned to take him back to the hotel where Flores' body was found to participate in a reconstruction of the events leading to her slaying, Col. Abel Gamarra, head of the Information Directorate of Police, told The Associated Press.
Members of van der Sloot's family, including his mother, were planning to travel to Lima on Tuesday, a lawmaker told NBC News.
Earlier denial
Chilean police had said previously that van der Sloot declared himself innocent in the Lima slaying, but said he had acknowledged having met Flores.
Dutch Embassy chief consular officer Angela Lowe said her government was providing van der Sloot with "regular consular assistance, which means an occasional consular visit, and we will make sure he is being treated decently, just like any other inmate."
She said Peruvian authorities have assured the Dutch government they are treating him well. "They are taking this case very seriously," she added. "The world is watching."

Peru police say evidence mounts against Dutchman Joran van der Sloot
By Lucien Chauvin
Mon Jun 7, 5:39 pm ET
Lima, Peru – Joran van der Sloot – the young Dutchman in connection to the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba arrested five years ago – is again behind bars, this time in Lima, Peru, where he is the prime suspect in the murder of Stephany Flores Ramirez.
In 2005, Mr. van der Sloot admitted to knowing Ms. Holloway and spending time with her, but said he had no idea what happened to her the day she went missing. He was arrested and released (twice) for lack of evidence. Holloway has never been found.
This time, though, the circumstances are much different.
Peru's investigative police say there is plenty of evidence against van der Sloot, and few observers expect him to be set free anytime soon.
Evidence stacks up
Since the discovery of Flores' body on June 2, police here have released surveillance footage of her entering the hotel where she was killed with van der Sloot. There is also video footage and testimony from witnesses who saw the two together at a local casino and in the Hotel Tac. A detective on the case says that there is physical evidence, including blood and finger prints, which point to van der Sloot as the culprit.
Under Peruvian law, police can hold Van der Sloot seven days, starting from June 5, when he was brought back to Peru from neighboring Chile. He left Peru the same day that Flores was murdered.
Authorities will also use this week to decide what the official charges will be in the case against van der Sloot, which in term will determine the scope of a future trial.
Murder or robbery charges? If convicted of murder, van der Sloot could face anywhere from 15 to 35 years in prison. The maximum sentence would be based any a prior record and the circumstances of the murder. The average murder trial in Peru takes two years from arrest to verdict.
Luis Lamas Puccio, a leading criminal lawyer in Peru, says the fact that van der Sloot fled Peru would act as a major strike against him if he is tried and found guilty of murder. "He could be looking at the maximum sentence given the circumstances of the case," he said.
There is a possibility, however, that authorities could charge van der Sloot with aggravated robbery instead of murder. Aggravated robbery is used in cases when robbery is the motive, but the perpetrator kills the victim in the act. This crime carries a life sentence.
Police are investigating claims from Flores' friends that she had won around $1,000 playing poker in a local casino where she met Flores on May 29. They left the casino together around daybreak the next morning. Another lead involves money that Flores supposedly had with her to buy a new computer.
The police did not find any money with her, which has sparked speculation in the media that van der Sloot killed her for the cash.
The US attorney for the Northern District of Alabama charged van der Sloot with trying to extort $250,000 from Holloway's family in exchange for disclosing the location of her body. Charges of extortion and wire fraud were filed on June 3, the day van der Sloot was detained in Chile. Prosecutors say $15,000 was transferred to from a Birmingham bank to a bank account in his name in the Netherlands.
Lamas Puccio says that the case could grow complicated for the prosecutor if the decision is made to charge van der Sloot with aggravated robbery. "This involves speculating about motive. It is more difficult to demonstrate," he says.

Re: Stephany Flores -- Found Deceased 5/30/10 UPDATE: Joran van der Sloot Confesses!!
It appears he will get a lighter sentence for what the Peruvian law calls "Honest Confession"
Peru: Van der Sloot pleads guilty to Stephany Flores' murder
BREAKING NEWS! | 7 June, 2010 [ 23:59 ]
Joran van der Sloot admitted he killed Stephany Flores (21), because she allegedly used his laptop to look for information regarding who he was, according to a high-rank Peruvian government official.
According to a report aired by local TV station news hour America Noticias, van der Sloot said that his anger exploded after she used his laptop without his permission to perform an internet search, and thus learned about Natalee Holloway's case.
“I didn't mean to. She intruded into my private life,” said van der Sloot. “She had no right... I approached to her, she was scared, we quarreled and she tried to run away. I grabbed her by the neck and hit her...” he continued.
They had arrived to the TAC hotel after 5 a.m. At 8:10 a.m. he went to buy coffee at a convenience store nearby and when he came back to the bedroom, found Stephany reading about his background on his laptop.
This confession provides grounds to accuse van der Sloot of homicide instead of aggravated robbery or aggravated murder, which have longer prison penalties.
According to the Peruvian criminal defense attorney Mario Amoretti, van der Sloot could be seeking the benefits of what Peruvian laws call “Honest Confession,” since the Peruvian justice system often issues a lighter sentence in cases where the suspect confesses.
In that case, he would be sentenced to between six and 20 years of prison,
“However, he still has to prove that Flores actually used his computer during that time,” pointed out Amoretti to El Comercio.
Van der Sloot could be formally charged tomorrow June 8th, and may be held at one of three prisons: Castro Castro, Piedras Gordas or Lurigancho.

Makes no sense to me. Apparently, Peru does not carry life or death sentences. I still think he will suffer greatly in prison, there will also be a bounty on his head. He paved his own way to hell. Is he lying? Quite possibly because he is a liar. I still have to wonder why Stephany went back to his room with him.

He failed to mention a weapon. And he will have a hard time with an 'honest confession' if she was drugged or her fingerprints aren't on his laptop. Also- he ran. The police don't like having to chase people. It kind of ticks em off. kh

He's lying again... His story of killing her because she pried into his private life doesn't explain why she was partially unclothed... And I'm in agreement w/ you kh that time will tell if her prints are on his computer... AND in order to believe his "confession" I also have to believe that this just coincidentally happened 5 yrs to the DAY from Natalee's disappearance - that is TOO much!! He is a predator - he literally got away w/ murder in Aruba and he thinks that he is above the law - so he tried to do it again.
AJ has an excellent point too that I thought of as soon as I heard that Joran was involved in this case as well - how many MORE victims are there? We know that he spent alot of time in Thailand where he was selling young women into the sex industry - but also the Netherlands - and other places as well. He's quite the world traveller - I think these other countries would be wise to look into any unsolved murders of young women during the times that he was in their country...
I hope the US doesn't try to extradite him here - I think he deserves to spend every day in an a Peruvian prison where i've read the conditions are horrible. He shouldn't have the luxury to be jailed in an American jail where our prisoners are treated better than most citizens...

I don't believe Stefany used Joran's computer. She looked too zombie-ish going into his room to have been coherent enough to even be interested in getting on line.
I wouldn't doubt though that Joran may have opened it up to show her something about Natalee's case so he could then tell her....And now it's going to happen to you!...I don't think he'd be saying his laptop was accessed during the time Stefany was there unless it was. He'd know at least that much would be easily refuted. He's just trying to lay it on Stefany to keep from admitting he killed her as an anniversary statement.
But like someone else pointed out, he might have even just used it to look up info about his latest extortion attempt AFTER he'd already killed Stefany.
Interestingly though, Stefany's brother said on TV that Stefany gave her life for Natalee Holloway. That might suggest Stefany went with Joran in order to drag something out of him about his involvement with Natalee...hard to tell what he may have told her at the Casino that might have sparked her interest...but I'm not sure I believe she'd go off with him if she thought he was a murderer....but then again, maybe she believed he didn't have anything to do with it.
At any rate, this is going to be an interested few months!

Who here thinks he'll reenact the way the evidence shows? I don't. He'll do it all wrong hoping to prove he didn't do it.

I suspect Stephany did use the computer... not for the same reason that he says though...
I suspect LE found her prints on his laptop and he ran with her prints being there...
Either way, even if her prints arent there... he cud say that he wiped them clean.... I dont believe one word of it anyway...
Even though a lighter sentence is expected with a confession, I dont he will be extended any mercy... Luckily, Stephany's family is affluent....
I also suspect that the US will file their charges (incase there is a statute of limitations on the charge) then they will wait wait out his sentence, and extradict him only if he will ever be released...
I dont think he will have his freedom again.. not in this lifetime!

I'm sorry another young woman was lost to a violent death. He should have been behind bars and she would have still been alive. On the other hand, her brother is correct...Stephany is now more or less a vessel for justice for Natalee as well.

I wonder how many times this confession will change? Is he hoping for another get out of jail free card based on "fantasies"?

Re: Stephany Flores -- Found Deceased 5/30/10 UPDATE: Joran van der Sloot Confesses!!
I'm confused..... in some reports, they are saying there are no death of life sentences in Peru. Some say if a murderer confesses, they could get between 6 and 20 years. I also heard a report that said he could get between 15 and 35 years.
Then from the Yahoo article:
If this report is correct, it seems to me the best thing to do would be to charge him with aggravated robbery and give him a life sentence. If he received even the maximum 35 years I have been reading about, at 22, he would be only 57 when he got out of prison..... assuming he couldn't get out early.
I say charge him with whatever gives him a life sentence. Obviously, he is a murderer, and would most likely murder again. No more families should have to deal with this kind of tragedy at the hands of Joran van der Sloot.
I also pray he will confess to the murder of Natalee and tell her family what happened, and where she is.
Then from the Yahoo article:
There is a possibility, however, that authorities could charge van der Sloot with aggravated robbery instead of murder. Aggravated robbery is used in cases when robbery is the motive, but the perpetrator kills the victim in the act. This crime carries a life sentence.

Dutch concern over van der Sloot 'show trial'
June 8, 2010 12:58 p.m. EDT
(CNN) -- Dutch media expressed concern Tuesday about the prospects of Joran van der Sloot getting a fair trial following his arrest in Peru over the death of a 21-year-old woman.
Peruvian authorities say that Van der Sloot has already confessed to killing Stephany Flores Ramirez and could be charged on Tuesday. If convicted of murder he could face up to 35 years in jail.
The case has attracted international attention because van der Sloot was twice arrested and released in connection with the disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba in 2005.
In a comment piece published on Tuesday morning before the alleged confession, Dutch newspaper Trouw warned that police and authorities in Peru were under "overwhelming pressure" from the media to condemn van der Sloot, as soon as possible, warning that his presumed guilt appeared to be a "foregone conclusion" which risked turning his case into a "show trial."
It also criticized the "openness" of the Peruvian police in placing van der Sloot in front of television cameras wearing a bulletproof vest, warning that it could compromise the case against the suspect.
"Showing the suspect as a trophy could seriously harm the investigation. It could influence witnesses before they are heard," said Trouw.
Trouw also criticized Dutch forensic psychology professor Corine de Ruiter who speculated in another Dutch newspaper, De Volkskrant, that van der Sloot displayed "all the major features of a classic psychopath."
De Ruiter has not met van der Sloot and told De Volkskrant her suggestion that he may have a psychopathic disorder was based on analysis of "books, images and interviews" concerning the case.
She cited an interview he gave on Dutch television in 2008 following which he threw a glass of wine into the face of crime reporter Peter R. de Vries.
Psychopathic personality disorder is a chronic mental illness also known as antisocial personality disorder. Those with the condition "typically have no regard for right and wrong" and may be prone to violent behavior, according to MayoClinic.com.
De Ruiter told the newspaper that typical psychopathic characteristics included a lack of empathy and guilt, manipulative tendencies, pathological lying and narcissism.
"Psychopaths have a certain flair. They have wit, and they can also be very charming and polite," de Ruiter said.
But Trouw, in the opinion piece published before van der Sloot's alleged confession, said: "What if he is still proven innocent? On closer inspection, the 22-year-old Dutchman is just a suspect in an 'ordinary' murder investigation. So he must be treated. Until the court has sentenced, after thorough deliberation."
That sentiment was echoed by the Web site of the English language Radio Netherlands Worldwide which voiced concerns about the amount of possible evidence which had already been made public.
It noted that van der Sloot was "already a well-known figure in the United States, the Netherlands and in Aruba."
"Generally, the Netherlands never interferes with legal processes in other countries, but there may well be reason to protest in this case," it said.
Radio Netherlands Worldwide said van der Sloot's alleged confession over the killing of Flores was a "surprise" as van der Sloot had previosly refused to say anything about his alleged involvement.
"For Peru, Joran van der Sloot is principally a matter of prestige," the Web site said. "His rights and privacy are secondary to the country's desire to show off to the world with its handling of the Stephany Flores murder case."

Jail security tightens for van der Sloot
Published: June 7, 2010 at 8:54 AM
LIMA, June 7 (UPI) -- Security surrounding Dutch homicide suspect Joran van der Sloot tightened after prison guards learned of a possible suicide attempt, Peruvian officials said.
Van der Sloot, 22, is charged in Lima with killing Stephany Flores Ramirez, 21, whose body was found in his hotel room last week. He also is a suspect in the 2005 disappearance and possible homicide of Natalee Holloway of Alabama who vanished while on a high school graduation trip to Aruba. He was captured in Chile and returned to Peru last week.
Homicide detectives in Lima said police searching the hotel room where Ramirez's body was found last week did not find money or jewelry they were told the victim had, Expresso reported Monday.
Criminal lawyer Julio Rodriguez said van der Sloot could face between 35 years to life in prison if convicted of Ramirez's death.

Re: Stephany Flores -- Found Deceased 5/30/10 UPDATE: Joran van der Sloot Confesses!!
Interesting........
2 Girls Missing in Colombia - Is there a Connection to Joran van der Sloot?
According to another Peru publication, 2 girls are missing in Colombia that were at the same casino Joran was in earlier in May.
(AND)
Joran Van der Sloot Confesses to Murder of Stephany Flores, Blames the Victim … “I did not want to do it, “The girl intruded into my private life.”
What a difference a country makes …
Joran Van der Sloot confesses to murder in Peru after three days on interrogationunder Peruvian police custody, after three days in Aruba, two innocent black security guards found themselves in jail trying to be railroaded by Aruban authorities in the death of Natalee Holloway.
Joran Van der Sloot confesses to the murder of 21 year old Stephany Flores in Peru; however, is Joran’s confession the full truth? It would seem doubtful. We have no doubt that Anita’s “delicious sporter” did not kill Stephany Flores as he did Natalee Holloway in Aruba in 2005, but Van der Sloots reason as to why he killed the 21 year old Peruvian girl sounds a bit suspect.
Peru’s chief police spokesman, Col. Abel Gamarra, told The Associated Press that Van der Slootadmitted under police questioning Monday that he killed 21-year-old Stephany Flores on May 30.
The broadcaster America Television reported that Van der Sloot killed Flores in a rage after learning she had looked up information about his past on his laptop. The broadcaster said it had access to details of the confession but did not cite its source.
The reasoning being why Joran Van der Sloot murdered Flores sounds rather far fetched. It sounds more like confesses to a lesser offence. Peru, do not fall into the Van der Sloot trap. Prosecute this murderer to the fullest extent of the law and provide justice for an innocent Peruvian girl.
21 year old Stephany Flores was found severely beaten to death and her neck broken. Why, because she dared look at his lap top … are you joking? Van der Sloor is claimed to have said in his confession, “I did not want to do it,” La Republica quoted him as saying, “The girl intruded into my private life.”
Flores, a business student, was found beaten to death, her neck broken, in the 22-year-old Dutchman’s hotel room. Police said the two met playing poker at a casino.
To the end Joran Van der Sloot play the victim … so what was his confession, the victim, Stephany Flores, made me do it! She dare look at my lap top and invade my personal life. Makes us all wonder what was really on the laptop doesn’t it that could be so damning.
Ok Joran Van der Sloot, RIDDLE ME THIS BATMAN …if you killed Stephany Flores because she looked at your laptop, why did you rob her of her gambling winnings from the night before? Why did you pummel her to death and break her neck? As reported at Nancy Grace, Ms Flores was beat to a bloody pulp … all over looking at his lap top? That hardly seems plausible, but if so, imagine what would have occurred if Natalee Holloway said “NO”.
GRACE: Let`s go through what we know so far about the autopsy report. If you don`t mind, Dana (ph), let`s put up our autopsy body, what we know about Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramirez`s injuries. We see — at the top — let`s take it from head to toe — dark red bruising on the face. That would be her left cheek, just beside the nose. Scratches along the chin. Broken neck. Scratches on the chin — that`s extremely interesting to me. That says to me that she was thrown to the floor and that she was scratched, possibly by carpet. Also, it could reveal that she was grabbed around the neck and that she was scratching at Joran Van Der Sloot`s hands and scratched her own neck. It could also be Van Der Sloot`s fingers on her chin as he grabs her neck.
Let`s go down the body. Broken neck, blunt trauma to the torso. And as you see in this figure, that blunt trauma goes from just below the shoulders all the way down to the navel. Dark red bruising on the inside of her right elbow, the inside. What is that? Guarantee you that will end up to be thumbprints of her attacker grabbing her like this by the arms with such force, it leaves bruising on the inside of the elbow.
Put that diagram back up, please, Dana. As you can see, on her right arm, a circle on the dark red bruising. On the finger, her right index finger it looks like to me — no, forefinger — there is an open wound, likely sustained during a struggle. What does this say? This says she was fighting.
RIDDLE ME THIS BATMAN AGAIN … how does a girl get beaten to death like this at the time of the morning Joran would have stated and no one heard her scream? If some one came back into a room and saw some one on their computer, the victim would have shouted and screamed for their life as Joran Van der Sloot killed them. It is more plausible that Van der Sloot killed her in her sleep and stole the money, went to get coffee to create a phony alibi.
Also, one more time BATMAN, RIDDLE ME THIS … did Stephany speek Dutch? How about read it? Joran Van der Sloots laptop had to be set to Dutch and ever thing in it was written in Dutch. So how exactly did she invade his personal life?
Once again we see Joran Van der Sloot blame the victim and play the victim himself. PERU … fry the SOB and charge him with the maximum. He is a predator, a killer and a liar … JUSTICE FOR STEPHANY & NATALEE.

Re: Stephany Flores -- Found Deceased 5/30/10 UPDATE: Joran van der Sloot Confesses!!
I hope they charge him with murder, robbery, sexual assault, and kidnapping (if they find date rape in her system) ...
Then they can get the best sentencing for all the convictions..

LIMA - The South American media following the reports about Joran van der Sloot in quick succession. In Colombia, the police now launched an investigation into the disappearance of two girls from the capital Bogota. Writes that the Peruvian newspaper El Comercio. The disappearance coincided with the stay of Joran van der Sloot in Bogota between 6 and May 14.
Van der Sloot is the newspaper on various security monitoring of the major casinos in town. The girls visited the same casinos. Van der Sloot who spent two days in hotels in the Colombian capital.
{this is translated from Spanish, that's why it reads kinda funny}

I sure hope they charge him with everything possible, this talk of possibly only 15 years is crazy.
He is blaming her in this confession. Has anyone heard if they took him back to the scene of the crime today as they had planned?

The Devil made him do it!!!! He is pure evil....I wonder how many others he has harmed??? and to think that if sentenced to the max he could only do 1/2 the time and get off with even less time for good behavior...I just hope the US can try him on the extortion charges after that...

2 girls missing from Columbia, from same time Joran was there?
I wonder if other countries he's been in start checking, how many girls they will find missing.
And how dare Aruba get mad about how Peru handled Joran! I'm so mad!
I was trying to give Anita some empathy a couple days ago too...but I'm very sure she'll be back with her 'delicious sporter' kind of crap in short order. I take back my empathy for her in advance of it.
Joran makes me ill to my stomach!
