Jury selection in the Casey Anthony case could be headed to Pinellas County, hints St. Petersburg newspaper and Tampa Bay TV station

CLEARWATER — On the eve of the start of the most high-profile case in Florida, a group of television trucks sat in the darkened parking lot of the Pinellas County Courthouse.

While no one is certain where the potential jury members will be chosen for the Casey Anthony case, several St. Petersburg, Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville media trucks filled the spots closest to the entrance of the criminal justice center.

A Pinellas County defense lawyer said the Anthony case has received almost as much coverage in the Tampa Bay area as it has in Orlando, and it's silly to select the jury there.

According to Google Maps, The Pinellas County courthouse is almost a two hour drive from Orlando which would be a lot longer than the hour that Judge Perry told everybody.

Absolutely confirmed...It's gonna happen in Pinellas...right down the block from me....Don't know if I'll make it to see Media Circus and Protesters, but sure it will make the news somewhere...I'll keep you posted...

Wow, Estee! That is your backyard! So Casey will be transported back and forth daily during jury selection, I assume...

I can't believe this day is finally here. It's amazing how Caylee's murder brought so many people together. I've made a lot friends following this case. Wish some of them were still here, or would come back around while we finally see the wheels of justice begin to turn.......

"The Wheels of Justice turn slowly but they grind exceedingly fine."

She's looking a little skeered this morning........I like seeing the officer or bailiff standing directly behind her. It's a whole new ballgame, Casey. This is it........welcome to your nightmare!

She is crying as Judge Perry is reading the charges...I believe it has finally hit home...She never thought this day would come, she expected her knight in shining armor and his side kick to have her freed by now...

I so agree, Estee. She's crying real tears, and this is just the first hour of proceedings. Her new mugshot is crazy looking - guess they booked her in Clearwater last night.
No money in her jail account there! I'm sure she's in a state of shock ~ now the truth is coming down!

I'm not sure if they will transport Casey daily or if she will be housed separately in the Pinellas County Jail...It is located behind the courthouse and should be able to accommodate her...Knowing Judge Perry's penchant for frugalness/frugality it would be less expensive to house her here than to do daily transport...

I am SO impressed with this Judge. He sure is crossing all his T's & dotting all his I's.

Boo Hoo...Not enough diversity for Bozo...

How they are going to get through 110 people today is beyond me. Mason keeps asking the same thing the judge does, if there's an obvious hardship, excuse them and move on to the next. They'll have more time later to ask religious, medical questions........geez.

I wonder when George and Cindy will show up. When they do, they will probably go put some $$ in Casey's Pinellas account for the week. Can't let the little princess go without, now can we!

She cried for a long time this morning. Wait until the trial starts if the judges first words touched a sore spot with her this morning!

Estee, looks like there is plenty of seating available today. That may change after today. You should go see a little part of history in the making, or justice I should say.

I'm really fed up with Mason...He either asks too many questions or objects when someone says they can't afford to miss that much work...At this rate they won't be able to go through 110 people today unless they work til midnight...Tomorrow will start up at 8:30AM...Bet they will still be doing initial screening tomorrow...

I think Judge Perry is finding it harder to find people to serve than he thought...We do have a lot of retirees that are financially set, but looks like they haven't been called yet for jury duty...gone thru 22 prospects so far...guess they will be able to go thru about 60 for a total for today...maybe more if Mason doesn't slow up the works...

Estee, another thing about a lot of the retirees in that area ~ they are registered to vote in their home state and not Florida. Employers make it very difficult for their employees to serve jury duty. They want you out of it any way possible. Especially the smaller employers, it's not right, but it's true. I highly doubt they'll get any young mothers either.

Piper, the Snowbirds have already flown the coop and should be back to their Northern locations by now...Had I been summoned I would be more than happy to have an all expences paid Orlando vacation...Dau#2 could move in and take care of Tweak...Shucks...$250 a week goes a long way at my place...Might even pay for my pre- cremation...

It sure doesn't seem like too many moms want to be away from their children to serve jury duty. I'm waiting for one of the mothers to say, "Unlike Casey Anthony I want to be with my child."

I agree, Sherry! Casey's probably thinking - all these people are just worried about jobs and their children! Just call a nanny and steal everyone you know blind........

Six to eight weeks is a long time to be sequestered out of town if you have a young family or care for an elderly parent. And employers don't make it easy either. I believe they will find a good jury though, it's just going to take a little time getting through those that have no choice but to ask to be excused.

One prospective juror is excused because he told Judge Perry he believed Casey to be guilty!

And now we have an issue with compound content list that belongs to FBI...JP said he doesn't plan to do this again, so Dr Vass might only be able to give his OPINION that the smell sure smelled like decomp to him...

Its definitely been a long day! I watched until about half way through, then got bored out of my mind. HLN is stating that they have gone through 50% of the people called for duty. They may have to call in more people.

JVM is also stating that Cindy was turned down by her trying to visit KC in jail on Saturday.

It's also being said that KC just may testify too. Now THAT will be interesting.

Casey is accused of murdering her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony, putting the body in the trunk of her car, and then discarding it in a wooded area behind her home. Caylee was reported missing in the summer of 2008.

"We are about to begin jury selection in the case of the state against Casey Anthony," said Chief Judge Belvin Perry.

Casey sat with her attorneys at her side, wearing a mint green blouse, gray slacks and her hair pulled back into a ponytail. Her parents, George and Cindy Anthony, were not there.

Casey Judge Releases Potential Jurors, Talks Case Concerns

More Than Half Of Interviewed Potential Jurors Released For Hardship

Judge Belvin Perry is searching for 20 jurors in all, including alternates, which he will bring to Orange County for what's estimated to be a six- to eight-week trial.

Perry started the day by asking Anthony if she might try to cut a last-minute plea deal. She said she would not.

A majority of the more than 60 potential jurors who were questioned Monday were excused for various hardships, primarily financial.

I just love these women that say that they are the sole provider of their young children and they are trying to better themselves by working and going to school....They put their children FIRST...Soooo unlike Casey...If they were in a position to be on the jury I'd just bet they would say GUILTY....

I agree with both of you, I'm loving that. The one woman that was excused this morning said she had a niece that "had a lot of trouble" and this case reminded her of that. Then she said she had formed her opinion 3 years ago, Judge Perry asked and what is that opinion guilty or not. Loud and clear she answered ~ GUILTY! Camera was on Casey and she kind of winced.

I liked the man that said he ran 3 homes and handled foster care for abused and neglected children...Judge Perry made sure he emphasized it (I think he looked straight at Casey) when he dismissed him...If that didn't ruffle her feathers I don't know what would....

Vinny Politan was telling everyone the meal schedule for PCJ...More than likely they are giving her a "bag lunch" which consists of either a bologna or PBJ sandwich a piece of fruit, cookies, and something to drink...That's what Brian's friend said they gave him when he was on work duty and couldn't be in his cell pod for lunch...Since they eat early dinner they are probably holding Casey's dinner for her to eat when she returns from court...

I guess Judge Perry is gonna hafta read the charges to the new group of prospective jurors...Wonder if Casey is gonna cry today...

Well...doesn't look like it's gonna happen today...Let's listen to Bozo cry about the compounds instead...

Casey was sitting between her two female attorneys and farther from the courtroom camera. On Monday, Casey and lead attorney Jose Baez appeared to have words. It sounded as though Baez told her she was acting like a child, and then she tapped him.

Supposedly, there is a clip of this.....has anyone seen it?

Perry began Tuesday's proceedings in Pinellas County by calling people from the original panel of about 110 potential jurors brought in Monday. Perry got through that initial pool early in the afternoon and then brought in an additional 50 prospective jurors.

When 49 of them were called into the courtroom, Judge Perry asked them to raise their hands if any of them spoke about Casey Anthony in the jury room before being called in. Several raised their hands, but Judge Perry dismissed all of them.

Judge Perry then said 50 more prospective jurors will be brought in on Wednesday morning.

Those not dismissed because of anticipated hardships of serving jury duty for nearly two months will be brought back later this week for further questioning.

I must have missed this potential juror. Go Judge Perry!

That potential juror interviewed said 20 or 30 of them were saying they thought Casey was guilty. She said most of them didn't want anything to do with this case.

At the pace things are moving so far, I have to agree with all the experts interviewed in the media who keep saying jury selection is probably going to take a lot longer than a week.

Patricia Young, a St. Petersburg woman who says she simply showed up for jury duty when she was told to, is quite familiar with the Anthony case. She went to Orlando in 2008 to search for the body of 2-year-old Caylee.

She also filed assault charges against Casey's father, George, in September 2008 after he shoved her while she protested outside the Anthony home.
