Re: Casey Anthony Trial: Jury Selection
Young said she got involved in the search for Caylee almost immediately because she felt a personal connection. She too had a granddaughter named Caylee that passed away due to medical problems several years ago.
Snipped from Julie's link - it makes me angry as well to know that you have sick children fighting for their lives and then a mother can murder a perfectly healthy child and throw her away like trash. Then have the grandparents cover up and protect the murderer. I remember seeing her on the news when George shoved her, I recognized her picture immediately. Thanks for posting that Julie. Whoever would have thought she could have been a potential juror. This is one crazy case, I hope today goes better with jury selection. It could be another roomful of 50 people that also thinks she's guilty......

Boy, she can't handle hearing the charges against her! Crying again. She has bangs this morning and she's trying to hide behind them. She looks very guilty, just staring down and crying with those bangs hanging over her eyes. You can't hide from the truth, Casey!

I noticed that Casey was working herself up to cry when the new set of potential jurors showed up yesterday. She stopped as soon as HHJP dismissed them all.
Those bangs! Long enough to hide behind and play with!

The judge is supposed to question 40 more jurors before they stop tonight. Casey left the courtroom momentarily, looking like she was having a panic attack. Reality is finally setting in for her. She is back now and they have started again.

I saw her pointing out something about her hand to Ms. Sims. She looked quite pale as they took her out-2 bailiffs holding her.

7:09PM...Last potential juror dismissed...will reconvene at 8:30AM tomorrow morning...KC walked out spryly...She might have been having a hunger attack since they eat dinner early at the jail...Quite possibly been a circulation problem from her clenching her hands tightly or a nerve pinch...I'm certain she will be checked out thoroughly by the medics...

Jury Selection Crawls Along For Murder Trial
POSTED: 6:44 pm EDT May 12, 2011
UPDATED: 7:56 pm EDT May 12, 2011
CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Jury selection crawled along Thursday for the Casey Anthony murder trial, with the process moving along at only a tenth the pace that Judge Belvin Perry expected.
With only a handful of the 69 retained jurors interviewed, Perry may have to push back the trial's scheduled start or change his strategy to get the jury seated by Tuesday.
Thursday afternoon, Perry sent home most of the jurors he'd called back for more questioning today, promising to manage time better Friday.
"My apologies. If you want to blame anyone or be angry with anyone, I'm the one you need to be angry with," Perry told the group.

Casey Anthony: She will throw parents under bus, Brad Conway says
Caylee and Casey Anthony, George and Cindy Anthony, In Session, WFTV, WKMG — posted by halboedeker on May, 12 2011 1:03 PM
Jury selection slowed down today in the Casey Anthony case, and TV analysts seized on defense attorney Ann Finnell’s list of mitigating circumstances.
Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee. Finnell in her list cited sexual abuse, emotional abuse and being used as a pawn to cover up parental misconduct. WFTV-Channel 9’s Kathi Belich said, “Her lawyers say she was sexually, verbally and emotionally abused.”
On “In Session,” Jean Casarez said Finnell’s words were the most important part of the day. “I think we have it on the record where the defense may be going at least in the penalty phase,” Casarez said. “We believe they want to include this in the guilt phase, the first phase.”
Casarez said the speculation can end. “The defense is asserting these are facts, and these are facts relevant to this case,” Casarez said.
Attorney Brad Conway told “In Session” that he believed the defense team will “throw George and Cindy Anthony under the bus. They’re going to try and shift some of the blame to the family, and the only person who that can successfully do that is Casey Anthony.”

Defense Lists Reasons Why Casey Shouldn't Get Death
Posted: 6:17 am EDT May 12, 2011
Updated: 8:19 pm EDT May 12, 2011
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- The jury hasn't even been seated yet in Pinellas County, but already in court on Thursday, Casey Anthony's defense team revealed a list of reasons why Casey should not be put to death if she's found guilty.
Casey entered the courtroom on Thursday around 8:30am, wearing what appeared to be the same grey pants she's worn all week, along with a button-down yellow shirt. She had her hair pulled back in a bun. Once again, Cindy and George Anthony were not in attendance.

Some are calling this a bombshell on day four of the Casey Anthony trial. The other big topic is how long the questioning took for potential jurors Thursday.
There are 68 finalists for the jury. Attorneys started interviewing them early Thursday morning, and at about 4:30pm, they were only on the third one.
Late Thursday afternoon, Judge Perry sent 32 potential jurors home and asked them to come back on Friday, because the process was taking so long.
As jury selection dragged on, the defense revealed how they are planning to save Casey from the death penalty if she's convicted. The defense gave the list of reasons why she might have killed Caylee to Judge Belvin Perry, hoping to reveal them to prospective jurors.
"She was taught to project false appearance, she was used as a decoy or pawn by her parents and a scapegoat for parental misconduct," said defense attorney, Anne Finnell.
The defense said it's planning to blame Casey's family if she is convicted of murdering her daughter, Caylee.
The excuses they plan to use to convince the jury is Casey's lack of maturity, no impulse control, they said she has a history of sex abuse, insomnia, nightmares, no parental guidance or protection, verbal and emotional abuse as a child and poor coping skills.

Casey's defense attorneys exercised their right to a peremptory challenge of a potential juror for the first time since jury selection began five days ago.
The defense's target was Juror No. 1011, a rock 'n roll memorabilia collector who had worked as a groundskeeper for local colleges. The potential juror was arrested for a DUI in 2006 but had failed to mention the arrest on a jury form that asked about his criminal history.

I don't think it will start Tuesday. They only have 12 jurors so far, they need 20 total, and I believe they will be lucky get up to their magic number of 15 tomorrow to start swearing jurors in. Then once they are up to the magic number of 15, the state and defense will start back striking which will knock them back below the magic number.

Re: Casey Anthony Trial: Jury Selection
So far we have 12 jurors retained, 6 male and 6 female.
Juror 1340
White male. Has heard about the case, but hasn't researched it. Last time he recalls hearing about the case was when they were searching. Doesn't know who Baez or Mason are. Wife tells him he has no emotion. Most disturbing thing he heard about the case was the way the remains were disposed. For the death penalty in the right situation. Watches NCIS, used to watch CSI. Has had driver's license suspended. Involved in fight in college. Would tell somebody they were grossly obese if it was true.
Juror 1232
Male. Works for St. Pete Times. Married with four young children. Has heard of case. Would say yes to Bin Laden being put to death. Had friend murdered by Beltway Sniper in Maryland/DC area.
Juror 1129
Older male. Works in the insurance industry. Knows some specifics of case, smell in car, duct tape. Has seen pictures from case on Nancy Grace. Has read newspaper articles about the case. Doesn't recognize Baez or Mason. Knows Casey refused to see Cindy on Mother's Day this year. Thinks Casey might be guilty, but can put aside any bias. Not for death penalty. Doesn't know if he's against it. Baez challenged because juror knows too much about the case.
Juror 1398
Older white woman. 2 kids and 3 grandchildren. Former nurse who has smelled dead bodies while getting them ready for morgue. Now a counselor. Has heard of case, but hasn't followed it closely. Values life.
Juror 1312
Middle-aged female. Nurse. Believes in death penalty in certain circumstances.
Juror 1019
Male. Father of two young children. Works in information technology. Doesn't believe in the death penalty, but could vote for it if he really thought it needed to be done. Initially thought Casey was guilty, but wouldn't be able to judge her today without more facts.
Juror 1055
Female. Nurse. Knows nothing about the case, says her ignorance plays to her favor. 7 on scale of 1-10 in favor of death penalty.
Juror 1319
Black female. Hates TV news and has no friends. Watches cowboy and western films. Plays Farmville. Religious beliefs taught her not to judge people. Seemed to have trouble understanding some of the lawyer's questions. Never thought about death penalty before, but says she has no problem with LWOP and would have no problem recommending death if necessary. Would have no problem being on jury despite religious beliefs. State challenged because of her problems judging other people.
Juror 1407
22-year-old male. Studying to become a mechanic. Atheist. Doesn't like the media. 8 or 9 on scale of 1-10 for death penalty if warranted. Would consider mercy if no aggravating circumstances. Had legal problems in Tennessee because he had marijuana with him. Mom married to man in jail, uncle in jail. Baez challenged because of drug issues in Tennessee.
Juror 1251
Female. Has a daughter who is 29 and a granddaughter who is 2. Teaches gifted students. Has to wait for approval from school superintendent to get paid for more than 15 days of jury duty.
Juror 1429
Female. Mother of three and a grandmother. Has heard of the case. Has been arrested for DUI, but not convicted. Enjoys reading mysteries. She can consider both capital punishment and LWOP equally. She could consider mercy in this case.
Juror 1119
Male. Truck driver. Married with two daughters. Remembers some headlines and remember vehicle being involved. Thinks Casey is guilty, but can set aside opinion. 5 on scale of 1-10 regarding death penalty. Used to be eye for eye, but isn't sure since arriving for jury duty Monday. Serving on this jury seems like a long, daunting task.

I think Thursday is a very optimistic goal for opening statements. They retained four jurors Thursday, four Friday, and four Saturday. At four jurors per day being retained so far, it will take until Tuesday to get to 20. Then you have to take into account that once you get to Judge Perry's magic number of 15, the attorneys will probably use several of their strikes before the Judge can swear them in. I hope they still go with 8 alternates, because in my opinion it would be crazy to go with less going into a two month trial.

I think I heard it was going to start a week from Monday so as not to leave anything hanging on the weekend. BTW, I heard there will be court on Saturdays to get this trial done.

I believe Judge Perry told jurors he values their time, so court will be in session for half days on Saturdays.

ABC Action News just reported less than 10 hours to go til liftoff of Space Shuttle Endeavour and jury selection will resume at approximately the same time...Judge Perry to give jurors 1 day off prior to start of trial in Otown...That means trial definately will not be Tuesday...

Well, they'd better not delay the start of the trial too long or the 6-8 weeks will change to different times and all those jurors will have to be asked again by Team Baez if they have any vacation plans for the next 6-8 weeks.
