Re: Aliayah Lunsford -- Missing 9/24/11
Justice, I think we've been spoiled by the live coverage from some of the Orlando TV stations during the Anthony case/trial.
I guess when an event such as a missing child happens in a rural area, the nearby stations are not equipped like the TV stations in the larger metroplex areas.
I don't wish to criticize the WV media but I wish a TV station/newspaper in the state would send an investigative reporter to cover the story. Maybe CNN will send an investigative reporter to the area.
I've monitored this case off and on all day today and there have been no updates other than putting a new time stamp on a previous article.
It appears other main stream media sources in WV are using Associated Press or an article from an affiliated station.

RE: Press Conference today
A reporter from WDTV did an interview with the Sheriff and the guy who headed up the Presser yesterday. This was a one on one interview.
The feed did not come on promptly so I did not see it all. No significant new info. This is what I got from the interview:
LE not comfortable with discussing investigation in a public forum. (In other words - my words, will not release specific info about the investigation)
Wants to keep investigation as pure as possible.
Specific investigation details not being disclosed at this time.
Per the Sheriff, new flyers and posters were distributed within the community yesterday.
They have a strong volunteer force. At this time, no plea for additional volunteers.
Will not disclose areas where search(s) are taking place. If someone should come upon a search area, they will know because it is clearly marked.
WDTV reporter said they will have more info during the noon newscast.

FBI Special Agent Jon Hambrick wouldn't say Wednesday what her family members are telling investigators.

yw, Julie! It is very frustrating monitoring this case because of the lack of investigative reporters covering this case.
It is apparent that LE are keeping details of this case close to the vest.
Based on previous experience in following these type of cases, it is my personal opinion they do not think this is an abduction. If they thought it was an abduction, even though this case does not qualify for an amber alert, LE would ask the media to saturate the market with info and pics of Aliayah.
Not happening in this case.
In my opinion, I think something happened to Aliayah in the home. The mother's bizarre story of driving around for two hours looking for Aliayah and even running out of gas before calling LE send up huge red flags for me. Something hinky here! After searching inside the home, looking under beds, inside closets and searching the immediate outside area, Lena should have called 911; not drive around for 2 hours! This is a 3 year old child; not a teenager.
Initially, it was reported that Aliayah was there at 6:30 a.m. and at 9:30 was gone. Then it was reported that Aliayah was sick and the mom took the 9 year old from the bedroom and had the 9 year old go and sleep with her in her bed.
Wonder what will be added to the story today!
Maybe I should fly to WV and cover the story myself! lol

I notice that Aliayah's story is being picked up by the media at a national level. CNN reported about Aliayah the other day. I have also seen it on MSNBC. This article is from FOX.
Also, I notice media in various states are running articles about this case.

Authorities are searching for a missing 3-year-old West Virginia girl in what a national expert called an aggressive and extraordinary effort to find her.
Aliayah Lunsford disappeared from her home in Bendale, W.Va., Saturday morning, and hundreds of people have been helping local, state and federal authorities try to locate her.
FBI investigators have gone door to door. Dive teams have searched an underwater grid in the West Fork River. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, which listed the missing child as "endangered missing" on its website, dispatched a member of Team Adam, retired investigators who advise local officers.

WESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Authorities remained tightlipped Wednesday about their investigation into the disappearance of a 3-year-old Lewis County girl but said the search is continuing and focused.
Police and hundreds of volunteers have been looking for Aliayah Lunsford since she vanished from her Bendale home Saturday morning. To say she was driving around for two hours made me wonder if she was covering her butt in case someone saw her leave and come home after that length of time. Perhaps running out of gas blew her cover? IDK~
It is hinky.

We are now in day 5 of the search for missing 3 year old Aliayah Lunsford. Ever since Aliayah disappeared Saturday morning crews have been combing the area for signs of where she went or what happened to her.
The FBI and the Sheriff's Department held a third press conference at about 4:30 Wednesday. So far the FBI has said that they can't really talk about the investigative techniques they are using just yet, but they are very hopeful about finding young Aliayah.

WESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Five days and counting -- that's the last time anyone saw Aliayah Lunsford.
The 3-year-old girl disappeared Saturday morning from her home. But, with each passing day, the search and the investigation get a little more mysterious.
“We have to look at it from all different angles -- missing/abduction," FBI Special Agent Mike Hambrick said. "The potential that it's a missing child, the potential that it's an abduction. We have to consider all of the possibilities.”
The search for Aliayah trudges into it's fifth day. The goal is the same -- to find the child. She's about 3 feet tall, weighs 30 pounds and has long brown hair and brown eyes.
But, the tone of this search has changed dramatically. Some of the search crews seen in the initial day or two of Aliayah's disappearance have been replaced by teams of FBI agents and specialized teams.

Aliayah Lunsford, 3, of Lewis County went missing Saturday morning. Officials say they have questioned everyone who interacted with Aliayah in the last week.

BENDALE -- UPDATE Wednesday Sept. 28 6:05 p.m.
Almost five days later and the Lunsford home in Lewis County is now a crime scene.
The home in which Aliayah Lunsford, 3, lived is where her mother said she was last seen wearing her purple pajamas.
But some question if it should've been turned into a crime scene much earlier and if police missed out on crucial evidence. The FBI, which took over the investigation Wednesday, doesn't think so.
"You can Monday morning quarterback almost any effort, but I would not make that statement," Special Agent John Hambrick said. Read more and view video:

Specialized Team Being Created To Help Find Missing Children
Reported by: Kallie Cart

WCHS - Charleston, WV
Reported: Sep. 28, 2011 6:42 PM EDT
Updated: Sep. 28, 2011 6:47 PM EDT
Charleston , Kanawha County , West Virginia
A little girl, just 3-years-old, is still missing in Lewis County. Missing children cases are a huge undertaking for law enforcement so a new specialized team is being created in West Virginia to help out, it's called the Child Abduction Response Team or CART.
There are plans and teams in place for other major emergencies, but not a specialized team to deal with a missing child and that's where CART comes in. Because in these missing children cases, time can be the difference between a child coming home safe or never coming home at all.

The Inter Mountain - Elkins, WV
The Federal Bureau of Investigations has joined in the search for 3-year-old Aliayah Lunsford missing since Saturday morning. The FBI will aid in a specialized search of approximately one quarter of a mile around the Dennison Street home in South Weston
According to Special Agent John Hambrick, there will be an extensive grid search of the area based on the missing child's age, air temperature and knowledge of the area.
"We want to make sure we hit every nook and cranny," Hambrick said.
The FBI also has introduced one of its mobile command centers to the search, which remains a search, Lewis County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Mike Posey said.
Posey described the search as a "rescue mission" and said that a body has to be discovered before it becomes a rescue situation.

We are now into day six of the search for a missing 3 year old girl from Lewis County. She has not been seen since Saturday. Crews are back out again Thursday trying to find her.
As of right now the FBI still has not released a lot of information. They say they will have some information at 2:00 p.m. The area outside Aliayah Lunsford's Dennison Street house is still being searched. Helicopters could be heard in the area for the first time today.

Aliayah Lunsford, 3, of Lewis County disappeared Saturday morning. The FBI is leading the investigation to find her.

BENDALE -- Denzil McHenry's home sits directly across from the Lunsford home on Dennison Street. But he remembers it usually being a quiet home.
"It's weird if you have five kids and you never see them out playing," he said.
But that's not the only question McHenry has regarding the family. McHenry said he was out loading his truck all Saturday morning, but never saw anything strange, despite what Lena Lunsford told police.

The disappearance of 3-year-old Aliayah Lunsford has turned the small town of Bendale upside down.
"Bendale has never had an incident like this before; hopefully never will again," says Jeanie Stutler, a Dennison Street resident.
The situation is bringing thousands to Dennison Street.
"The volunteers have been around our house, and actually, we've had authorities in our house, coming to speak with us and take statements. They're trying diligently to find her and get to the bottom of this situation," she says.

Wow. The neighbor, McHenry, never heard or saw anything from Aliyah's parents' home? Odd for considering a little one is missing. This isn't looking too good.

"We were on Facebook Saturday, and about an hour after that we were up here. I just thought it would take, you know, a couple minutes to find her," said Margaret Blake.

Aliayah Lunsford Still Missing on Day 7

Aliayah, 3, went missing Saturday morning. The FBI is leading the search and investigation to find her.

WESTON -- Seven days have gone by without locating Aliayah Lunsford, 3. And with the Friday weather cool-down, the search is turning desperate.
"That's a long time for a child to survive in this kind of environment without food, water and shelter and exposed to the elements," FBI Special Agent Jeff Killeen said.
Volunteer search and rescue crews and K-9 units re-combed the West Fork River and its banks Friday. The FBI said law enforcement is surveying the area separately, looking for any clues or evidence.
But the question of what happened to Aliayah remains and the possibility of eventual charges is becoming more probable.

Something just didn't sound right about this, and I feel sorry for that sad-looking little girl. Too bad she was sort of lost in the middle of all those kids and then more on the way. I don't really believe that this child got out of that house, unnoticed, and made her way to the river, shoeless. Sick too, according to her mother.
Sounds too familiar - like another little guy still missing from a home, shoeless, and no trace.

Why No Reward In Missing 3 Year Old?
By Peter Hyatt, Statement Analysis
Saturday, October 1, 2011
3 year old Aliayah Lunsford was reported missing last Saturday.
Immediately when her mother spoke, her short statement caused us alarm. "We want her home" she said, though she was not speaking with her husband, nor the baby's father? The video showed the mother shaking her head "no" while averting her eyes off to the side. Although not body language experts, this jumped out at us immediately. Although the case was highlighted on HLN, no one from the family appeared on the show.
We learned that the mother was previously incarcerated.
We thought of neglect (bottle rot) when we learned that the 3 year old was missing 4 teeth.
We have heard rumors from locals about drugs, violence and Child Protective Services involved, possibly removing the other children. When the mother gives birth, including Aliayah, it will be her 7th child while she is yet 28 years old indicating heavy child care responsibility as a stressor.
Where is Aliayah?

Weeklong search becomes even more dire as temps drop
October 1, 2011
By John Clise
It's been a week since 3-year-old Aliayah Lunsford was reported missing from her Dennison Street home in the Bendale area of south Weston, and on Friday the Federal Bureau of Investigation re-emphasized its plea to the public for information.
"If anyone has any information about this little girl, please call 911 immediately," FBI Special Agent Jeff Killeen said at a Friday press conference conducted at the lower parking lot of Lewis County High School. "Time is a factor. The weather is changing. Seven days with no food, water and shelter is a long time.

UPDATE 10/01/11 @ 12:15 a.m.
WESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An open investigation. That's how police describe the case of a missing three year old girl from Lewis County, West Virginia.
Day seven of the search, and volunteers remain hopeful they'll find her alive. The FBI says it's looking into all possibilities, including the chance that someone may have taken Aliayah from her home in an attempt to -- in their mind -- protect her.
"The message we have is one of hope," FBI Special Agent Jeff Killeen told reporters at the search zone near Weston. "We want to get this child back."

I'm so glad that the other children are taken from the home. Something isn't right about the mother's story, imo.

I just made my WV media rounds, i.e., tv stations, newspapers.
There is nothing new to report. Perhaps WV media don't work on Sunday or maybe LE has not released any new info to the media.
None the less it is very frustrating following this case with very limited info from the media.
Where are you, Aliayah?

It would be nice if HLN would give this case more attention, but that's not likely with Casey's reaction tape being released and the Dr. Conrad Murray trial going on.
