A new search team is here and an additional reward is being offered for the immediate recovery of missing 3-year-old Aliayah Lunsford.

The extended family of the missing 3-year-old has been working to get the PPP Recovery group and Joe "The Bloodhound" Nick to the area for some time, and Monday their wishes came true.

Almost five months after Aliayah Lunsford was reported missing, PPP Recovery, a non-profit search and rescue team, is joining the search.

"We are not here for an investigation, we are here to locate a missing child. That's what we do. We're a search and rescue," says Hunter Glass, who is in charge of operations and compliance for PPP.

"We're retired law enforcement. We have no intention or any interest in anything other than one, finding that little girl. You can tell me to my face that 'here's where she's at' and I can find her and I don't know who you are so it doesn't matter," says PPP member Joe "The Bloodhound" Nick. He's been involved in looking for more than 250 fugitives and missing persons, he's only not found one.

At the request of Aliayah's extended family members, PPP has set up a local incident command center.

The volunteer searchers had to take a little break in their search for missing 3-year-old Aliayah Lunsford when it started snowing.The Patriot Outreach-PPP Recovery Program organizers allowed them back out after lunch when the weather broke.

Hi missjocool. In Erin Browne's email, she is looking for "families and close friends of people who have disappeared", so I don't think any of us can submit Aliayah's story.

What a surprise when I read this article! Lena Lunsford showed up at the command center. In my opinion, I think the real reason she showed up was to see if she could determine where the searchers were going to search. I would think she and Ralph Lunsford are real concerned about where the searches will take place! Just my opinion!

Those looking for missing 3-year-old Aliayah Lunsford got a welcomed surprise when Aliayah's mother showed up at the incident command center this morning.

Aliayah's extended family members tell us that Lena Lunsford showed up by herself at the Eagle's club early Thursday morning, all on her own will.

Hi Ann. When I first read the headline, I figured she showed up just to make it look like she cared, like she knew the reporters and photographers would be there, had to look like a concerned mother.

Julie, after almost 5 months, it is about time she showed up!

Unbelievable that if Lena was a concerned mother about her child, Aliayah, that she did not show up at other events sponsored by those in the community that care about Aliayah.

Lena could not even bother to show up at the many LE press conferences that have been held since Aliayah went missing. Thankfully, Aliayah's extended family, who cares enough about Aliayah, showed up.

At least somebody in her family cares.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - A lawyer for the mother of a missing 3-year-old says Lena Lunsford believes her daughter remains alive and prays every day for her return.

Aliayah (uh-LEE'-uh) Lunsford disappeared from her Lewis County home six months ago Saturday. There has been no sign of her since.

An article with more details. Lena Lunsford has been living with her mother since the judge in the federal case ordered Lena could not live with Ralph Lunsford. Per this article, Lena's mother died about two weeks ago.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The mother of a 3-year-old girl who vanished from her West Virginia home six months ago Saturday believes that her daughter is still alive and prays daily for her safe return, her attorney said Friday.

Lena Lunsford doesn't know what happened to daughter Aliayah or where she is, but Mike Woelfel said she refuses to give up hope and continues to cooperate with investigators.

"Lena is convinced that no blood relative of Aliayah knows what has happened to her. Nor was she involved in any way with her disappearance," he told The Associated Press.

Asked whether Lunsford believes a non-blood relative may have been involved, Woelfel said only, "She doesn't know what has happened to Aliayah."

The FBI held a press conference Thursday morning in Lewis County to mark six months since Aliayah Lunsford, 3, went missing.

A small crowd of community members were in attendance. Some said Aliayah's disappearance on September 24 has torn the Lewis County community apart.

"It's taken a really bad toll because everybody has put their lives on hold. Every body is concerned about this baby. When you have a missing baby and you have children or grand children the same age, every body comes together," Patricia Rager said.

For the first time in four months, authorities held a press conference about their investigation into missing three year old Aliayah Lunsford Thursday morning. That conference ended without any new information being given by authorities.

The press conference regarding the Aliayah Lunsford case ended around 10:15 Thursday. During the conference, authorities refused to answer questions regarding whether they think Aliayah is alive or dead.

Supervisory Agent John Hambrick wouldn't say during a news conference Thursday what investigators believe happened to Aliayah Lunsford or whether they think she's still alive. Hambrick also would not name a suspect, predict when an arrest might be made or offer any details about the ongoing investigation.

Lewis County woman faces May sentencing for welfare fraud

The mother of missing Lewis County three-year-old Aliayah Lunsford was sentenced Tuesday in Elkins to eight months in federal prison.

Lena Lunsford, 29, of Bendale, previously pleaded guilty to federal food stamp fraud. She sold her food stamp card.

U.S. Attorney Bill Ihlenfeld says the eight-month prison term is at the high end of the federal sentencing guidelines. He says U.S. District Judge John Bailey said anything less may not send the right message to Lunsford.

Maybe if Lena is confined in prison she might confide in some one as to where Aliayah can be found.

It just breaks my heart to know that after all of these months Aliayah is somewhere and more than likely has been exposed to the elements. Tragic like so many of the other children cases!

In my opinion, Lena Lunsford has most likely abused her food stamp card many times in the past. I'm glad she was caught, charged and sentenced. Not just a slap on the wrist. Those benefits are to feed your family, not to feed your own habits. I think she'll be another one to never give up any information. Whether she's protecting herself or someone else, who's to say. She's been imprisoned before, we'll see how 8 months in a federal pen works out for her. I feel the same as you that little Aliayah is no longer with us and was more than likely thrown out like trash.

Missing girl's mom gets 8 months for welfare fraud

ELKINS, W.Va. -- A federal judge on Tuesday ordered the mother of a 3-year-old girl who vanished eight months ago this week to spend eight months behind bars for welfare fraud.

U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey ruled that Lena Lunsford must begin serving her sentence June 28. She'll also serve one year of probation and must repay the U.S. Department of Agriculture $522.82.

FBI Supervisory Senior Agent John Hambrick said they're still working with state police every day, going over leads and tips that are coming into the West Virginia Intelligence Fusion Center.

Hambrick believes the answer is still out in the community and he wants anyone with any information to call the Fusion Center at 304-558-6592.
