America has Jerry Sandusky. Britain has Jimmy Savile.

Sandusky you know; the predatory Penn State football coach was sentenced last week to spend his remaining years in prison for raping boys who looked up to him. Savile you may have missed; a venerable British TV personality who died last year, he is now at the center of a posthumous scandal unspooling in London. His appetites ran mostly to adolescent girls, but otherwise the parallels are striking. In both cases, the story is not just one of individual villainy but of the failure of a trusted institution, if not a flaw in the wider culture.

I am echoing the sentiments of everyone here. I am appalled at the Sandusky family.

I think that this part of his statement is what infuriates me the most... "A young man who was dramatic a veteran accuser, and always sought attention, started everything. He was joined by a well-orchestrated effort of the media, investigators, the system, Penn State, psychologists, civil attorneys and other accusers. " How dare he turn this on the victim.

I did work with youths who were in care.... and yes some of them made allegations that we untrue, and made the same allegations in every facility. But the Sandusky situation was investigated and it was not just one troubled youth that made the allegations. He is truly a POS!

I wish that somehow he could get a clue and then have to be able to look into the mirror and know that he was the person who victimized not only the young boys but all of the people who have been hurt by this. Including the young men who have been robbed of the championship games that were won and identify the years they played for PENN state.

OMG as if he see's himself as the victim. Next thing we know he will be claiming those young men lured him and that they should be the ones on trial not him. It was all their fault. He is delusional about his role in this mess!

I can't seem to stop shaking my head at the absolute lunacy of his statement.

Sandusky asks judge to overturn abuse convictions

BELLEFONTE, Pa. — Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky asked a judge on Thursday to overturn his child sexual abuse convictions and grant him a new trial, claiming his lawyers lacked sufficient time to prepare and the statute of limitations for some charges had expired.

Sandusky's lawyers made the filing at the courthouse in Bellefonte where he was sentenced two weeks ago to 30 to 60 years in prison after being convicted of abusing 10 boys, some on Penn State's campus in State College.

"The defendant submits the court's sentence was excessive and tantamount ... to a life sentence, which the defendant submits is in violation of his rights," they wrote.

The 31-page set of motions, technically not appeals because they were filed with the trial judge, cover a wide range of assertions, including insufficient evidence, improper use of hearsay testimony and improper rulings from the bench.

CAMP HILL, Pa. - Jerry Sandusky became a state prison inmate Tuesday with his transfer out of the Centre County jail, his home since he was convicted in June of child molestation.

The 68-year-old former Penn State assistant coach arrived early in the morning at the State Correctional Institute at Camp Hill, just outside Harrisburg, a state prison system spokeswoman said.

He faces testing and evaluation that will take a week or more before he can be assigned a security risk level and sent to one of the state facilities as his “home” prison. At Camp Hill, experts will assess his mental state, physical health and education level, and determine whether he needs treatment.

ANNOUNCEMENT EXPECTED TODAY ON CHARGES FOR former PENN State President: Graham Spanier

Pennsylvania's attorney general is expected to announce Thursday that former Penn State President Graham Spanier is being charged in connection with the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse case, a source close to the investigation confirmed to CBS News' Pat Milton.

Attorney General Linda Kelly is expected to announce that a state grand jury is recommending that Spanier be charged with perjury and obstruction of justice stemming from the child sex abuse investigation.

HARRISBURG – Attorney General Linda Kelly and Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan today announced that criminal charges have been filed against former Penn State University President Graham Spanier, who is accused of conspiring with other top university officials to conceal information about suspected child abuse involving Jerry Sandusky, along with obstructing the criminal investigation into this case, perjury before a grand jury, endangering the welfare of children and other related crimes.

New criminal charges have also been filed against former University Senior Vice President for Finance and Business Gary Schultz and former Penn State Athletic Director Timothy Curley.

Jerry Sandusky transferred to state prison in Greene County

Corrections Department spokeswoman Susan McNaughton said Sandusky will spend 22 to 23 hours a day in his cell, and when he is out, he will have extra supervision and escort.



Sandusky will be allowed one hour of exercise a day and showers three times a week. Sandusky can have a TV, radio and other personal property with permission from the prison.

Meals will be served in his cell, as are other prison services like counseling, religion and medication.

He is allowed visitors, but they will be no-contact visits.

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The "conspiracy of silence" that protected Jerry Sandusky extended all the way to the top at Penn State, prosecutors said Thursday as they charged former university President Graham Spanier with hushing up child sexual abuse allegations against the former assistant football coach.

Prosecutors also added counts against two of Spanier's former underlings, Tim Curley and Gary Schultz, who were already charged with lying to a grand jury.

"This was not a mistake by these men. This was not an oversight. It was not misjudgment on their part," said state Attorney General Linda Kelly. "This was a conspiracy of silence by top officials to actively conceal the truth."

Spanier's lawyers issued a statement that asserted his innocence and described the new charges as an attempt by Gov. Tom Corbett to divert attention from the three-year investigation that began under his watch as attorney general.

State Superior Court grants Jerry Sandusky defense team extension to file appeal

The state Superior Court granted an extension Monday for Jerry Sandusky’s defense attorneys, who missed a deadline last month to file an appeal in the case. In its ruling, the court gave defense attorney Karl Rominger until Dec. 26 to file a brief explaining his appeal of a protective order the trial judge imposed in June.

Rather lengthy but these are the main points I find to be of interest:

Defense maintains the volume of docs as well as privacy laws prohibiting third party copying was timely and tedious;

Attorneys for former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky will be permitted to offer testimony on how a judge's denial of requests for a trial delay hurt Sandusky's defense during initial appeals arguments next month.

Judge John Cleland granted the request in a one-page order issued this afternoon.

Penn State Sanctions Prompt Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett To Sue NCAA

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Gov. Tom Corbett said Tuesday he plans to sue the NCAA in federal court over stiff sanctions imposed against Penn State University in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal.

The Republican governor scheduled a Wednesday news conference on the Penn State campus in State College to announce the filing in U.S. District Court in Harrisburg.

A person associated with the university and knowledgeable about the matter, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the lawsuit had not been filed, told The Associated Press that it is an antitrust action.

Penn State sues insurance company over Jerry Sandusky-related claims

Penn State alleges in a new lawsuit that its insurance carrier has not been honoring its legal obligation to cover claims related to sexual misconduct by former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.

The university said in the 18-page complaint filed in Bellefonte on Tuesday that it has been sued or contacted by 29 claimants but that the Pennsylvania Manufacturers' Association Insurance Company has not provided coverage.

The lawsuit alleges breach of contract and bad faith, and seeks damages and costs.

The article in The Legal Intelligencer, built on interviews with several anonymous sources, reiterates many of the main points that prosecutors and Gov. Tom Corbett have previously made to explain the pacing of the Sandusky case.

But it represents the first time that anyone on the prosecution side has spoken so bluntly - albeit without being identified on the record - about the operational distance between their work and then-Attorney General Corbett's oversight of the politically explosive probe.

Attorneys for Jerry Sandusky outlined plans for future appeals of his child sex abuse conviction in a court document filed Monday.

The statement filed in Centre County court lists seven grounds for appeal that the former Penn State assistant coach will pursue through appellate courts.

Defense attorney Norris Gelman wrote that trial Judge John Cleland erred in not allowing Sandusky’s attorneys more time to prepare his defense, violating due process by interfering with Sandusky’s right to counsel.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Penn State has released a document detailing its agreement with former FBI director Louis Freeh to investigate the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal, a review that cost the school about $8.1 million.

Penn State's total costs associated with the scandal topped $41 million as of the end of December, the university disclosed Monday, March 11, on a website.

Excerpts from an interview with Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State defensive coordinator who is quietly serving a lengthy sentence in a prison tucked away in Pennsylvania, will be shown on the “Today” show next week.

“He’ll describe in his own words what he says happened on the Penn State campus,” Matt Lauer said Friday of the clips, which will be broadcast Monday.

Sandusky, 69, was sentenced last October to 30-60 years in prison for his conviction on 45 counts of child sex abuse. He is expected to tell his side of the story, according to NBC, and discuss whistle blower Mike McQueary and Joe Paterno with John Ziegler, who, according to the Associated Press, is a documentary filmmaker working on “Framing Paterno,” a defense of the late Penn State coach.

Jerry Sandusky To Appear On NBC’s ‘Today’ On Monday As Part Of An Exclusive Interview

Jerry Sandusky, 69, convicted last year on 45 counts of child sex abuse, will appear on NBC’s “Today” on Monday, March 25. Sandusky’s interview with “Today” will be the first time he’s spoken to the media following his conviction.

According to the blog post announcing the interview, Sandusky will “describe what he says happened on the campus, and what he thinks of whistleblower Mike McQueary and late head coach Joe Paterno.”

The Sandusky interview was taped from jail by a documentary filmmaker, John Ziegler, who was making a film defending Joe Paterno, reports the Associated Press. Norris Gelman, Sandusky’s lawyer, said the interview excerpts that will air on “Today” were taken over the last few weeks by Ziegler, who interviewed Sandusky over the phone as well as in person at the prison, notes AP.

Threatens Victim #2 -- Talk To Me, Or I'll Out You



The man who interviewed Jerry Sandusky in prison has given Sandusky's victim #2 an ultimatum that arguably amounts to extortion ... give him an exclusive interview, or he'll go public with the victim's identity.

John Ziegler -- who interviewed Sandusky for a documentary he hopes will clear Joe Paterno's name -- announced yesterday he planned to reveal the identity of Sandusky's victim #2 because the man's biography is central to the Sandusky case.

Sandusky was convicted of raping the victim -- identified as "accuser #2" in court docs -- in a Penn State shower back in 2001 ... following testimony from former PSU assistant football coach Mike McQueary. Paterno was subsequently fired from PSU for not reporting the incident to his superiors.

But Ziegler came on TMZ Live yesterday, insisting Sandusky did NOT rape victim #2 ... and McQueary's testimony was bogus. Ziegler believes releasing victim #2's identity is crucial in order to clear Paterno's name.

Matt Lauer feels duped by NBC for Jerry Sandusky interview

Matt Lauer is anything but happy with NBC right now. The embattled today host is reportedly irate that he had to interview controversial filmmaker John Ziegler and anchor coverage of the Jerry Sandusky interview Monday morning. Lauer, who's seen his public approval plummet since Ann Curry's messy departure from the Today Show, apparently feels he was set up to be in the middle of a negative PR storm for giving Sandusky more publicity.

As expected, Today airing the interview turned into quite the PR disaster.

Ziegler is the man who actually did the interview with Jerry Sandusky as part of a documentary he made called The Framing of Joe Paterno.

It appears that Lauer felt the same as most of us; that interviewing Sandusky was a waste of time and a disservice to the victims. Via Radar Online:

I’ve watched John Ziegler from afar for a while now. As one of his Twitter followers (hey, follow back, dude!) I’ve seen him retweet every person that praises him and bully dissenters on a daily basis. I follow him because he’s a fantastic light attracting moths that refuse to bow to the evils of logic and admit that their demigod, Joe Paterno, was culpable to any degree in Jerry Sandusky’s sex crimes at Penn State.

It’s important to keep that stuff on your, the sane person’s radar—always have some idea what the lunatic fringe is doing in case it gets formidable. Ziegler has never been someone I’ve interacted with while he praised himself on social media mostly because I never considered him a serious factor in the Penn State discussion. He was always seemingly an opportunist who was taking advantage of a group of idiots.

Matt Sandusky, adopted son of Jerry Sandusky, files for name change for himself and family

Matt Sandusky, the son of convicted pedophile Jerry Sandusky, filed Tuesday in Centre County Court to have the names of him and his family changed.

Court documents filed with regard to the requested name change were sealed, but court records show Matt Sandusky filed for a name change along with his wife and four children. An order was also filed Wednesday granting a motion to waive publication requirements.

Just after the jury began deliberating dozens of counts of sexual abuse against his father last June, Matt Sandusky came forward through a statement released by his attorney, saying that he, too, was abused by his adoptive father Jerry Sandusky.

A Pennsylvania appeals court denied Jerry Sandusky’s request for a new trial on Wednesday. Sandusky, a former Penn State football assistant coach, is currently serving a 30-to-60-year prison term for the sexual abuse of 10 boys.

According to the Associated Press, Sandusky had argued for a new trial on the basis that his lawyers did not have enough time to prepare for the original 2012 trial, along with claims that the judge mishandled portions of the case and the prosecutor made improper references to Sandusky's decision not to testify.

The three-judge court panel came to a unanimous decision in rejecting Sandusky’s request.

In the response, prosecutors also said Spanier denied he discussed reporting the "horseplay" incident to police and that he had information of previous allegations against Sandusky involving children.

Spanier, former Athletic Director Tim Curley and retired Vice President Gary Schultz are being tried on charges of perjury, obstruction of justice, child endangerment, conspiracy and failure to report abuse in the scandal involving Sandusky. ..."

Freeh Subpoena Quashed In Sandusky Coverage Fight

A Pennsylvania state judge on Tuesday quashed a subpoena seeking to force former FBI Director Louis Freeh to testify in a coverage battle about his investigation of Pennsylvania’s handling of sexual abuse allegations against Jerry Sandusky, which resulted in a damning 2012 report.

Judge Gary S. Glazer granted Freeh's motion to reject the subpoena from Pennsylvania Manufacturers' Association Insurance Co. seeking his deposition testimony on the investigation. The judge's one-page order, which nixed the subpoena without prejudice, was not accompanied by an opinion.

James Vivenzio of Great Falls, Virginia, said in a lawsuit filed Monday that he waited eight months for Penn State to take action before going to police in January.

As a freshman pledge, he said, he was burned with cigarettes, force-fed buckets of liquor mixed with urine, vomit and hot sauce and made to guzzle alcohol as part of fraternity hazing rituals. He compared his experience at Kappa Delta Rho to being in "a gang" and said he feared someone would end up dead.

"I never intended to become a whistleblower," Vivenzio, now 21, said at a news conference in Philadelphia on Monday. "I was afraid somebody could die unless the abuse, the Facebook 2.0 site, and all that was going on, were shut down."

Penn State quickly denied the claims filed in the lawsuit, which named the school, the fraternity and others as defendants.

University officials said it offered "extraordinary assistance" to Vivenzio, including sending an investigator to his home after he left school....."

State Makes It Cheaper to Volunteer at Phoenixville Schools
New legislation reduces the cost of state background checks for child care volunteers.

"......In response to the Jerry Sandusky scandal in Penn State, the state government enacted 23 pieces of legislation in 2014, including Act 153. These changes significantly impacted the reporting, investigation, assessment, prosecution and judicial handling of child abuse and neglect cases. However, many parents and guardians complained about the prohibitive cost to participate at school functions and provide the schools with volunteer support.

According to Philly.com, a panel is also working on redefining which volunteers need to follow the background check standards of Act 153. The proposed bill passed by the House Children and Youth Committee requires the checks for volunteers and workers who interact regularly with children and are responsible for their well-being. The new definitions relax standards for lunchroom volunteers or a guest speaker.

Persons seeking employment for work with children and others required under the law will still be assessed fees for the clearances, but at a reduced cost of $8 each. FBI clearances are also required for all employees and for volunteers who have not been a continuous resident of the commonwealth for the last 10 years.

Kane to file motion next week to release porn emails

Kane is charged with allegedly leaking secret information from a 2009 grand jury to a reporter at The Philadelphia Daily News in an effort to get back at a former state prosecutor she believed passed information to The Philadelphia Inquirer about a sting operation she shut down.

Kane is trying to connect her charges to the scandal known as “Porngate” that brought down several other state leaders.

A citizen’s complaint filed with the state Supreme Court’s Disciplinary Board could set in motion a suspension of Kane’s law license that could force her out of office.

On Thursday, Montgomery County Judge William Carpenter, who oversees statewide grand juries in eastern Pennsylvania, responded to her claims. Accordingly, I will take no official action at this time.

Kane called the grand jury investigation and charges against her a “stealth political weapon” to discredit her after her office uncovered pornographic and explicit videos, images and jokes in hundreds of emails while examining how state prosecutors under her predecessors handled the child sex abuse case against former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.

“All I can tell you is her lawyers will act to vacate the court order”, Ardo said.

Karl E. Rominger, 42, misappropriated funds from a client's divorce settlement, among other criminal accusations, according to investigative documents filed against him.

Client's Trust Fund to try an do our best as members of the legal community under these very sad circumstances.. The Fund is under The Supreme Court of Pa. All Attorneys are mandated to pay annual assessments to the Disciplinary Board of Pennsylvania for lawyers. All attorney's practicing law in Pa. therefore help support financially The Client's Trust Fund. Lawyers who are convicted of fraudulently taking money from clients as part of their sentence are ordered to make restitution. However, it is certainly recognized that a convicted lawyer or one who accepts responsibility and pleads Guilty might not ever have the funds to pay back large amounts of money, or even smaller amounts of money.. So under this program, every lawyer is covered by the Trust Fund for a total of 1 million dollars. Each victtm is covered for $100,00.00. Then what ever the Fund pays out on behalf of the lawyer to the victim or victims, the lawyer owes the Trust Fund. So, in this case, if the final figure owed to clients is 1 million dollars or less, each victim could receive up to $100,00.00 dollars of their financial losses.This is for fraud cases. If the total amount is possibly 3 million dollars plus like in the case with the lawyer from Hummelstown, and that lawyer took his life, his Estate would be responsible for paying back victims. However, if no Estate, or not enough funds in that lawyer's Estate, The Fund steps in and according to the above amounts,will attempt to make victims as whole as they can under the million dollar coverage. If the amount of money owed has exceeded 1 million dollars,and the Fund has sufficient funds to do more, the Fund may petition the Pa. Supreme Court to go over that limit. I am aware certainly that the money alone does not pay victims for their tremendous pain and suffering,but hopefully it will be helpful. I think it is important to recognize that this kind of misappropriation of funds or ANY fraud against clients is very, very rare, but it does give a black mark to all of us in the legal profession. Every profession, business, or industry have their issues like this, All lawyers(99%) who work so hard for their clients, as they have given us their trust are shaken by the very few in our profession who have done wrong. Gambling Problem Causes Suicide


Cumberland, PA: (Mar-25-08) Raymond and Genevieve Diehl of South Middleton Township., brought a lawsuit against the former Carlisle law firm of Michael J. Hanft, alleging that the Cumberland County lawyer engaged in a gambling related fraud before he killed himself. The Diehls claimed that Hanft borrowed more than $600,000 from them under false pretenses, and then gambled it away. Their suit sought to recover the $600,000 as well as about $300,000 in interest. Records show that Hanft, 40, of Dickinson Township, was being investigated by the district attorney's office over the possible misuse of mortgage funds for gambling.

The investigation began after Hanft shot himself on Aug. 11, 2004, in his vehicle behind a Penn Township municipal building. The Diehls filed suit in Cumberland County Court a month after Hanft's suicide, stating that Hanft began borrowing money from them in 1997. They claimed he told them that he needed loans to buy property and pursue a construction project. Hanft actually spent that money at casinos, the couple said, and repaid only $10,000.

Sources stated that the two sides reached a settlement, which is not being disclosed due to a confidentiality clause. Hanft's widow, Susan, stated that she wasn't aware of the scam and learned of it only after Hanft's death. For the first time since he was convicted on child sex abuse charges, Jerry Sandusky returns to Bellefonte Thursday morning.

The former Penn State coach is requesting a new trial.

The hearing is not expected to bring the crowd that we saw at the trial three years ago, but media across the state, and even the national level, are expected to be in Bellefonte.

Sandusky's new legal team accused the court of prejudice because three former Penn State Administrators, awaiting trial on alleged cover-up charges, were not available to testify.

The trial for those men, Graham Spanier, Time Curley, and Gary Shultz, has still yet to happen.

"....HARRISBURG, Pa. (Reuters) - A lawyer for Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State coach convicted of child sex abuse, said on Friday he is considering his next step after a judge rejected his request for an investigation that he hoped would lead to a new trial for his client.

Judge John Cleland said he lacked jurisdiction over lawyer Alexander Lindsay's petition for a probe into how the Harrisburg Patriot-News newspaper obtained secret grand jury information in 2011 for its Pulitzer Prize-winning expose of Sandusky’s crimes.

Lindsay has argued in court papers that the grand jury leak to Patriot-News reporter Sara Ganim, now a correspondent for CNN, was a factor in what he said was a denial of due process to Sandusky and potential grounds for a new trial.

Cleland instead ruled on Thursday that Lindsay needed to petition Judge Norman Krumenauer, the current supervising judge of the statewide grand jury that investigated Sandusky.

"We'll make a decision next week," Lindsay told Reuters on Friday. "The judge gave us the option to pursue the information from Judge Krumenauer."

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The state must restore the $4,900-a-month pension of former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky that was taken away three years ago when he was sentenced to decades in prison on child molestation convictions, a court ordered Friday.

A Commonwealth Court panel ruled unanimously that the State Employees' Retirement Board wrongly concluded Sandusky was a Penn State employee when he committed the crimes that were the basis for the pension forfeiture.

Sandusky, 71, collected a $148,000 lump sum payment upon retirement in 1999 and began receiving monthly payments of $4,900.

The board stopped those payments in October 2012 on the day he was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison for sexually abusing 10 children. A jury found him guilty of 45 counts for offenses that ranged from grooming and fondling to violent sexual attacks. Some of the encounters happened inside university facilities.

The judges ordered the board to pay back interest and reinstated the pension retroactively, granting him about three years of makeup payments.
