Judge sets high bonds for sex ring suspects

More arrests expected in child sex ring

--MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Police said more arrests may be made in a a child sex abuse investigation that stretches through at least two counties.

On October 22, four suspects were charged by Mobile Police alone in connection with the investigation.

"We've found additional victims, and we have four suspects that have picked up 13 additional felonies," said Sgt. Chris Levy.

Mobile Police said there are multiple victims, all juveniles. Levy gave a few details of the investigation that has been going on since before May of 2012. The child sex ring investigation started in Baldwin County and quickly crossed over into Mobile County. Levy talked about the latest arrests.

"This deal, many people probably assume this was back when we made the last arrest but we're not finding that. We're finding more victims as we continue on," Levy said.

Mobile Police arrested Wendy Wood Holland, Mendy Kent, Dustin Kent, and charged William "Billy" Brownlee who was already in metro jail. Many of their family members and friends have been arrested as well.

--The Mobile County Sheriff's Office arrested James Cumbaa and have a warrant out for Nelton "Butch" Morgan.

11th person in alleged sex ring arrested

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) - An eleventh person has been arrested in connection to a child sex investigation that crosses several county and state lines.

Jennifer Gonzales Moore, 32, now joins a long list of sex abuse suspects after she was arrested by the Baldwin County Sheriffs Office for production of child pornography and second degree sex abuse.

Investigators would not elaborate on the evidence against Moore, who is from Magnolia Springs.

While FOX10 News has learned Moore is an active assistant with the local cub scouts, authorities said her charges stem from child victims connected to a sex ring investigation involving family and friends of missing mother Brittney Wood.

Jennifer Moore is the best friend of Wendy Wood Holland. Wendy is Brittney's biological aunt and the wife of Donald Holland, the alleged leader of the sex ring. WWH and Jennifer Moore are the two people who found Donald Holland with an alleged self inflicted gun wound. Donnie was not suppose to be around his children and had been staying in a home that friend Jennifer Moore owned in Styx River. The same place where uncle Donnie and Brittney went the night she disappeared.

MOBILE, Alabama -- Six defendants in what prosecutors allege is an inter-family ring involving children being "shared" for sex were in front of District Court Judge Jay York on Thursday for preliminary hearings.

The cases involving each of the six defendants, related by either blood or fellowship to missing Mobile woman Brittney Wood, were bound over to a grand jury by the judge during a proceeding that required two tables be placed together to accommodate all of the accused. The respective attorneys for William Brownlee, Dustin Kent, Mendy Kent, Wendy Holland, Nelton Morgan and James Cumbaa had to stand behind and beside them in the cramped space.

During testimony, investigators recounted the allegations of sex abuse from two underage victims -- one boy, one girl -- which involved individual and group acts between the children and the defendants. According to the testimony, the earliest of the alleged abuses came when the boy was as young as 7 and the girl as young as 9, and in cases of some defendants continued for several years.

MOBILE, Ala.-- Few details are available about a search warrant issued over the weekend at the home of missing Brittney Wood, a case that has intrigued many since she went missing in May of 2012.

Mobile police were unable to provide additional details regarding the search warrant as not to compromise the details of the investigation.

Looking at the allegations against the family members and I have to wonder...

Did any of this family attempt to molest Brittany's daughter?
Could they have taken her and Brittany went to demand the return of her daughter?
Could they have molested the child and Brittany threatened to turn them in ?

Could this be why Brittany "disappeared"?
She had moral conscience and a desire to protect her own child?

Freckles, that has been my sincere suspicion throughout this case. It would make sense, as Brittany's mother, who is admittedly probably not the cleanest slate in the schoolhouse, seems to be very genuine and candid about even the actions of her own family members in order to try to discover what has happened to Brittany. It makes me wonder if Brittany's mother, maybe not so much ignored, but wasn't emotionally able to see what was occurring until she observed danger to her granddaughter. It also makes me think that Brittany was NOT offered up for "sharing" as a child, since she was strong enough to try to pull her daughter away from it (if this scenario is what happened). That type of abuse tends to render young people emotionally weak and is why the abuse goes unchecked for so long. If this scenario is correct, and Brittany was not part of the horrific "sharing" between members of this family, then it would stand to reason that her mother might not have been able to comprehend what was taking place until the threat came to her own (one generation removed).

I don't know all the details, but this case gets more and more tangled as the arrests continue to be made. I hope so much that Brittany is alive and her child has not been abused, but I suspect that what happened is that she was propositioned to include her child in the ring of abuse, and being the protective mother she is described to be, refused. Either an argument ensued that resulted in her being killed in the heat of anger (which would fully explain the uncle realizing what he'd done and killing himself), or she threatened to expose the abuses and offer up evidence (since the other parents who could have testified, "yes, they actually asked me to be involved..." were actually a part of it and weren't likely to incriminate themselves) and he panicked and killed her...which also explains the reason he may have then recognized what he'd done and killed himself.

---MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - FOX10 News has uncovered exclusive new details in an alleged child sex ring involving family and friends of missing mother Brittney Wood.

Authorities executed a search warrant at the home of suspect Wendy Holland Thursday, November 14, after two of the eleven suspects confessed to seeing numerous child porn videos on Holland’s home computer.

--- The search warrant also says that Brittney’s uncle, Dustin Kent and family friend William Brownlee have admitted to seeing videos of several child victims engaging in sex acts.

It reads, “Donald Holland showed them videos on his computer of (the victim) and Brittney Wood, at various ages all under 13, engaging in sexual activity with different adults.”

Soprano1 - I wish you were correct in thinking Brittney was not a victim. Her mother Chessie had stated LE told her Britt was a victim. Until now all we had was Chessie's word. Now LE has indicated Britt was a victim. According to Brittney's stepmother, Brittney gave up custody of her daughter in August of 2011. I personally believe Brittney did this to protect her daughter. I had never considered the theory regarding her daughter. It is something I don't want to think about a 2 yo, it is too sick.

I had read of the g.mother, Chessie, stating she wanted Brittney back home because Brittney's dau needed her mother so much....That lead me to believe maybe Chessie had custody of the little one... and that gave me the shivers.

I dunno what happened. I speculate Brittaney confronted Donnie re the past abuse, perhaps of herself? She probably told him to never, ever approach her dau because she would bust him for what he had done to her ? and maybe others.  

This entire family is grossly sick.
It has trickled down from the aunts/uncles/mother to her own brother.
Anyone know what happened to her father? Is he one of the sickos?

I see; my mistake. That is so bad, for all of them. I just don't know what to make of it.

Wendy Wood Holland is accused of second-degree sodomy in Mobile County

MOBILE, Alabama – On the same day she was in court on sex-abuse charges, investigators with a search warrant took computer equipment that could contain pertinent evidence from Wendy Wood Holland’s home in Irvington, according to the Mobile Police Department.

Holland is the maternal aunt of missing mother Brittney Wood, and for the first time since Wood’s disappearance in May 2012, Mobile County investigators are saying the 20-year-old and sex-abuse charges against several of her family members and their friends are linked.

“They all have something to do with Brittany Wood, maybe not her disappearance but they’re all connected,” said Mobile County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lori Myles about the Mobile County cases. “It’s just constant.”

And the search warrant, as well as possible pornographic materials contained on them, could provide the first evidence of that connection between Wood and sex abuse.

According to a report by Fox10 News, the search warrant cites a child victim who said “numerous instances of sex abuse” were recorded by Wendy Holland and/or her husband, Donnie Holland, using “webcams, digital cameras, and cell phones.

Donnie Holland killed himself shortly after Brittney Wood went missing, and is thought to be the last person to see her.

Brittney's daughter is with the father Andy. They live with his grandparents. She has a very stable home and is well taken care of. Chessie does not have custody nor visitation. Brittney's father is not part of this sick group. Her father and stepmom are very much involved in searching for Brittney. Her stepmom is a verified insider at WS. June 2, 2012: A missing persons report for Wood is filed with the Mobile Police Department three days after she was last seen. June 6, 7, 2012: Baldwin County deputies search the area around Water World Road. A family spokesman says the last cell phone transmission from Wood's cell phone was in the Styx River area in Baldwin County.

June 8, 2012: "We don't have anything to lead us to believe that she's in Baldwin County," says Maj. Anthony Lowery, spokesman for the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office.

June 11, 2012: Wood's family announces the Klaas Kids Foundation will be assisting in searches for the missing Mobile mother. The Klaas Kids Foundation helps organize searches for missing children, working in conjunction with local law enforcement officials.

July 13, 2012: Brittney Wood's older brother, Derek Wood, is arrested and charged with rape, incest and sodomy. Derek Wood was described as Brittney Wood's "protector." Lowery said on July 16 that Derek Wood's arrest was not related to Brittney Wood's disappearance.

July 16, 2012: Kent is arrested and charged with rape, incest and sodomy in connection with another family member, Lowery said.

July 17, 2012: A fourth relative of Brittney Wood, step-cousin Donald "Paul" Holland Jr., is arrested and charged with rape, sexual abuse and incest. Lowery says the victims of Scott Wood, Kent, Derek Wood and Paul Holland were between the ages of 12 and 16. He reiterates that the arrests did not appear to be related to Brittney Wood's disappearance.

July 19, 2012: A $1,500 reward is offered by Brittney Wood's family for information leading to her recovery.

July 20, 2012: The gun used in Donnie Holland's suicide is reported to belong to Brittney Wood, however, Lowery has since denied the connection.

July 22, 2012: William "Billy" Brownlee -- a close family friend of Donnie Holland and his wife, Wendy -- is arrested in connection with the sex abuse investigation in Baldwin County. He is charged with sodomy and sexual abuse.

July 29, 2012: Brittney Wood's family question law enforcement officers' insistence that the teen's disappearance isn't connected to the sexual abuse investigation in Baldwin County or Donnie Holland's suicide.

Aug. 2, 2012: Kent is arrested on sex abuse charges again, but this time in Mobile County. He faces one count each of rape and sodomy. Mobile police got information on the Mobile County charges during their investigation into Brittney Wood's disappearance, according to MPD spokesman Cpl. Christopher Levy. However, Brittney Wood was not the victim in the case, Levy said.

Aug. 16, 2012: Derek Wood, Scott Holland and Brownlee appear in a Baldwin County Circuit Court for a hearing in their sex abuse charges. A BCSO sheriff's investigator testifies a girl told deputies in January 2011 -- when the girl was 12 years old -- that the three men had sex with her.

Aug. 22, 2012: Brittney Wood's aunt and Donnie Holland's wife, Wendy Wood Holland, is arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child in connection with the sex abuse charges against other family members and friends.

Oct. 12, 2012: Deputies with BCSO are on the lookout for Derek Wood, who ran from police and ditched his required ankle monitor after his bond was revoked in the sex abuse case.

Oct. 18, 2012: Derek Wood turns himself in to law enforcement officials. He has been held in the Baldwin County Corrections Center without bond ever since.

Oct. 22, 2012: A Mobile police officer testifies in a Mobile County District Court that a victim said she was 13 years old when her uncle, Kent, raped her while her father, Donnie Holland, watched.

Nov. 19, 2012: The Klaas Kids Foundation helps organize a 30-acre search in Tillmans Corner, looking for signs of Brittney Wood after Derek Wood fled BCSO in the area. However, nothing is found. Brad Dennis, national search director for KlassKids, could not specify what prompted the search but did say it stemmed from a tip from MPD.

Nov. 29, 2012: Wendy Holland arrives in court for the trial on her child endangerment charge. However, the trial is delayed and she is arrested on an additional charge of sodomy, one count of sex abuse and one of sexual torture.

Dec. 17, 2012: Chessie Wood, Brittney Wood's mother, and Dennis hold a press conference pleading with hunters to keep their eyes peeled for signs of Brittney Wood as Christmas approaches and hunting season continues.

Jan. 26, 2013: Brittney Wood's family holds a vigil for her and others reported missing in the Mobile area.

May 10, 2013: Dennis vowed Klaas Kids will be on the ground again should further information on the whereabouts of Brittney Wood be uncovered.

May 30, 2013: The one-year anniversary of the day Brittney Wood was last seen.

June 27, 2013: Wendy Holland is released on a reduced bond from Baldwin County Corrections Center. Chessie Wood is arrested, charged with child sex abuse and sodomy.

Oct. 8, 2013: Bayou La Batre police arrest Brownlee and two others unrelated to the sex abuse investigation after officers said they found Brownlee stealing several stainless steel pipes from a business. He was charged with first-degree criminal mischief and second-degree burglary.

Oct. 21, 2013: Mobile police arrest Brownlee's brother on an unrelated rape charge involving an underage girl.

Oct. 22, 2013: Mobile police, Saraland police and Mobile County deputies attempt to locate and arrest seven Wood-related suspects after a girl tells authorities she was sexually abused. New charges come down for Scott Wood, Wendy Holland, Brownlee and Kent. Authorities also charge 32-year-old James Cumbaa, who married in to the Wood family, 47-year-old Nelton "Butch" Morgan, a Wood family friend, and Wendy Holland's 33-year-old sister, Mendy Kent, on sodomy, sex abuse and other charges in relation to the ongoing investigation. All seven suspects, expect Morgan, were apprehended.

Brittney has 2 brothers, Derek and TJ. They have the same father as Brittney. As you know, Derek is currently in jail facing charges. Derek has said he was abused by this sex ring and taught to do things to others. TJ has said he was never sexually abused.

Chessie has two toddlers by Paul, the man she is currently with. IIRC, Chessie was pregnant with one of the toddlers when Britt was pregnant with Payton.

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Sources confirm to FOX10 News authorities are taking a second look at the apparent suicide of Donald Holland, Sr. He is the uncle and last person seen with Brittney Wood, who disappeared May 30, 2012.

Authorities are revisiting evidence to determine exactly how he died.

The news comes just days after letters to and from sex abuse suspect Wendy Holland surfaced, indicating that Brittney Wood may have known her life was in danger before she went missing.

In a letter obtained by FOX10 news apparently written to Donald’s wife, the sender writes “Brittney wrote a letter with a lot of evidence on it pertaining to Jennifer, her, you, Mendy, and (child victim). She said if anything happened to her to give it to the police.”

TJ is the youngest of the three. Both brothers were incarcerated at the time Brittney disappeared. Derek was in the local jail on unrelated charges and TJ was in some type of juvenile detention center.

All I can say is wow to the above news! I have always been suspicious of Donnie's suicide. He allegedly shot himself with Brittney's gun. It doesn't appear a thorough investigation was ever completed. He was a pedophile about to meet with authorities in a few hours. I believe LE took Wendy's word that it was a suicide. It doesn't appear GSR was ever tested. Donnie did not die right away. He was on life support for a few days. I personally don't believe he committed suicide. It was a 25 caliber handgun. Donnie had rifles he could have used, yet instead he used a gun with a known history of penetration problems. The 2 people who allegedly found him imo have motive, Wendy and Jennifer.

Brittney's case has always reminded me of Ali Lemmon. Ali never had a chance and I feel the same about Brittney. They were both surrounded by generational sin. Like Ali, Britt was also a victim before they became missing person cases. Britt was raped at age 9 by her grandmothers boyfriend. Grandma, who lives with Chessie, to this day sends money to the rapist in prison. There is something wrong with the whole picture, just wrong in so many ways! W/o going into great detail, in Britt's case there was significant evidence to prove she was telling the truth. The judge gave the SOB a life sentence.

Chessie, Randall, Mendy and Wendy are siblings. All have been charged with sexually abusing children. Others charged or accused are Dustin Kent, Mendy's husband. Donnie Holland, deceased, was Wendy's husband. Donnie Jr, Donnie Holland's son. Derek Wood, Britt's brother and 3 or 4 more family friends. Wendy's BFF Jennifer Moore, whose family owned the Styx River property. Jennifer's father, now deceased, as an interesting background. I think the total is now 12 if you include Donnie Holland. 4 victims, some as young as 3 yo.

In my opinion, Donnie was not the ring leader. I personally believe his wife Wendy controlled most of what happened. He may have introduced her to the deviance, but I believe a time came where she became the ring leader. It has been alleged in MSM the twins Wendy and Mendy had an incestious relationship with each other and their spouses. It appears the investigation began in February 2012 when Randall Wood went to LE to report the abuse. Randall was later one of the first arrested along with Dustin. LE reported one of them confessed. I believe it was Randall. I think he was playing CYA at the time he reported the abuse.

Since the letters to and from Wendy have surfaced, it seems all of these scums knew what was about to come. It also appears the letter was written on prison stationery. Some have concluded the letters were written to Wendy by her brother Randall while he was incarcerated. The letter was warning Wendy of a letter Brittney had written and given to someone for safe keeping. Wendy writes back in a letter basically saying Britt's handwriting cannot be analyzed. That is very eerie. It sounds as if she knows Brittney is dead.

Sorry for the long answer to your question. I personally don't believe Donnie agreed with killing Brittney. Hence the reason I believe he was murdered and did not commit suicide. I happen to agree with you, I believe the women in this case have a lot to lose. In my opinion Wendy and Jennifer have the most motive, along with Randall. I believe Wendy is the ring leader. Jennifer was/is a boy scout den leader. Randall has/had a military career and seems to be the most educated out of the bunch. Brittney was once a survivor who testified against her rapist only to be victimized again. I'm not sure Brittney knew others were being abused. Including her brother Derek. She may have believed she was protecting others until she received the Facebook message from another victim just days before she disappeared. This may have been when the storm hit.

I don't think Brittney was fortunate enough to escape the final "death wish" reach of this twisted family.  The numerous participating evil family members have made the reports on this sick bunch sound like a novel written for sexual thrills.  With the exception of Brittney's child and the child's father, have any of the victims managed to escape this madness to live normal lives? Evil isn't a strong enough word to depict these sub-humans. They belong locked up from society forever. I wouldn't believe a word spoken by Brittney's mother, who is playing CYA - and lie detector tests are not fool-proof. I think a practiced liar can beat these tests, especially if the questions are reviewed and approved by the subject beforehand.

Man charged in Wood family child sex investigation pleads guilty

BAY MINETTE, Alabama — A man whose family is suspected of having sex with underage relatives pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of second-degree rape and second-degree sodomy.

Dustin Kent, 38, of Mobile, will be sentenced Oct. 23 during a hearing before Circuit Court Judge Jody Bishop at the Baldwin County Courthouse in Bay Minette.

The charges Kent pleaded guilty to stemmed from him having sex with a girl who was between 12 and 16 years old, Assistant District Attorney Teresa Heinz said.

BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WALA) – Dustin Kent pleaded guilty to charges of rape and sodomy in a Baldwin County courtroom Thursday morning, July 31.

FOX10 News Reporter Kati Weis was in the courtroom for Kent’s hearing. Teresa Heinz with the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office told her this hearing resolved the sex charges Kent was facing in Baldwin County.

Kent entered a plea deal that allowed him to drop charges of incest by pleading guilty to rape in the second degree and sodomy in the second degree.

Now, Kent must face a judge for sentencing in October, where he could be sentenced for anywhere between two to 20 years in prison.

Snip- Beck said Thursday that his client will most likely file a similar plea deal in Mobile county, as he did in Baldwin County.

“At this point, we would anticipate that Mr. Kent would be doing the same thing in Mobile County as he’s done here today,” said Beck after the plea deal hearing at the Baldwin County Courthouse.

The prosecution said a plea deal is important, because by Kent pleading guilty, he is further protecting the victims he violated.

“By his actions, and taking responsibility, he is now not putting a child on the stand to have to tell her story,” said Heinz. “That is a critical component for us and any prosecution that we handle, is preventing any more trauma to our victims.”

I have a feeling Dustin Kent will cooperate because there are multiple victims, witnesses. However, I believe the prosecution is willing to offer plea deals to minimize the trauma the court cases could create for the victims. Derek Wood, Brittney's older brother has been released. He was originally denied YO status but in July the decision was overturned. Derek has alleged he was a victim turned perp. I believe the prosecution has several witnesses to the abuse this sick family perpetrated.

BAY MINETTE, Alabama -- A 12-member Baldwin County jury took about 20 minutes Thursday to convict an Eight Mile man of sexually abusing a girl who was offered up for sex by a relative.

William "Billy" Brownlee, 50, is one of 11 people who have been arrested in a child sex abuse investigation that started in 2012. Arrests have been made in Baldwin and Mobile counties. The men and women charged are relatives of missing Mobile County woman Brittney Wood or are friends of her family members.

Brownlee, 50, was found guilty of second-degree sodomy and second-degree sexual abuse. He was convicted of having sex with the girl when she was 12 or 13 years old.

The victim, now 16 years old, is a relative of Wood. Brownlee is a family friend.

BAY MINETTE, Ala. (AP) — A woman sentenced to 219 years in prison after being convicted as part of a group of relatives and friends who sexually abused children for years isn't saying whether she knows anything about the whereabouts of a victim whose disappearance helped break open the case.

Wendy Holland, 35, has repeatedly refused to discuss the May 2012 disappearance of 19-year-old Brittney Wood, a prosecutor said. She again refused before being sentenced to what amounts to a life term on charges including sex abuse on Thursday.

The refusal frustrates both family members and authorities trying to find Wood, who is Holland's niece. Holland and 10 other relatives and friends were arrested on multiple sex charges after the teen vanished.
