Casey Parsons, the adoptive mother of missing teenager Erica Lynn Parsons says the family is happy that Erica’s picture is posted in this week’s coupon circular.

Parsons said people seem to think Erica is dead and she hopes this posting will help them realize she’s missing.

Casey said she and husband, Sandy, have been pushing for Erica’s picture to be placed on billboards, coupon circulars and other places.

She said they contacted the Center for Missing and Exploited Children to see if Erica’s picture could be included in a circular.

A Post reporter has requested an interview with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Parsons also said she believes Erica is “out there” and said the reason she’s not come forward may have to do with her son James.

“Maybe being afraid of James,” Casey said.

There is new support among state legislators to tighten homeschooling laws.

Multiple witnesses spoke at a two-day hearing for Sandy and Casey Parsons, who were attempting to regain custody of their biological children.

The children, ages 7 and 9, were taken from the home when an investigation began into the disappearance of teenager Erica Parsons.

"If you are still out there – whether it be me, or whether it be somebody else – even if you're happy where you are, just please let somebody know that you're alive and that you're okay," Parsons said on Tuesday. Kilah's Law is officially on the books as of Sunday.

Search warrant in Erica Parsons case: Dogs alerted on “possible presence of human remains’

Cadaver dogs indicated the possible presence of human remains during searches in October and November at a building on the property of missing teen Erica Lynn Parsons’ adoptive grandfather, court documents say.

That information was part of an affidavit requesting another search warrant for the red storage building, which was owned and used by Sandy and Casey Parsons, Erica’s adoptive parents. The warrant was served Nov. 14 but not returned to the court until today.

During the Nov. 14 search, investigators took one board and a jacket, but nothing else, according to the warrant.

...In August, Rowan County Sheriff’s Office investigators, along with members of an FBI evidence response team, searched the storage building behind William Parsons’ home on Sutton Road and took baby teeth, a hammer, pieces of a vacuum and other items.

On Oct. 21, investigators returned with cadaver dogs, according to an affidavit. Three of four dogs alerted on the red storage building, “which is reported to be an indication of the possible presence for human remains,” the court papers said.

The warrant says a more detailed search was not conducted at that time. But on Nov. 6, a K-9 handler and a dog searched the area around the red storage building again. The dog alerted on the building twice, “which indicates the presence of human remains,” the affidavit said.

The biological mother of missing teenager Erica Lynn Parsons said she felt numb after hearing dogs detected the possible presence of human remains during two searches at a storage building in southern Rowan County.

Her worst fear, Carolyn Parsons said, is that Erica is not alive

“At the same time, if it is her, at least she’s not suffering anymore,” she said.

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

The two youngest children of Sandy and Casey Parsons have been removed from their custodial home and placed in the care of other family members.

Sources close to the situation have told WBTV that the children were removed after problems between adults in the home.

The two children, Sadie and Toby, had been living with an aunt following a judge's ruling, but their maternal grandparents were also living in the home.

WBTV has learned that the Department of Social Services removed the children after an incident over the weekend and they are currently with other family members.

Sadly, I don't think any amount of reward money is going to bring Erica home. Maybe the dispute will shake someone loose and then the truth can come out and charges laid!

Since they were ordered to produce Erica, and they haven't, I wonder why they haven't been thrown in jail for contempt of court.

It is a mystery to me why they haven't been charged with something… maybe LE thinks that if they think they are not suspected of anything then they will make mistakes or lead them to enough evidence… It makes me furious that so many seem to get away with having "disposable" children and are never caught. Sick… Sick... world!

The adoptive parents of Erica Parsons appeared before a federal judge on Wednesday afternoon, hours after they were arrested on dozens of fraud charges.

Casey and Sandy Parsons were arrested at their Fayetteville home on Wednesday morning around 6 a.m. by federal agents and charged with 76 counts of fraud-related crimes.

I hope they are held responsible for Erica missing and whatever they've done to her! I am glad however that they are being charged with these crimes for now. I read somewhere (I'm looking for the link) that the charges, if given max sentence on all charges, could add up to a looooooong time in prison. IMO it's a step in the right direction.

Wow/ Lot of charges. Glad to see some movement toward justice for this child. Can there be justice? Not really... Just forced accountability. I hope we may find her and bring her home...

Hearing: now more difficult for Parsons to win custody of youngest children

In court on Thursday there was a change in the custody plan, removing the option of reunification.

According to the North Carolina DHHS web site, reunification means the biological parents can petition the court to regain custody of the children.

After today, the plan for the Parsons removes that option and instead moved to a plan of guardianship, with the possibility that full legal custody could be awarded to other family members.

The judge set another review to take place in 90 days, unless other court actions overrule the need for such a hearing.

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Rowan County DSS officials told a family court judge Casey and Sandy Parsons continue to employ "deceptive practices" in their fight to regain custody of their two youngest children.

...In April, Eyewitness News received copies of two emails from the email address "a Hedgehog Place.” The emails claimed they were from a Rowan County DSS caseworker.

In the emails, the caseworker told Sandy Parsons that their daughter Sadie was being "physically mistreated" by her caregivers.

But when Channel 9 shared those emails with Rowan County DSS, an official told Channel 9 the emails were not valid, but "changed from their original content."

...In motions filed this week, the government lists dozens of subpoenas requesting documents and electronic records from several banks, medical institutions like the Stanly County Dental Clinic and Carolinas Healthcare, the Great Lakes Educational Corporation, phone companies like Sprint, and even the Cabarrus County Department of Social Services and the Rowan County Department of Social Services.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Casey Parsons pleaded guilty to fraud charges Wednesday morning, according to court documents.

Parsons pleaded guilty to 16 counts of federal fraud.

...Casey Parsons, 39, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the government; five counts of mail fraud; five counts of aiding in the preparation of a false tax return; four counts of wire fraud; and one count of aggravated identity theft.

Casey Parsons remains out of custody on pretrial release pending sentencing. The charges against her husband, Sandy, are still pending.

...Sentencing will be Feb. 10, 2015, in Winston-Salem federal court.
